Hahahahahaha

I thought so too. But Apple reality distortion field has made everyone a believer. The majority of early adopters are jumping straight into phablets, not stopping for the large 4.7" in their way.

One day you are teasing your Android compadres, the other you have your own pop tart in your hands !

Am I the only one who remembers this forum awash for years with people demanding bigger iPhone screens? I wonder if those are the same people rejoicing now?

I think the numbers are a little off;
a) By the people who ordered 6 and 6+ who will return one of the phones (the phone that feels less comfortable in their hand).
b) The people who will turn up on launch day (or later) buy a phone and then cancel their pre order (me).

a) I suspect most of the phones ordered were on contract and not necessarily the T-Mobile contract free phone. So, unless you have multiple lines you want to authorize the phone to, you're getting one.

b) Your order is included in the 4+ million sold. When you cancel your pre-order, it'll be removed from the weekend totals, which Apple will probably announce on Monday, so instead of counting two, you're back to only having one phone in the total. Granted, if you wait to cancel your order until Monday or later, it's still not counted in the weekend total because Apple announces how many phones they've physically sold/shipped during the weekend (unless they state otherwise in their release). Either way, I'm sure once you're order gets cancelled, there will be another person waiting to pick it up.

What was it people were saying about Tim Cook as a CEO again? I forget. Something about him being a weak leader, horrible for the company and bad for the stock? Hm.

Looking for some advice on ordering....

How long do you guess until Apple offers an unlocked iPhone 6 GSM model on their website (full retail price)?

Is the T-Mobile iPhone 6 on Apple's website simply an unlocked GSM model with the T-Mobile SIM thrown in?

Asking because I want to get an iP6 to use with my Cricket Wireless service.

Thanks.

I feel like some people really just can't be educated.

Apple would be remiss not to thank Samsung for all the work they put in advertising for apple.

From letting customers know before the phone was announced that it was going to be released, to explaining every new feature of the phone in detail for those who didnt know.

Apple needs to hire Samsung for marketing.

Well to be fair Samsung does make money for every iPhone sold so they want apple to do well. The better Apple does is only good for Samsungs components divisions. I'm sure they are very happy to see the iPhone do so well.

Yup, I'm one of those people. The reason? I am way overdue for an upgrade from my 4S, so my first choice was an iPhone 6. I realized though that it's too big already to comfortably keep in my chest pocket, which implies that my current setup (phone in chest pocket with headphones for music and calls) doesn't work anymore. Solution: I ordered bluetooth headphones, and the phone goes into my backpack. However, once I decide to keep the phone in the backpack, the size of the phone doesn't matter anymore, and I can just as well get a 6 Plus with better camera and better battery life (yes, Apple's smart marketing move of restricting OIS to the 6 Plus worked on me). Heck, I would get an iPad Mini now, if it had calling capabilities and an equally good camera.

So I am sorry about that. I am one of the most-hated people on the planet now, because I did that terrible thing called "Changing my mind". It's something nobody should ever do*. But I should point out that it did come with a rather major change in my "smartphone lifestyle".

*Though for the record: I never made fun of anyone with a phablet, and I always clearly stated that I understand quite well why someone prefers a bigger screen for web surfing. So there. :p

Yeah, but Android ships a billion units a month. :D
At a loss! Let's play a bit of a double jeopardy name one android manufacturer that is actually making a profit off the hardware?

Let's not forget android includes toasters washers dryers microwaves refrigerators anything what a quasi-android OS

Obviously I'm Mr. Nobody but I think Tim Cook has done an amazing job.

The only thing that sticks out is that he promised brand new products in the pipeline and apart from the Apple Watch he hasn't delivered on that as of yet.

A lot of people are scoffing at this, but it actually does take a ton of bezel to make one iPhone screen. First, the bezel silicate has to be mined, in one of the bezel mining sites in Canada, China or Chile. Then it gets transported to a bezel refining site. Bezel refining is a multi-step process, requiring removal of mineral impurities, followed by separation into the actual bezel and other chemical components. The pure bezel then gets formed into bezel bars for transport, which end up at a manufacturing facility for making the "wafers" from which the actual iPhone screen bezels get cut. The point it, the raw bezel is very impure, and needs to be highly refined to get usable screen material. It actually does take about one ton of raw bezel material to make a single iPhone screen.

The poster said each bezel was 1 ton or 2000 pounds not the raw materials that it takes to produce the bezel. Additionally there is no way that it takes 2000 pounds or 32,000 ounces of silicate to produce a single bezel that is less than an ounce in weight.

although they might share the same name Sam some component the vision is a totally different company. Samsung component division has a better relationship with Apple than Samsung mobile.

I feel sorry for those who pre-ordered with Phone4U in the UK. The company has gone into administration, so those customers will lose their place in the queue. Hopefully there will still be enough day 1 stock for them to not miss out elsewhere.

Going into administration shouldn't make pre-orders invalid. It means the management has changed from the owners of the company to an administrator. The administrator has to maximise money given to debtors. Delivering phones to customers surely helps.

However, anyone who did order through Phone4U might consider cancelling their order. In the UK, you have considerable rights against the seller of an item - and these great rights are worth nothing if the seller goes bankrupt. So after your 12 month manufacturer's warranty runs out, you won't get any free repairs if the store where you bought is bankrupt.

I strongly assume that is the case. You'd be better off asking Apple directly though.

It's a bit weird. Here in Germany, there is no issue with just ordering an unlocked phone without a contract or any "operator association" for that matter.

So...much wrong in this post. As per the usual you will have zero examples of any one who bashed big screens and is now praising them so that point is moot.

But I am interested in your source that "the majority" of people are jumping right into phablets.

Hint: I know you have no source, I'm just humoring you

Whatever Samsung has to say to spin their declining sales is fine with apple, I'm sure.

Apple pay is a product and he has delivered.

What components? It isn't ram, memory, SoC, screen, rádios.

Again, what components?

You really think that many people could afford to buy two at once? My guess is its a small number and those who weren't sure would wait to buy in store.
Those of us who weren't sure went into a Verizon, T-mobile or ATT, etc. store and held a similarly-sized product to get an idea how the size worked for us. FWIW it made me certain I would be happier with the 4.7 iPhone. Which will be in hand Friday!

Only 4 million in 24 hours... Hmmmm

You mean to tell me the site was down because Apple couldn't handle 4 million customers in a day? Eeek! That's not good.

The site had intermittent probablems for a few hours. I suspect most of that 4 million pre-orders were in the first six hours. And very few pre-order happened during the last six hours of that period.

Wow. So many supposed "iphone killers" haven't sold 4 million in their entire lifetimes. (I'm looking at you, amazon ;-)
