or you can print out the pre-sign form from apple and tape it to your front door. they will leave the package there even if no one's home. obviously you have to determine whether or not it will be safe.

I've never had a problem with packages left at the front steps, but if any time for someone to steal it, it would probably be this instance (Murphy's Law). It would cost $849 to replace it. The AppleCare+ won't cover it and you basically sign off on delivery so Apple and the carrier are absolved from any binding responsibility. $5 for the delivery change seems worth it since it would cost me more money to take off from work to hurt down UPS (plus not having it over the weekend to play with would suck knowing it is sitting at the UPS facility).

Thanks! I'm a college student and it's my first time preordering...It's getting shipped to my hometown so for me to plan a trip home and it's not there will be such a pain.

It's still "Processing Items" as well and it's not in UPS's system. Is anyone else having this issue?

Agreed there...I wouldn't trust this package on my porch.

I wouldn't call this an "issue" per se....mine was in that status for about 3-4 days before I got my "shipped" email. Hang in there...it's coming! :D

My phone has been sitting in ZhengZhou, China since 7:30pm(there time) yesterday. No updates. Is this typical? Anyone else have this happen?

How long is it taking people on the west coast to get their phones? I'm hoping since I live in WA, close to Anchorage, it may move a little quicker. I just received my tracking number last night. Any chance I'll get it by Friday? Sooo Impatient

ZhengZhou, China 09/24/2012 2:01 P.M. Origin Scan
China 09/24/2012 4:56 A.M. Order Processed: Ready for UPS

The phone gotta go through the UPS hub in Louisville to finish customs, the planes fly from Anchorage to Louisville. There was one container of phones rejected by customs in Louisville last week. They eventually got the paperwork straightened out, but there were a few folks having high anxiety attacks here :) The phones will move out of Louisville sometime in the early evening and get to the distribution facility and loaded on delivery trucks in time for deliveries in the morning. It happened a million times last week.

What did apple say in their shipping notification, i.e. delivers Sept xx?

Take a look at UPS 59 and 69 coming out of Hong Kong

69 is about to land and 59 has less than 2 hours to go. Give your Tracking Info a few more hours and it should update again. 69 will be in Louisville tomorrow morning. Hold tight kiddies! Mine is coming on Friday, and another one on Monday.

That sure sure seems like a waste of time/money on UPS sending it all the way down there just to send it back up to the northwest! Shipping email says october 1st, was hoping it may have a chance of coming Friday, I don't want to wait another weekend lol..Thanks for the info.

I ordered mine 7am on 9/14. Still says two weeks with October 5th delivery. I'm fine with thy except it's been frustrating how much stock the apple stores have. Then I just read this post that says apple is planning to allowe people to order overnight for next day pickup at stores? I hope there's an opportunity to use that option of you want to change from delivery to pickup.

Just to keep everyone informed of my experience...

I ordered my phone around 4:20 AM EST the day it went on sale. My confirmation said shipping in 2 weeks with an ETA of Oct. 5.

This past Saturday, when I woke up, I had an email saying that it shipped.
The tracking info had a series of Origin, Departure, Arrival scans all in Zheng Zhou, China and all within a couple hours of each other.

No tracking updates the rest of the weekend. When I woke up this morning, it had moved to South Korea. A little over an hour ago it arrived in Anchorage. Next stop Louisville. I live 2 hours north of Louisville.

Based on the fact that I order boatloads of stuff online, the majority of which goes thru the Louisville hub, I am probably expecting my delivery on Wednesday at this point. Tomorrow is not out of question, and would be a nice surprise, but I'm expecting Wednesday.

My whole point is that regardless of the timeframes and expected waits they initially provide you, the iPhones usually arrive ahead of that schedule. Same thing happened when I got an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 3G.

Does anyone have any experience in the Baltimore area? Do the shipments come via plane or truck from Louisville, KY to Laurel, Md?

Mine is part of the same shipment....I am in NC and hoping it gets here by Wed!

My phone is racking up the flier mileage. Can anyone explain this?

I've seen some strange things, but this is wild. Have you tried using packagemapping.com, it can sometimes fill in the details.?

Thank you for the tip. Here's their output.

Maybe it's approaching Louisville from NY (en route Minneapolis) via the Bermuda Triangle?

Mine seems to be stuck in China... It left, then came back... I fear it fell of a truck or something... Sigh...
