The that I got the reservation was through calling someone from Apple store Fifth avenue. I was just asking if they had stock and the lady asked me if I wanted to reserve a pickup. Then I gave her my email and I got the link. She help me navgating throguh the reservation process and only saw silver plus 128gb, picked that and got it on that day.

She knew that I was getting the Att next plan. She said it was alright even though the website says only for IUP.

Activation per se doesn't lock the phone, but when you are paying for the phone with a payment method that requires carrier lock, then the phone is locked during the activation process. So if you are buying a phone using one of the carrier upgrades or payment plans, you can't leave the store without activating the phone. At least, that's how I think it works, but if anyone knows different, please feel free to correct me.

It's just that I've never gotten the feeling that at Apple Stores, there are separate stocks of carrier locked and unlocked phones. They don't always ask you how you are paying before bringing out a phone -- they ask what model you want, bring it out, then it's "how are you paying for this?"

You might be right. It "locks" to that carrier. But when you leave the store and cancel service with that carrier, you now have an unlocked phone. To steal your line - at least, that's how I think it works.

There's been a lot of questions about whether it's locked or not when doing a carrier option. Make sure they do not turn it on and before you turn it on at home you take out the sim and put yours in there. I bought an ATT iPhone yesterday on the IUP and I did not turn it on and put a t mobile sim in there and it worked.

This one. It's working because my friend literally just reserved a phone for 2:30 today about 2 minutes ago. Also the different payment option did show up in the email. Any issues let them know that it states that you can get the phone paying full value or a carrier financing option.. if they say no ask to speak to a manager but make sure you go in there very politely and be outgoing and nice and they'll help you out better and easier.

Does it really matter whether you turn it on or not before swapping SIMs? Can you explain the why? Thanks.

Yes. I did the reservation on a number on my ATT account (does not have to have an upgrade available) and they did NOT open it and turn it on in the store. I went home and popped my GFs t mobile SIM card in there and it's working flawlessly. Btw I converted her from galaxy S7 edge lol

What phone are you using for existing ATT account? Or do you plan to cancel that service.

Her phone is attached to your ATT account but using a TM SIM?
You are still paying for a plan on ATT, right?
[doublepost=1474499781][/doublepost]
If you are doing an IUP then you can do the reservation under her number and pick it up and do your SSN for the payments. Then make sure they do not turn it on in the store and swap sims when you get home.

This is kinda crazy.

So I can borrow my in-laws Verizon # and provide my own SSN at activation - then throw in my ATT or TM SIM before powering?

Someone above says this doesn't work because the IMEI is locked.

Who to believe?

You have to use an existing account in order to reserve through the IUP even though you don't already have IUP. That's where my account came into the picture. She's on T mobile and I have ATT. I reserved a phone using one of my ghost lines that I keep eligible for anything and when I got there I did the IUP and I told them that i was going I put my gfs SIM card from t mobile in there and he said that's cool just don't turn it on until I swapped sims. I dont know why but the specialists told me that.

At Apple Store now, they're telling me Sprint might not allow them to process an iPhone forever upgrade

Thanks ninerboy.

Someone earlier was able to use IUP without activating on Verizon in store. He was on an employer account and his SSN obviously didn't show - they gave him the phone on IUP anyway. I thin if you get the right Specialist you can walk out with just about anything.

Got me thinking...as an ATT or TM account, can you give a dummy number with your SSN and fake your way to a Verizon phone and pop in your SIM at home?

I'm glad I started this thread because I was able to pick up a Matte Black 7+ 128GB on Sunday....! I know the ordering process has been crappy and some have had issues with reservations... if I can help anyone at all find what they need or get their devices please let me know....! I know many have been in this thread and have their devices because a huge thanks to istocknow and those who have shared tips and ideas...

Interesting. Let us know why not!

It didn't work. I have no idea why. It just didn't even come up as an option on his phone. He said probably because Sprint wants their sales too.
[doublepost=1474503329][/doublepost]And by "his phone" I mean the phone registers they use lol

So I was turned away today from buying a phone from the iPhone Upgrade Program reservation link. I wasn't in the program, and simply wanted to pay in full. The employee showed me on his device that there was no option to change payment methods, the only thing it allowed him to do was to trade in a phone. Don't know if this is specific only to this store, but another store nearby also does not allow it. Each Apple Store has the power to make autonomous policies that others might not adopt. Really a shame here in Oregon.

The buy outright page is on the 2nd page of buying options on their phones

Thank you! This was how I was able to also get mine on Sunday. In other news, my preordered phone is still still with ups with no new delivery update.

Doesn't make any difference if you turn on the phone with sim in. I did. I can still use phone on cricket and I turned on the phone on Verizon.

I initially bought a tmo full price, switched it on, forgot to remove sim, still worked with cricket.

Those are unlocked phones, switching it on with sim inside is not going to lock it.

Cricket iPhone 7 FTMFW!

Has anyone done a store pickup using the apple store app? Is it the same as the iup site in that don't need to pay up front, doesn't ask for provider information account information, and is it still considered a part of the iup program? Thinking about trying to do it through the apple store app if possible and whenever the JB's hit as select people are getting turned away on a store by store case using the iup website.

A sprint 128GB black Plus became available around 2pm my time today, but sadly I was stuck at work till 9 so I didn't have the opportunity to hop on it. Hoping for a Verizon/Sprint model to pop up after midnight!

Hi, Can you share the number you called to make in store reservation?
Thanks!

Which Apple Store did you go to?

There are no buying options via the iPhone Upgrade Program reservation link.

He means on the POS phones used at the apple store. Some specialists are saying they need a phone traded in and can't do an outright purchase but thats simply not true.

just curious, does anyone have a screenshot of an Apple.com rep mentioning to use this specific link to reserve/buy a phone at full price? i'm going back to the same apple store that denied me earlier this week with my girlfriend to (hopefully) get her the iphone 7 plus we reserved for her today using the IUP link! :) Hoping to have as much ammunition as possible to ensure that we don't get denied tonight.
