I'm not sure this is correct. Activation doesn't lock them to a carrier.

Activation per se doesn't lock the phone, but when you are paying for the phone with a payment method that requires carrier lock, then the phone is locked during the activation process. So if you are buying a phone using one of the carrier upgrades or payment plans, you can't leave the store without activating the phone. At least, that's how I think it works, but if anyone knows different, please feel free to correct me.

It's just that I've never gotten the feeling that at Apple Stores, there are separate stocks of carrier locked and unlocked phones. They don't always ask you how you are paying before bringing out a phone -- they ask what model you want, bring it out, then it's "how are you paying for this?"

I know this has been posted but I'm at work and don't have time to search this thread.

I just reserved a SPRINT iphone 7 plus using the iphone upgrade program link. I want to Pay in full when I go in to pick up the device. I assume this will not be an issue correct? AND the phone will be unlocked so I can put my T-Mobile sim card in it correct?
Yes. I picked up Sprint and been using T-Mobile since Sunday. No issues

Dear Macrumors, how on earth do you make a reservation on Apple's own site, when it ALWAYS says:

We’re sorry, but this service is currently unavailable.

There's been a lot of questions about whether it's locked or not when doing a carrier option. Make sure they do not turn it on and before you turn it on at home you take out the sim and put yours in there. I bought an ATT iPhone yesterday on the IUP and I did not turn it on and put a t mobile sim in there and it worked.

This one. It's working because my friend literally just reserved a phone for 2:30 today about 2 minutes ago. Also the different payment option did show up in the email. Any issues let them know that it states that you can get the phone paying full value or a carrier financing option.. if they say no ask to speak to a manager but make sure you go in there very politely and be outgoing and nice and they'll help you out better and easier.

Yes. I did the reservation on a number on my ATT account (does not have to have an upgrade available) and they did NOT open it and turn it on in the store. I went home and popped my GFs t mobile SIM card in there and it's working flawlessly. Btw I converted her from galaxy S7 edge lol

What if you are starting a new line of service as my current phone has a TMobile sim but I have created an ATT account waiting for my IP7+ to be added and my wife's number is currently active on it now as her 7 came first on release day?

My phone # doesn't show up with ATT yet but her account is active with them as I cancelled my preorder with them.

When you sign up for a carrier subsidy or payment plan, they take the imei and put it on a list to be locked. Doesn't matter where you turn on the phone orbit the sin is taken out first. Itll be locked because the imei is with the phone forever.

Thank you. I'll see how it goes.

If you are doing an IUP then you can do the reservation under her number and pick it up and do your SSN for the payments. Then make sure they do not turn it on in the store and swap sims when you get home.

Got my 128G MB+ this morning at a local store. They were very nice and helpful. Thanks guys for all these info! See u next year!

But I don't have an att sim yet. This is for my line. How does that work?

Anyone know a good webpage html changes checker for iOS with notification or osx with iCloud motivations ?

Using bjoern-friedrichs.de to do my checks for me now but want a notification while out for any changes to the code.

Just do the reservation under her number. Do the payments under your SSN. Then go straight to ATT and open a new line with a BYOD (bring your own device). Or you can have them add an ATT line at apple at the same time as long as your an authorized user or account holder on the ATT account.

My local Apple Store didn't have any 7+'s at 12:01am. Had my alarm to wake up at 7:50am to see if there were any in the morning, but I slept through my alarm. Woke up at 10:20am and checked right away and found an iPhone 7 Plus - 128GB - Black - Sprint. Reserved it using IUP link, showed up to Apple Store, purchased in full, walked out happy with a Factory Unlocked iPhone now using on T-Mobile.

Hopefully this is my exact story in a few hours.

yea what's up with that I seriously don't get it. Why is it that only tmobile 7+ I can find online are rose gold.

Because fewer want that color and since there are, literally, tens of thousands of people trying to do what you are doing, the popular colors are gone within seconds.
