That's why I ship my phone without sim.
I activate the phone in my house place a test call with the right sim in phone.
Reset the iPhone.
Ship.
Keep the sim or destroy it. It's pretty much useless at this time when you aol the line to someone else.

I have a new udp sim in my old 5. Works fine. To me after you have a live sim you can do whatever you want to do with it.

After you activate the phone and make a test call, do you remove the SIM before or after you reset the phone. Does it matter?

By reset do you mean, "erase all content and settings"?

Once you have done this, you AOL the line, and destroy the SIM correct?

Do I need to keep the basic phone for a billing cycle?
Idk, that is what I did. It was terminated by accident and was supposed to be reconnected but when I saw the etf was only $175 I decided to not reconnect it.

Jules,
PayPal does suck, so does eBay.
I am a little worried every time I sell something on eBay now especially big ticket items, such as iPhone.
I sell through swappa and have a documented paper trail that the phone was received without damage. Try swappa. It's still through paypal but seems safer to me. Prices are a bit lower than what you get on ebay.

Had a chat with verizon online. They say I cannot move a phone number from a 2 gb to the newly acquired unlim data line. Has anyone been able to do that?

Only curious as my wife will not agree to get a new phone number

If you AOL a new line and sell the iPhone to someone else and the person who bought the new line stops paying their bill, does Verizon blacklist the phone or do they just go after the person who AOLed the line for the charges due?

I called Verizon and I was told, no they would only blacklist any new subsidized phones the person who AOL'ed the line was able to purchase using the line's upgrade.

I am not sure if this is true or not. Can someone else call and see what answer you get?

With verizon, you always have to call back and try another rep. I have been told numerous times you can, although I have never had to do it. But if you can't get one who will do it for you, you can do the GV port.

Do a gv port like Jules suggested.
Verizon party line is no new lines with udp.
Somehow <wink wink> you got a new udp like. Most CSR don't know how to deal with it. At least that's my impression.

I don't think it matters.
Yes.

I was told they can't or won't do it within the same family plan. Who knows why I was denied. Maybe they can't do within the verizon ecosystem.

I would not recommend the google voice route because it takes forever. I even spoke to a Verizon rep about it. Google voice numbers are considered landline and take forever to port out. Porting to it takes about 24 hours. I'm about 48 hours in the porting back process.

People should get a prepaid tmobile or something. Ports between wireless carriers take literally 4 minutes. As confirmed by a verizon rep as well.

Sorry to hear that man.
I got it within 36 hours. It'll get done as long as your gv indicate that you're number is ported out. And VW says you're in the process.
Good luck man! I hope you get it back soon.

Yes the status page says the authorization was approved and they're in the process of transferring it over.

It can be done, you just need to get the right rep on the phone. They way they do it is to change the phone number on your wife's 2GB line - that frees up her number to be put on the new UDP line. Verizon won't reuse a number for 49 days so her number stays available for them to put on the UDP line for 49 days.

I think they charge you for doing that, though.

meh, no biggie to me as you can still receive your calls in GV.

How much does that cost to buy the prepaid phone, just $10 or something like that? Do you have to buy minutes, too? Then you just do the port online or how?

Yes, calls and texts are being forwarded which is good. Making outbound calls confuses some people if I use my temporary verizon number

Yea you would get any phone and prepaid plan. An extra 5/5C/5S works great. Go get the cheapest monthly plan and request your number. It' will terminate your verizon service as well so be careful of ETC fees. Then call Verizon and port it back on an unlimited line.

I ported my moms number from Virgin Mobile to an unlimited line and it was successfully ported in 10 minutes. Receiving calls, texts, and iMessages.

Is there a concept of a "primary" number? I would like to do the above process with my number which was the first number on the family line. Does it matter?

Good question. I'm not sure. All the number porting out and in I have been doing have never been the primary number being modified.

I always log into the verizon website with the username as the primary number so hmmmmm

Any suggestions on what is the carrier with the cheapest monthly plan to do this on? I would need a GSM phone likely as I am sure Verizon's pre-paid is far from cheap.

When you add a UDP line, can you select ship to store?

For you to be able to select p/u in-store they have to be in stock at that store, correct?

Yea I can log in using the "primary" number but not the other numbers. (Usually I just use my alphanumeric username).
dilemma... need some expert advice here.

Hi cnotes2019,

I see you opened few new udp lines using the apple loophole. Have a question for you. I received my first new line order yesterday (ship to home) and it activated fine. I then tried to make another order and it gave me below message. Did you see this before?

Important Information.

Based on the information you provided, you will only be able to pick up your iPhone in an Apple Retail Store.

Verizon may also require a deposit in order for you to purchase a new iPhone; deposit can only be paid in an Apple Retail Store.

You can still continue with your iPhone purchase on the Apple Online Store by selecting the Personal Pickup option, and then picking up your order in an Apple Retail Store.

If the Personal Pickup option is not currently available, your iPhone will be removed from your Cart and you’ll be able to purchase an iPhone, depending on availability, in an Apple Retail Store.

I found a Iphone 6 in stock at a local store and ordered it for pickup as it is allowing me to only order for instore pickup. In the rate plan details, i don't see the new phone number. Is this common for Instore pickup orders? Will there be any problem when i go for pickup?

Any update on this? Did you successfully pick up in-store having this message when you ordered?

follow-up question for those more knowledgeable:

It is a new line. Who would pay the activation fee? I want to make sure I pay that before selling the line. Or, decrease the price that much before selling. Thanks!

Do you know what happens with the activation fee if you AOL the line b/f the activation fee shows up on your bill? Does it show up on your family plan bill or on the line you AOL'ed's bill?

I called Verizon. They said it would be on my next bill. Good to know.
I figured that b/c the person who accepts the AOL accepts all charges from that day forward, but none b/f then. Thanks.
