I've done it successfully on two separate iPhone X orders without issue.
Apple hasn't given the tracking information out but I can't see what bearing that would have on it. Clearly the phones are in UPS' custody now. Apple's systems will likely be linked into UPS' and some kind of trigger is pulled automatically when they depart China as I imagine that's their technical definition of 'shipped'.

Apple just reports whenever it’s officially shipped. They have nothing to do with the logistics at this point.

You’re just letting UPS know as early as possible to hold it at CC facility.

Delayed deliveries, trucks delivering at closing hours of the store, trucks leaving the store as their last stops, etc. I’ve seen it all. However, it’s just a recommendation. Do what’s best for you.
 
Anyone here with November 20-27 delivery window and do you think there's a chance to get it earlier? I'm one of those who got stuck with reservation number in limbo until earlier today when I finally got an email to place an order.

I didn’t realize that Apple released their pad yet? Or did you order a different one? If so could you share which one please.

Gruber mentioned that the Belkin one he got for review sucks is because if the phone vibrates and even moves a little bit off center, the charging stops, so wireless charging on this iteration of the iPhone might not be the best experience...

My current delivery date on IPX silver 256gb nov is 17 to nov 24th. Thinking of adding a new line to my AT&T account at $15 month, and hopefully pick up the new phone at a store in NY area this weekend. Paying full price so If successful, I cancel the Apple order and request AT&T to switch the new IP to my existing line, and cancel the new line. Is this plausible or will AT&T rack me with a hefty cancellation fees on the new line?

Do u plan to go in store on launch day and pick up the phone.?

They are moving the phones from one warehouse to another (sort facility)

Why would you need to add a new line? If you are paying full price, just take the sim from your phone and put it in your new phone and keep your same number. If you still owe on your old phone you would still need to either continue paying on it, or sell it and pay it off.
