“Mature audiences”. It’s the TV rating that corresponds to “R” in the motion-picture system.
Ahhhh… I didn’t get the context. Also, I don’t watch much regular TV and I don’t think they put the rating on the screen for streaming content very often if at all. I had forgotten all about that rating system. Thanks for the clarification.

Yea I wish they would make it more apparent for streaming, especially how they do for TV with the SLV underneath the rating. And even then it's hard to tell. L could be enough language to push it to MA, or they could be swearing three times a sentence. That's why R is so hard to tell too.

This show absolutely revolves around football.
“Ted Lasso” revolves around football the same way “The Office” revolves around paper.
Most people watching “The Office” couldn’t care less about the current pressures and promises of the actual paper industry, no one cares about that.
They all work for a football club, but the show is mostly about the interactions between the people.
Actual football games and such usually get relegated to a B or C plot, while the developments in the characters relationships is usually the main focus.
The show could easily take place in any other competitive environment and it’s basically the same show.
All this to say, I don’t like football at all and I love the show.

I assume you have kids? As an adult I couldn’t care less about the ratings other than the fact that they don’t make that many R rated movies anymore. I miss decent R rated movies. Some of the best movies had R ratings. That’s why Deadpool was such a breath of fresh air for a major genre movie. But I don’t really pay attention to them because I don’t have kids so I don’t have to worry about that stuff… not that I would if I did.

Ted lasso revolves around soccer like the Office revolves around an office. It’s just a setting and a premise.

I'm not sure what your point is. My point was very clear, crystal clear even. Ted Lasso revolves around football, end of story. There's no need for a deeper dive. It is funny how people are trying to argue this point, to no avail. I guess some folks just like to argue. Anyway, have a good one!

No younger anymore. Anything R it is hard to say if I will like it or not. I actually thought I wouldn't like Deadpool buy did. He was the antihero vs bad guys, and it was only sprinkled with profanity in a funny way.

“Just” a setting and a premise?

So, it doesn’t matter if it’s a football story or a courtroom drama or a space opera or a porno? Who cares what the story is about as long as there are hot actors?

No. The point was that it centers around a soccer team. Just like the office centers around an office. Many plot points of Ted lasso are motivated by the specifics of a soccer team, just like many of the plot points in the office center around office workers specific situations. It is the basic premise of Ted lasso that he is a football coach who moves to the uk to coach a soccer team… a sport and country he knows almost nothing about… and comedy ensues.

I never grasped this show (uncreative rip off of the major league film)
but watch every English Premier League match I can, that is fun!

Peacock rules!

It totally ripped off Major league. But the brilliance of it was that they didn’t make the “villain” just a comically evil person. They made the character have depth and motivation and gave her redemption arc. She became one of my favorite characters in the show. See I think that is the point of the show. To tell a funny story of people who learn from their sh**y behavior and become more supportive nicer people. Like “The Good Place” another great show.

And that‘s “not a show about football”?

and comedy ensues.
But not very often. Groucho Marx could deliver more jokes in 30 seconds than Ted Lasso does in 30 minutes.

It’s a show centered around soccer. No one here ever said it was a show about soccer. Many of the plots are derived from the soccer premise. The show “Sports Night” was not about sports. It was centered around a sports show. And it was a brilliant comedy. Also, It’s not the same kind of comedy that Marx Brothers used to do. You can’t compare the two. And comedy isn’t rated like firearms in rounds (jokes) per minute. It’s judged by if it’s funny or not… and it’s funny. It’s a comedy, and a damn popular one at that. But as is very clear by this thread, and just like everything else in life, not everyone agrees.

You must have a mighty fine razor, to split hairs that finely.

Of course, I can compare the two. It might make you uncomfortable, because modern “comedy” comes out so poorly in comparison, but it’s not my mission in life to make you comfortable.

Kinda bummed to hear it’s the last seasons, but it’s better to go out on a high note

Not a fine spilt at all. You just seem to want to be right. Even after people have explained it to you several times, you just want to argue the point. It's a simple concept. The only thing making me uncomfortable is you insistence on arguing the minutia of what I wrote. I'm just explaining something to you. You don't seem to want to listen.
Your comparison is like comparing a tractor to a Tesla. Sure they are both vehicles, but they have very different operating parameters. If you can't understand how Ted Lasso and the Marx Brothers comedy styles are different, and how their comedy beats hit differently, and how that kind of comedy would not work for this kind of show, then there is just no conversation to be had here. This is obviously not a show for you. Maybe you would prefer re-runs of the Big Bang Theory... or maybe SpaceBalls.
