I think it just sort of "shuts down" temporarily while they switch from the pre-order page and actually enable purchases. A very quick switch, not necessarily shutting the whole store down again like when they first announced it. But I think the point is the "purchase" button won't just appear, so unfortunately you'll have to refresh until they update it. Or you can use the app.
It's up for me. I have the phone, color, carrier, and size clicked on. Just waiting for the select button to become active.

Kind of off topic but does anyone have experience ordering accessories with their preorder? Will it allow you to add the Apple cases? I worry it may slow my order.

Sorry to jump in like this, but I'm a little anxious. I plan to pre-order the iPhone 6 tonight, but I am not the primary account owner with my Verizon plan. What information will I need from my verizon plan to pre-order? Will I have to select a new plan for data when I order? (I am upgrading from a basic non smart-phone). Someone experienced, please let me know!

you will certainly need some account holder info, like the last 4 of social security, maybe an account password, etc.

i spoke to both apple + att today! just get phone, they can sort it all out during your 14 day window - they can apply gift cards, trade your phone in and if at att can be used toward phone or bill if you do next, at apple can also get a trade in gift card, no worries!! do NOT go on the 19th, go during the week so you don't have to deal with the crazies

FOR EVERYONE, have you security pin memorized or credit card out as they past 2 days when i logged in to apple, it asked me a few times, since the fake (as in random guessed password, that is all) iCloud news of stole celeb pics of last week, i think they may have just added this....
For the 5 they made a big deal about it being shipped with those new earpods. I guess that's what we can expect this time around? I really wish they'd make them in black.
I'd say I'd like them to ship with Beats in ear phones but I bought a pair and the earpods were comically better. Put them back in the box ready to return that same day.

I'm so ready! Was going to go to sleep but I may as well stay up until midnight. Watching Netflix until about 11:55.

I don't live near an Apple store but plan on ordering from apple this year since AT&T is usually a wreck with preorders. But what is the return process? If I decide the 6+ is too big can I return to an ATT store or have to ship it back to Apple?

And probably a lot easier to deal with Apple, especially if you have a store near by. I loathe dealing w/ AT&T sales people.
apple is awesome with returns got to know kaylor quite well with iPhone 5 + my dented phones! i have contact info, hope he's still there! he was awesome!

on sept 4th, the apple app had an upgrade on iPhone/ipad, if you have not done so upgrade it now just in case!!
