Hmm didn't know that either, although either way apple will email you once the units are shipped.
EXACT situation I'm in but ordered close to 2:18am PST 6+ 128 apple.com TMO. I was on a auto refresh every 5 seconds.

I really hope Apple ships my phone via FedEx. UPS generally comes to my neighborhood around 6-8 at night. I got lucky for the iPhone 5 at they came around 2pm but I was stuck at work till 10 that night anyway lol.
I received a reservation (actually 2 as I was buying phones for my wife and I) - I used two different iOS devices at the same time using the same account.
I finally received the reservations around 1:00am PST 4:00am EST. After I received my "complete your order" emails at 8:00am PST/11:00am EST and 9:00am/12:00pm, I got 9/19 deliveries for both a 128+ and a 64+

My Iphone 6+ order says:

3-4 weeks
Does that mean my phone won't actually ship for another 3-4 weeks???

My status changed overnight to Preparing for shipment.
I decided to try to track it on fedex//UPS and was successful.

What carrier and color? Asking because I got the reservation for Space Gray 64GB ATT around the same time as you and it was still Deliver by 9/19. When I got my 2nd email, though, I got pushed back to 7-10 business days.
Yes that is correct, the first few batches of the 6+ sold out within minutes.
Ordered iPhone 6 128GB 12:23 AM PST and am 'Preparing for Shipment'. Nothing on my Support Profile yet though.
Mine has changes to preparing for shipment. I'm rather annoyed because I didn't realize I would be locked into the address that I have listed as my ATT billing address. I changed it with ATT, but I spent four and a half hours on hold over the past two days trying to get an Apple store rep on the phone to change it before it ships.
Any other in-store pickup ordered out there? Mine still says "processing." Not sure if I should be concerned or not..
Hey guys. I know this is random but I have never pre-ordered an iphone before. The iphone 6 was my first one. I ordered mine on sept 12 through apple.com. My order status as of now is "preparing for shipment." My question now is, does Apple send you a tracking number? If so, does it need to be signed for? I'm just as to if I'm going to know when my iphone is delivered and also make sure someone is home when I receive it. Thanks much!

Well it probably wouldn't say preparing for dispatch since you're picking it up, it will probably stay at processing. Heard of people stuck at the processing stage but the item been ordered already, so these stages aren't always updated.

For in-store pickup, it still says the next stage is "preparing for shipment," followed by "shipping to store" and "ready for pickup."
So it should still move to preparing for shipment at some point. Is there something wrong with my order, or do in-store pickups just move to "preparing for shipment" later than home deliveries?
Ah, didn't realise that. Nah you're fine, sometimes they only move onto the next stage a day or two before - if it doesn't move onto the next stage by Friday maybe try calling your store to check that they have it, but most likely it will changed by then.
