ordered online on apple.com
went to store for a pick up 1 hr later, picked up, activated, UDP shows with new line.
called AOL, transferred the line to a buyer, all good.
whole process from ordering online to line transferred, 1 hr 30 min.

Did anybody use Google voice to transfer a number from one line to another ? If so, Can you please post the steps to take?

Here are couple of questions i have
1. I currently have 2 lines (individual plans) on my account. When i port line 1 number to Google voice, i am expecting only the line that number is assigned to will be cancelled. Nothing will happen to the second line. Please confirm

2. When we port back the number from Google voice to Vzw, What should we fill for the account details ? Mainly, Billing Address, Carrier Account Number and PIN

Also i have a credit in my account. Will it be affected?

I found a Iphone 6 in stock at a local store and ordered it for pickup as it is allowing me to only order for instore pickup. In the rate plan details, i don't see the new phone number. Is this common for Instore pickup orders? Will there be any problem when i go for pickup?
I ordered an iPhone last night with in-store pick up - there was no phone number on my order, as there was on my ship-to-home order. The Genius had my in-store phone brought out, he scanned it, there was an unrelated call to VZW, and after I signed for the iPhone a new number was assigned to the handset (which was still in the box). The new iPhone and number showed up in My Verizon a few minutes later...

it will be cancelled when you port but this is pretty interesting... you can port and keep your line active by requesting a new number before the port since verizon holds onto numbers that are discarded for 49 days or something like that.

Looks like from reading some of the post on slickdeals that some of the loop holes may be closing. If anybody has any more questions I will be back around noon and will answer any private messages received then. Also if anybody needs a new unlimited line let me know. Thanks and have a great day and ROLLTIDE:D

Thanks, I'm unable to find the "activate over cellular data" option. Which screen did it show up on and what were the steps you took? Do I just need to turn off my wifi that I previously connected to so it can't find it?

I believe how I did it was actually letting the activation fail so many times over wifi, it gave me the option for cellular on the screen that lets you choose which wifi to use or iTunes. I'm about to go pick up another 6 today, I'll let you know exactly how I did it bc I'm sure same will happen again :)

What did you read on Slickdeals? Apple UDP is gone/closing?

I didn't read anything that scared me. I activated a line yesterday no problems. Going to pick up another today when i get the pickup email. Hopefully everything is still good.

I'm on a call with VZW, started by my calling Apple. I got my iPhone 6 today, ordered on 9/21, and I couldn't activate it today. I had nothing to lose and I am willing to return it, given that it won't affect my existing lines with UL data.

So, I'm on hold with a Level 2 Tech. I told her that, if this does not go well, I'm prepared to cancel and return the iPhone 6 tomorrow (it's almost 6 pm local time).

Here's the problem that has prevented my activation today. After waiting up 2 hours after delivery to see if the device would be tied to my account I did call VZW to find out why the activation didn't "take". One VZW rep told me that there's no record of the number Apple provided me with. So, I called Apple, who transferred me to the VZW Level 2 Tech.

The Level 2 Tech told me that Apple set the activation date of the mobile telephone number to 8/16/14 - two weeks from today - 8/2/14, the scheduled delivery date. She told me through the course of the call, the Tech indicated that she might be able to revise that date to today, and asked for the number that Apple tied to the iPhone, and later asked for whether I'd bought the device on contract or at full price (on contract) and then the IMEI and ICCID numbers, which I passed on to the Tech.

I did get the iP6 activated, but with a 2GB data plan. I'll be getting the device removed, order cancelled and return the handset. My other reason for calling in was to get the "pending activation" removed from my account - which could have lasted two weeks or so, according to the Tech. So, that's my story.

My two Best Buy orders had the "your order has issues" email last night, so I cancelled those too...

So, not a good day for me. I'll try again soon to order a new line. I thought I'd offer this as an explanation of what's going on on their end. FWIW, the Tech did say "be sure to not order from Apple...". I will try again from Apple, and if I get the UL option I did 10 days ago I'll be sure to get one in the store...

I'm beginning to wonder if this is my problem. My iP6+ was originally scheduled for delivery Oct 14-21 but arrived yesterday. Not able to activate it via wi-fi or cellular network. Is it worth calling and getting a level 2 tech to change that date? Or will they most likely change the data plan in the process? Understand I very well may need to return it and try again with in-store pickup next week.

Have you tried activating in another iPhone/phone??

No problems picking up a phone this morning and getting it activated at the store. Also no problems activating it through apple servers. Easy peasy. Keep em coming!

1. True. Nothing happens to the other line.

2. In Google Voice, you simply "unlock" your number. Then you go to Verizon and for that particular line, you port the number back in. I can't remember the details it asks you for, but it is pretty straightforward.

A credit in what account? Shouldn't matter. When I ported the number back in from Google Voice, there was some issue and I had to get on the phone with someone at Verizon. He was helpful, and waived some fee they apparently charge. So you might run into that.

It also takes a few days to fully work. Verizon will send you a text message when the port is complete, saying "welcome to verizon" or something along those lines.

I have a gift card applied to my vzw account, so it has a negative balance as of now. Just wanted to make sure that -ve balance doesn't vanish.

Hi Octacon,
One more question. People have reported that it took about 24 hrs to port the vzw number to GV. Does this hold true even if i start the process over the weekend or it is only when you start on weekdays?

Thanks for taking the time.

Obviously I'm not Octacon but I ported my number recently via Google Voice. It took me about a 1.5 days for the transfer to be complete during the weekday. I remember porting another number from T-Mobile to Verizon over the weekend once and it was about the same time so I don't think it makes a difference. Hope this helps.

I intend to order another iPhone 6 or 6+ - I won't call VZW again. The Tech gave me a new number, different than the one the iPhone order had on it. The Tech gave me a new 2GB/pay per use TMs - and I returned the iPhone yesterday (while picking up my second order - in-store this time) basing my return on the plan details were not what I signed up for as justification to return the phone and cancel the line.

As I'd reported earlier - Apple called VZW much to my chagrin, I didn't. It wasn't until I logged into My Verizon that I'd seen the 2GB/pay per use TMs swapola that VZW pulled. The Tech told me that the new number was facilitated by a manager. Take the advice of others in this thread and in the Slickdeals thread - don't call VZW. I'm actually surprised that VZW didn't try that again with my in-store pickup, but that turned out to be a different matter altogether.

Every new line I've every bought from VZW was generated at the time of purchase (if it wasn't changed).

Return the iPhone. You could wait a couple of weeks in the vein of what the Tech told me, but I think that was a BS ruse or they didn't have a clue. Calling in will likely get you a new 2GB plan! Screw that IMO!

I am getting same problems not being able to activate. Not through cellular, wifi, or iTunes. Keep getting activation servor error message.

Yea same here. Think I've exhausted my non-sim swap options.

I did do a hard restart while plugged in to iTunes and did a phone restore, which downloaded 8.0.2 to it which the apple support guy said "added the activation policy" to my phone correctly which he said matched it to Verizon, but then said I'd now need to call VZW and have them look up the IMEI to figure out what was wrong.

For those that have had trouble and returned their ship-to-home orders, what's the fastest way/best process to do so to open the account back and try again for in-store pickup?

What I did, reported above. The only nervous spot for me was getting VZW to approve a shorter waiting period than the standard 72 hours after a return - a manager had to approve my picking up a new iPhone less than 24 hours after cancelling the device/SIM I had an issue with. I also think what VZW told the Genius - the shorter wait period thing - is utter BS, because I was able to "add a line" in My Verizon about an hour after I cancelled, and I was able to add a line by buying the iPhone 6 that's resting in front of me...

FWIW, I could have kept the iPhone and taken the 2GB plan. Uh, not.

Yeah, that's true. Sometimes it can take less or more. It doesn't seem to be consistent. I ported my VZW number to Google Voice, then the next day, ported my GV number back to Verizon. It took longer to go from GV --> VZW than it did to go from VZW --> GV.

If you are just doing it as a placeholder to keep your current number, just be patient. It will take 3–4 days for everything to fully settle, and be working as you expect.

Picked up my phone today with unlimited. I didn't run into any problems. Going to try to port the number from a 2GB line to the new unlimited line tomorrow via GV.

Start the port process on the GV site, then immediately go to My Verizon and change your number on that line. That's how I did it anyway (based on research). It worked great, and I avoided any possible fee or ETF [though I'm not sure if either of those would have actually happened, also since the line I was doing it on was out of contract...]

Then port it back (I gave it about 24 hours). Not sure why, but when I tried to port the number (after unlocking it on GV), I ran into an error, and had to call Verizon. I have a feeling that this error resulted in me not waiting enough for the port to really settle. (I think you need to give the VZW --> GV port a solid 48-72 hours before trying to port back, when I only gave it 24), but your mileage may vary.

The only crappy part about using GV is that there is no support. But hopefully you won't need anything from their end.

Thanks for the info. Everything I've read makes it seem pretty straight forward, besides how long to wait before porting back to VZW.

I think before I start the port I'm going to change the 2GB line into a basic line just in case I get hit with an ETF (hopefully an unlikely scenario) and because I'm gonna keep it as a basic line anyways afterwards.
