Hey everyone

So I bought my iphone 5 on friday, but Im on a family plan and the primary holder of the account (my mom) lives at a different address... I tried calling, apple and ask if the shipping address could be changed but as you can guess, that day Phone lines were busy all day and I was traveling outside the US... sadly I had no way to contact apple until today when I returned to the States, my order status with apple says 'Preparing for shipment'. So i called apple and told them my situation and they sent a request to the carrier (UPS) to change the address... BUT since my order status said PREPARING FOR SHIPMENT, I thought it hadnt been sent yet. Well I went to the UPS website and checked if they had already sent it using my phone number to find my package and turns out they have already mailed it and this is the shipment progress so far.

Nashville, TN, United States 09/17/2012 3:06 P.M. Departure Scan
Nashville, TN, United States 09/16/2012 4:01 P.M. Departure Scan
09/16/2012 10:49 A.M. Origin Scan
United States 09/15/2012 12:25 P.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS

in the Shipment information it still says my mom's address. my concern now is that because of the request I did through apple maybe my iphone will be delayed. Do you think that could happen? or will they just redirect it to my address?

Thank you

I work in customer service for a company and have to do reroutes/intercepts with UPS daily. The way it works is the package goes to the original location still and is then sent to the new location. So if you are in CA and mom is in GA, that's an additional 5 days from the original scheduled delivery date.

Oh cool!

I just hate that I completed my order at 4:30 on the 14th am and my iPhone is coming the same day as someone who ordered yesterday.

I keep refreshing my order page to see if there will be some change in delivery date.

Unfortunately I think that ship has sailed my friend. I think all the delivery dates that were going to change have changed. I am pretty sure those people received emails as well.

Still not quite sure Apple is not updating its tracking

My phone just landed from Alaska into Louisville....But Apple.com still says prepping for shipment ????? Any ideas

They won't update it until they are literally on the road going to your house. I have a feeling it will say shipping on Wednesday or Thursday to fit into that "3 day shipping" crap.

Date commitment will hold up. Service-related time commitments are not guaranteed.

OK. Thanks. I just wish one of these times I will be one of the lucky ones - UPS error which means delivery a day early or just get it early in the day. I hate being stuck at home all day waiting. Yes, I know I am whining.

Turns out I enter my billing number wrong when I set up my apple account.. Put in the one I entered and got the tracking info. I will have my phone around 10am Friday!

For all those that can't pull up the tracking info check and see if you entered your billing phone number right

For anyone having difficulty tracking, here's a few tips (some may have already been shared):

1. Enter phone number with no spaces used for Apple ID in reference #
2. DO NOT enter a destination country or zipcode (JUST the reference #)

Leaving country and zip code blank seems to be the difference in whether or not you get a hit. Your destination city will appear on the tracking page (if found)

My at&t black 64gb just left Alaska :)

Any 10/5 babies thinking of cancelling and waiting in line? Its just so risky..
Mine switched today to "delivers on 21st", so I am not.
But I was going to wait until late Thursday to see if it goes into prepared for shipping before I commit to standing in line.

Ok, so...

I placed two orders via Apple one at 3:40am EDT and one four minutes later. The first is Preparing for Shipmemt and left Anchorage earlier today. The second has a date of Oct 5. Is this because I ordered two or because the pre-orders sold out in those four minutes? Any chance of the second coming on Friday?

Does ups use dedicated delivery trucks for launch day deliveries in large metros? Or should I expect mine on my normal truck at work, which usually rolls in about 1048 am. :D

Just a few pages ago was the announcement and confirmation that all deliveries are guaranteed by end of day (7PM in some areas), all other commitments are cancelled or superseded. Some reps are still misinformed.

The World ease gets you through customs and gets converted to regular air EOD service once it hits the states.

If you are a business with scheduled deliveries, you will likely get the phone then, but otherwise its just whenever the delivery truck gets to your address.

Happy hunting.

Other than chat logs (and we all know how reliable UPS customer service is) :) ... the only "substantive" evidence of iPhone deliveries being made by "end of day" is a screen grab from the UPS site -- BUT, on a tracking screen from a "Next Day Air Saver" shipment. Which isn't guaranteed until "end of day" anyway!

As I said in a previous post: as long as it comes ON the 21st I'll be happy! BUT, it'd be nice if it came in the morning, SOLELY because I'm on the East Coast and I'll be LESS worried about servers going down for activation! :)

And for those of you (like me) whose shipping shows "UPS Worldwide" -- think of this ...

... ASSUMING that Apple "stopped" morning deliveries of iPhones, consider this: since the full day's packages are put on the truck in the morning, how will the driver tell NOT to deliver a Worldwide package after 10:30am? How can the driver tell that what's in the box is an iPhone 5? Maybe someone ordered an unlocked iPhone 4S!

At least from past experience, Apple hasn't printed on the box "Hey I'm an iPhone 5 - DON'T deliver me until the end of the day!"

When they ship from ZhengZhou do they go by plane? My ups status says departed from there at 8:27am but not sure where its going, or what flight if any?

My iPhone is on the same flight as yours!! Week 37 64GB white/silver AT&T

The iPhones go to Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong then Anchorage, Alaska. From there they either go to Ontario, California or Louisville, Kentucky

Well, after some haggling with UPS on their chat.. and a phone call from a supervisor.

I am able to pickup my iPhone at my local hub on 9:30AM on 9/19/2012

LOL Ok, just kidding about the 9/19 but they are allowing me to pick it up on 9/21 at 9:30 at my local hub. That way I do not have to wait until the end of the day to get my precious iPhone 5 =)

Now, As soon as I see on the tracking info that my iphone is at the local hub before 9/21 I am going to go in there and try my luck at just picking it up then. I am fully prepared to bring 40 or 50 bucks in an attempt to possibly bribe one of the UPS employees.

Did you need to say anything in particular to make this happen? Since they won't be making the service time commitment, I'm definitely looking for this option. UPS always delivers very late in my area. Typically after 5PM.

Current Summary

I feel like it would be good to keep a running overall summary that can be posted and updated frequently. I'm probably not the person to maintain this as I will be in rural Alabama/Mississippi tomorrow and not very available.

Current Info
  • The Store.Apple.com order status currently states Preparing for Shipment or Order Processing for everyone as of this posting. No one has reported the status as shipped so far.
  • Some phones are already stateside, originating in TN or IL. Others are coming through AK and going to either Ontario, California or the Louisville UPS hub.
  • You can check and see if you can get a tracking number early by following the guide in the first post of this thread. It seems the most reliable reference number is the billing phone number listed in your Store.Apple.com account. It should be entered as 5555555555, no dashes, spaces, or beginning 1's.
  • If you can't get tracking via UPS, DON'T Panic. If your Apple order says delivers Sep 21, all indications are that this is true.
  • If you want to check your serial number, go to Apple Support. This should list your iPhone 5 Serial number close to when it is shipped.
  • To see info on what said serial number means, visit http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html/
  • If you don't have a serial number yet, keep checking back. Most likely you also didn't get a tracking number yet, but a few reports say that you may get a tracking number before a serial number.

Please add to and edit this list as new info comes in and continue to post it when people keep asking the same questions. I don't expect everyone to have read the entire thread so posting this often will hopefully help.

Does anyones else UPS shipping screen say this:

I am having mine delivered to my office, so I would assume that means by 3:00.

The DIAD will have the driver's deliveries scheduled for him so most likely the phones will arrive at the time UPS delivers in your neighborhood.

When UPS delivered my 3GS from China on launch day it arrived before 10:30AM but I was not home to sign for it. I called UPS and the customer service rep said they driver will come back later in the afternoon to deliver.

I ordered two at 2:15 CDT. They're both on the way.

Unfortunately, your issue is that you ordered phone #1 before they "sold out" and phone #2 thirty seconds too late.
