There is no sim free model for the iPhone X available at pre order so the guy above wouldn’t be able to. So he would have to buy one from the carrier selection from Apple.com and he wants wants Verizon model. So therefore he will need a Verizon account even if you plan to buy outright it requires carrier account info. Only way around this is buy it directly from Apple Store near you.

Oh wow I didn't notice that the sim free model is not a chose for the iPhone X!! Thanks for pointing that out.

Apple doesn't usually carry a sim-free in the beginning, the iPhone 8/8 Plus being the exception. So thus, I would have gone sim-free, had that been an option. I definitely want the phone for myself, no scalping here, but want the ability to go to Verizon down the line.

Can I just create a Verizon account but not an actual paid account? I know it asked for a phone number, I'm assuming that's not possible either. Cannot believe the headaches. I didn't mind last year, since I knew I was staying with AT&T. So the AT&T 7 Plus was fine, but this year it's different for me.

You may want to contact Apple or stop at the Apple store and see what they say about it? Or even contact Verizon. I'm assuming it would have to be a post paid account. Since it's asking for SSN also the account pin number.

Hello, first timer here for both this thread and the iPhone Upgrade Program through
Apple.com.

I am looking to pre-order an iPhone X. My current carrier is T-Mobile. I am new to the iPhone Upgrade Program and want to have the greatest chance possible at getting an iPhone X in my hands by November. I have done some research regarding T-Mobile's in store only policy, but I am still confused. Surely Apple does not expect me to be able to just walk in on launch day and get a T-Mobile iPhone X.

I have read that people have gotten reservation links last year for the iPhone 7 from Apple support chat that lets them reserve the 7 through iUP and go to the Apple Store to pay and pick it up. However, I have not been able to find anything regarding reservations for the X.

So, here are my questions:
1) Generally, what is my best course of action?
2) More specifically, should I just get the Verizon/Sprint version (the better models) and try to switch to T-Mobile iUP in store? Would they let me? Would I have to buy it in full and try to get it refunded in store? From what I understand to get the iUP ones you need a Verizon account.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and (possibly) helping me

Bump for this - I have the same exact questions.

No you actually need to sign-up for a Verizon plan for a smartphone. Once activated, you then register an online account with a password and security code. You will need that code and the Verizon number to order through the Apple Store online at 3am EST. You can just sign-up for a Month to month plan the week of the pre-order, and then cancel once you receive and activate the phone. Think it’s $40 for a 3gb plan, and then $30 activation fee. With taxes and those service fees, total of $80. Don’t know if a pre-paid plan would work though, but either way you will have to pay for the 1 month. Seeing that the phone itself is gonna cost in excess of $1,000, don’t think the $80 will break the bank.

Thank you, yes, $80 will not break the bank. I might just go that route. That is unless a magical sim-free option appears.

Looks worth every penny. Just was on a flight with someone who worked at Apple and was testing everything
I sure hope iPhone X supply constraints aren't true. Seems like most people are waiting for this phone to upgrade.

Does anyone know if I can do In-Store Pickup for the iPhone X without using Apple Upgrade Program on the night of Oct 27th for pre-orders?

When I pre-ordered the 8 Plus sim free model it gave me the option to pick up in stores. So I'm pretty sure you can if they have the option available.

My number isnt the main line on the account so i cant really give apple the info they want.

Is there any place u can pay/rent for a line just for the purpouse of buying a phone?

I dont plan on letting both verizon and apple's bank run my credit in the same week. And opening a line for a month is a hassle

When you select the iPhone you want, it asks you if you want to replace this phone that you're currently using. It doesn't matter if you're not the account holder, you can still order a new iPhone to replace the one you have. You just need the account holder's info in order to proceed.

Never give ur ssn to anybody, i cant ask for their ssn.

Also its their account for their home business so i cant have any upgrade fees showing up on their bill (letting me rent one of their unlimited lines)

Since there will be no SIM free model available at launch it appears that I'll have to order one with a SIM installed. Is there any difference between a SIM free model and one offered for AT&T?

Yes. The fact that AT&T/T-Mobile uses Intel and Sim-free/Verizon/Sprint uses Qualcomm. Meaning that if you get AT&T model and decide to switch carriers to a CDMA network, it will not work.

Oh, I'm on my parents' account so I used my Dad's SSN.

Hmmm... so now it's a question of how to get a SIM free model at launch, which even though not offered would be the A1865. Looks like I'll have to check to see the cheapest way to get a prepaid Verizon/Sprint account as I'm not interested in porting my current # over from my AT&T prepaid plan.

Sadly the sim-free model isn't available for the iPhone X at Pre-order. Most likely after about a month or so, Apple will release the sim-free model.

But do I need access to the primary account holder’s physical phone? I tried to do the process on the Apple store app yesterday for an iPhone 8 as a trial run but after I put in the primary account holder information it sent a text to the primary number on the account (AT&T). I don’t want them to get a text at 3 am.

Yes it does send a text so they confirm its not fraud. No way around it

Can I do that part of it ahead of time during the pre-authorization for iUP, if they have that?

Im not sure this my first time upgrading with iUP.

From what i can tell thw pre-auth is only to get your loan approved. The actual purchase is on lunch, which is when i think theyd need to text you
