I’m delighted with the Maps app. Now that we have dark mode, I’ve noticed when showing turn by turn, it puts the map basically in light mode, which I like and makes it very clear. But when not on route, the dark mode map is hard to make out. I’d like a control letting us select dark, light, or system, as some third party apps do. Note I don’t have CarPlay and don’t know how that looks.

Just going to skip on over Canada and go right to Europe.

This makes me so vexed! Apple keeps treating Canada like a dirty child and we’re one of their most compliant partner (US) and loyal customers. Someone at Apple needs to be flipped. No cost in travelling overseas, a simple flight or car ride across several border crossings makes us and Mexico the easiest smartest and most cost effective of the next rollout for new Maps

Apple Maps are laughably bad in my part of Germany - my entire village is considered a forest. No buildings, no fields, only roads in a forest...

well according to M Night a village is a forest or yet a park lol. J/k I feel your pain.

anyone in the USA have tried this new maps for in mall store location? The old version is painful to open up maps in a mall and simply cannot search in view for a particular store.

Maybe you're just living in an M. Night Shyalaman movie?

LMAO YOU JUST BEAT ME TO THIS! lol love it.

I hope so too for Canada! I've been switching over from Waze to Apple Maps for over a year. It's gotten much better since iOS 13, but there's still a long way to go for them to match Waze and Google Maps.

I do notice however, that it is already usable for daily city driving; Apple Watch integration is truly wonderful! The new update will make it a keeper!

Remember to turn off incognito for your home when Apple Maps survey vans come over ;)

Apple should do Canada before it jumps to Europe. Screw the Europeans.
Well, thanks for your kind thoughts towards us Europeans! You’ll be delighted to know that Canada (as well as some European counties) are already included in the next phase.

OK? Why do you think Apple Maps should be completely abandoned? You provided your basic input without any stance on why you believe that, which no one’s inclined to support your reasoning if you can’t even back up your argument why you think Apple Maps should be abolished.

ironically, I actually said in this same thread, three years ago Apple Maps needed some revamping, and it’s not even a comparison how much better/improved it is today, and it’s my sole ‘go to’ for navigating to my destinations.
It should be abandoned because they have consistently shown that they cannot match Google's products, no matter how many resources they put into it. Maps incorrectly marked a residential area as 45mph the other day when it was in fact 25mph and with joggers, kids playing, and even an elementary school/school zone. It told me to take this path instead of a highway, which would have been much faster, too. I'm not gambling with Maps. For me it is just as bad as when it started. Also, are there plans to open Maps up to Android users? I'd imagine their data collection will substantially be limited if not.

Pathetic? Christ...the drama in this thread. It is above and beyond Street View...it’s not even close. They’ve tested in limited large cities and will most likely be across the ENTIRE country this year.

Big cities are packed with faces and cars and we’re a great test of their automated censor software.

The fact that they released the stop sign/traffic light feature across the entire country today only shows that Look Around will probably have the same type of release or at least come out MUCH faster.
I hope so. It really is fantastic but it needs to be everywhere not just in big cities.

Anecdotally speaking, maps works fine for me here in Singapore, and I always welcome more alternatives that wean me off the google ecosystem.

I wonder if this is why my wife had 3D maps almost everywhere, and I did not. See has a XS to my X.

Apple plans to also bring the redesign to Europe "in the coming months."
But when will it come to Britain?!

That actually sounds nice to me.

Nah, they sent their cars all over Southern Ontario last year, so I imagine we'll at least get the GTA, and maybe a couple of other metro areas, this year.
They're making a GTA set in Canada? Cool. Geting chased by mounted police and Diefenbakers will be fun!

Never play a game you can't win
That's a rather boring approach to games. Also, how do you ever get good enough to win without playing first?

All because they had the temerity to play punk with Google maps in iOS 5.

Never forget.
What did Google do? It's been a while, I don't remember. Was it they wanted to restrict features to Android, or only to logged in users or something?

Google wanted more data than Apple was willing to give in exchange for turn by turn. Apple wouldn’t capitulate, and replaced google maps with their own mapping solution in iOS 6. It was a disaster at launch, but slowly improved over time.

As a bonus, it also promoted google to release their own google maps app, so one can argue that users won either way.

I only used Google Maps sparingly on mobile, more on the desktop browser before I’ve ever started my trek (being prepared is the moto).

Waze, ?! I feel no ways about Wayz it’s a clusterfunk if messy garbage all over the screen with its features and Google, now owning both has begun to merge the two soon enough. I’d say it’s UI looks just as bad as Windows 8 and Windows 10 Tile start menu! Gads.

schaweeet! Thanks for everyone updating us Canadians as this threads article has us quite feeling lonely and forgotten about. Phew.

I used it to go to a store around 20 mins away. I took me to an address where the building had been torn down. The store had moved 300 feet from the older store a mile away. Not even close, Apple.
Make sure to report it in Apple Maps app.

Maps has gone a good long way from its first tumbling steps. Since the release of iOS13, Maps has become my number 1 used map app. I love the way it gives me directions, which is to me a much nicer experience than both Google Maps and Waze. Google Maps is still installed for confirming POI:s and for my slow transfer of favourites to Apple Maps. Waze I used to always use when driving, but can't remember even opening it since iOS 13 was released.

Mind you, this is in Sweden, where we don't have any updated maps. Still the experience is a lot better. Can't wait for the time when we get them here. Can also not wait for speed limits visible, which is sorely missing at the moment.

POI:s is still the weak spot, but I just make sure I report the ones I can't find. Apple usually add them within a few days/weeks.

The most pointless pissing match against Google .... ever. Never play a game you can't win and certainly don't enter a game you cant win in the third quarter of play.

No, most definitely not the most pointless pissing match "ever." Many here now are perhaps too young to remember, but google's maps on iOS (back when it was installed by default) did not have turn by turn navigation. They refused to add it, until Apple released maps and they had no choice. For that reason alone even google maps users should be thankful. Competition is good, and one day you will realize that not everything is a competition that one needs to "win".

Not talking only about the Maps app, but I don't see how to check what version number of Apple apps are currently installed on your phone.

Under General Settings --> iPhone Storage, many 3rd party apps show version numbers, but not the Apple apps. Is there a way to check? Asking not just about Maps, but all Apple apps.
