Question about AOL process.

I just AOL'd a line. I never deactivated a phone or anything in My Verizon before doing it.

The line has disappeared from My Verizon account. However, I'm still able to make calls from the phone that was using the AOLd line.

What gives?

////

Apparently the person that purchased the line, has not activated a new device on the line yet. The current phone on the line is a 4S. So I guess I have to wait until they activate a new device on the line.

If I had a 4G phone, I could simply pop out the SIM, and it would no longer be associated with that line correct? Or would I still have to wait for the person to activate a new device on the line, regardless of whether or not a new SIM was put in?

When you do aol all the info gets transferred to new owner including phone simcard info. The phone is acctive on new account until the new owner activates new equipment.

You can't get out of the contract on your wife's line w/o paying the etf. But you can make the etf less painful on your wife's line by putting a basic phone on it before you cancel it.

Ok. Just so I understand correctly, order the new line with UDP. I also plan to port her number over to the new UDP. So before the new phone comes in, put a feature phone in place under her current line then activate new phone under UDP when it arrives?

Does her original line (now with feature phone) get cancelled automatically? and just pay ETF on feature phone line?

thanks for the help.

Can someone verify this for me:

If you have a Verizon 4G sim card that is working in another phone, you can just pop it into a new Verizon iPhone 6 (that isn't currently activated on any line), and it will work with that users SIM?

Is there anything else the new user needs to do, contact Verizon, etc?

imei number

what can someone do with my imei number?
a potential buyer wants it to check against at&t...
can they do anything with that info?

thanks

I am selling two iPhones purchased with the loophole. They were shipped to store and scan activated. They are showing on my account with UDP. So far so good.

Based on what I have read, it appears I will need to open the box and turn on this iPhone or put the SIM in another smart phone to complete the activation process.

If I turn in the iphone that came with the plan, do I need to do anything else? For instance, do I need to go through the step by step activation process? Can I now sell the iPhone I just purchased?

If I simply grab another phone, say a Galaxy S5 and insert it and turn it on, am I done and can I now sell the new iPhone I just purchased?

I am just concerned about selling the iPhone to someone and they have some issue using it on their account and I am looking for guidance on how to make sure that is not a problem.

I have more questions, but working through one at a time. I have always been on AT&T so Verizon and their process is new to me.

Nope. The iPhone 6 will activate automatically with the number on the SIM card you are using inside it. I have done it twice with no interaction with verizon.

Of course you are - every line must have a phone on it and until the buyer puts a new phone on the line, you can use it.

No - a phone cannot be on 2 Verizon lines at the same time. The phone is on the line you AOL'ed until the buyer puts a new phone on the line.

Quick follow up,

When the person who receives the AOL'd line replaces the existing device with their own, the old device essentially disappears from their account, right? Like, there is no way they could activate a new phone, and then report the prior phone (aka the phone still in my possession) stolen or something right?

In my situation, the person has the line, and I still have the phone. If they wanted to screw me over, they could report the phone as stolen, right? (in this case, they haven't activated a new phone yet to replace mine)

thanks again!

I cannot guarantee you will only be charged the basic line etf of $175 minus $5/mo the contract was active, but I can tell you that I just added a line b/f 8/25/14 and got an iP5s with the line. I put a basic phone on the line for a full billing cycle and then canceled the line and was only charged an etf of $175.

Theoretically they can clone your IMEI.

I don't understand what you mean by check against ATT - these are verizon phones.

----------

I have simcards and I activate new simcard on new udp accunt no need to open box at all

Does this mean you activate a different 4G LTE phone on the new UDP line and then sell the iPhone sealed?

----------

If I order a 16GB with this method, can I change it to 64GB at the store? Would it mess up the UDP?
I know if you are using a UDP upgrade - you will lose your UDP if you exchange for a new phone in store and they do the scan activation on the new phone. If you get a replacement phone then no.

Idk if you are exchanging a phone received with a new UDP line but not worth the risk IMO.

It will stay in their drop down menu but they can't reactivate it on their account b/c they don't have the phone in their possession. To reactivate it on their account, they would need to type in the SIM card that is in the phone and then turn the phone on with that SIM card in it.

They can't reactivate it without having it in their possession, but as far as reporting something as stolen, idk - you would need to ask Verizon and see what they say.

If it is still on their account, yes they can report it as stolen and right now it is still on their account. Once it is no longer on their account, it will still show in the device history for the line, but they can't reactivate the phone on their line.

Thanks Jules. That all applies to 3G phones as well, correct?

Essentially, I have a 4S that I AOL'd the line to someone else. I'm waiting for them to activate a new phone to replace my 4S. Once that is done, I can safely sell/give the phone to someone, without a possibility of it suddenly stop working (i.e., reported stolen or reactivated under someone else's account, etc.) right?

Again, I really appreciate your insight.

Interesting. Has anyone tried it after 8/25/14? I have not used the UDP for myself, since I have an year left on my account, but if this works, then I would definitely do it.

You can't reactivate any phone on your line without having the phone in your possession or at least the cooperation of the person who has the phone in their possession. For 3G and basic lines, you have to dial *288 from the phone itself to get it back on the line. For 4G LTE phones, you need to turn it on with the SIM card in that you typed the SIM card number for.

Again, if you want to know about reporting it stolen, call Verizon and ask them b/c idk.

From what I have read on SD, new lines created on or after 8/25/14 when you click to see their contract end date, it shows you the $30/mo data plan requirement on the line. Even if you put a basic phone on the lines, the data plan is not supposed to drop off. I don't have one of those plans to test it out. I am guessing but if the data plan won't drop off, then I think that would mean you would get charged the $350 etf.

As a reminder - NEVER PUT A BASIC PHONE ON A UDP LINE!!!!!!

I'm a rookie. I have no idea how to do this. How do you get the extra SIMs and then how how you activate that SIM versus the one in the phone?

What happens with the SIM in the phone once the new owner powers up?

Thanks!

You activate a SIM card by putting it in a 4G LTE phone and turning the phone on after you have done an activate device online through Verizon and input the IMEI of the 4G LTE phone and the SIM card number.

That is the question I want to know, too. If you have activated another phone with a different SIM card in it on your line, that SIM card in the phone is now not on your line. They should be able to reassociate the SIM card with their line, but they would have to know how to do that.

Yeah my main line is a TDP with 2GB, with upgrade in Oct 2015. I hadn't bothered doing the Porting route because of the ETF. But if I can use a basic phone, then the ETF would be much lower.

I also checked my verizon account. My line does not mention the $30 min but the lines that were recently upgraded show it.
Do I need to keep the basic phone for a billing cycle?

If you AOL a new line and sell the iPhone to someone else and the person who bought the new line stops paying their bill, does Verizon blacklist the phone or do they just go after the person who AOLed the line for the charges due?

What iphone is that ?You can check if the imei is clean.

iPhone 6

Jules,
PayPal does suck, so does eBay.
I am a little worried every time I sell something on eBay now especially big ticket items, such as iPhone.

They pulled my listing with no warning, and wants me to provide short of my birth certificate, to verify.
PayPal held my fund recently because they "detect suspicious activities." The whole process took 10 days to resolve. I've been using eBay and PayPal for a long time. I look for new platform to sell all the time. If my market is not so saturated with phones I would just sell locally on Craigslist and call it a day.

That's why I ship my phone without sim.
I activate the phone in my house place a test call with the right sim in phone.
Reset the iPhone.
Ship.
Keep the sim or destroy it. It's pretty much useless at this time when you aol the line to someone else.

I have a new udp sim in my old 5. Works fine. To me after you have a live sim you can do whatever you want to do with it.
