So I reserved a 7+ 128 in Black, but it's 3 hours away which is fine with me. The only thing I'm afraid of is if I get there and they do not have the phone. If I got a reservation, is the phone confirmed to be in stock ?

Yes it should be! I've seen a few with issues but mostly yes

If I buy the plus at full price from an apple store AT&T will it work with other GSM networks? It says unlocked on the website!

Yes I'm using an ATT device with my T-Mobile carrier!!

OK, So, I just held a Verizon 7+ BLACK 128GB. I am a T-Mobile customer. While I have read I can buy outright, pop in the T-Mobile sim and get on with it, can I join the apple upgrade program with this phone but as a T-Mobile customer if I want to ?. If not I can buy in full, but I'd prefer to get on the upgrade program. There is clearly a shortfall of what I want in the NYC area on T-Mobile - Thanks in advance

Whatever carrier you have you have to enroll using their device... best bet is paying in full for the device and buying another carrier..

Hope Apple didn't catch on with the people using the IUP link to reserve iPhones that are not upgrading using the IUP. My 1st trip on Sunday was not so smooth, but still managed to walk out with a fully paid iPhone 7 Plus - 128GB - Black - Verizon. Hoping to reserve 1 more Plus model tonight at 12:01am when West Coast goes live and hope it goes smooth when I pick it up.

why does apple care if you use IUP link, or more importantly why not just have ONE link to reserve your phone without feeling like you are cheating the system by working around ways to pay them

The guy that handled my reservation told me the T-mobile iPhones where the only ones that were unlocked. Don't know how true that is, but I already been with Tmobile for years, so it wasn't like he was trying pulling a sales pitch. When I received my iPhone 7 plus, the T-mobile sim was already inside the box and and wrapped up. The sim was activated from the number on the back of the box. Plus they verify your carrier info (number and last 4 SS) before they even discuss payments. So I doubt your idea will work.

My verizon unit was unlocked and was able to use TMOBILE

See what happened to me was when I got there and they found out I was not part of the IUP they said the phone wasn't physically there (not in stock). What I realized is that it's up to the store to honor whether a phone is reserved or not.

It's easy for them to say that the phone isn't in stock because we can't go behind the showroom.

I think the best thing to do is before you go over what method of payment you'll be doing, ask to see the phone first. Keep your mouth shut regardless if you are IUP or not.

i would be absolutely livid if it were me. its like you are begging for them to accept your purchase.

Was it activated on Verizon first? If so, I guess they might be all unlocked.
it was never on verizion. It was purchased as a verizion 7+ unit. i unwapped the phone took out the vz SIM and threw it away, and put in my existing tmobile sim, and proceeded in setting up the iphone.

Not sure why Apple has it set up like this. But the issue arrives when you're about to buy the reserved iPhone in store and the only option that the Apple rep has on their device is to "Start trade-in" process since the iPhone is reserved using the IUP link. If the Apple employee is somewhat knowledgeable / experienced, they easily override that option when you tell them that you want to buy the iPhone in full or finance it using carrier financing. In my case on Sunday, I told the Apple employee that was helping me that I would like to purchase the iPhone in full and she said that I couldn't because I had to trade in an iPhone due to it being reserved on the IUP. I told her to ask the manager to help me and manager came and did their magic. They got the iPhone from the back, scanned it, paid for it in full, walked out happy.

Ugh that's what happened to me except the manager didn't do any magic

quick question:

Am I able to reserve a phone for my fiance with my apple ID even if she's on a different account/plan?

I plan on being there with her to pick her phone up, but shes asleep and I don't know her apple ID/pw so reservation would be under my name..

Yup, doesn't matter. You'll be fine.

Sucks that your experience didn't go smooth, but at least you walked out with an iPhone after driving over an hour. Luckily for me, I only live 10 min away from an Apple Store. I would be pissed if I drove over an hour and came home empty handed!

Oh damn. So I have a 256 7+ MB that has been on preorder since 9/9 and I saw on the forum here that link and reserved a 128 MB 7+ at the Verizon store. So based upon what I am reading, I will be turned away in the morning if I do not do the IUP through apple? I have the leasing contract already through VZW with my Note 4 already.

Man this sucks :(

A slim number have been told they can't get the phone if they aren't using IUP...many many, myself included had no problem either buying the phone outright, or on carrier financing.

This was the case, as in past tense. As I stated previously, I was scolded at the D.C. Store for using the link but walked out with a ATT iPhone 7 + Matte Black 256 but I was treated as if I were practically a criminal. I was told I would be an exception since I waited out at the store before launch. Worst experience ever. I now realize that this link is for IUP customers and Apple has figured out people are using it as a backdoor so more denials are to be expected.
