ahhh yes.....the good ol' "cheaper iPhone model" rumor we've been hearing for about 5 years now....

Things change:

1)Something new: Refusal, reasons against etc.

2)People become familiar with the possible new:
I can see it if they do this etc. , but not for me

3)Maybe try it (Heard it often enough)

4)Accept it and use it

5)Can't believe that wasn't done this way long time ago

and : Always was my idea!

and don't forget, about 2-4 years later: "Apple invented bigger-than-4-inch screen smart phones" and any tangible evidence to the contrary be d*mned.

Android might have had larger screen phones - but Apple made them popular/better.

Apple didn't copy Samsung/HTC/Motorola. They could have had a larger iPhone. They chose to wait until they could do it right.

And so on.

Will there be Apple TV 4th Gen out soon? Or should I just buy Apple TV 3rd Gen anyways?

I actually think there is some potential because Apple spun shooting 60fps and 4K and rolled out wifi ac. It's hard to picture them jumping to all 3 of those in one hop but maybe.

Nevertheless, :apple:TV has a long history of looking like an update could be impending and it seeming to never arrive. If you want one, a refurb is about $85. They're not hard to sell for up to as much should a new one come out. If you "rent" one for- say- $20 until the next one comes out (selling it later for $65), it's a pretty good way to enjoy it now AND later.

Well said. I have a 720p ATV, but would rather wait for an AC release hopefully!.

So Apple sues and bashes Samsung for even thinking of making a square phone with rounded edges, then copies the entire market of phones for iOS7...

Apple comes out publicly against these massive Samsung phones, saying their current 4inch screen is "perfect for usability with one hand." Now they go against their own philosophy and consider a ridiculous 5.7" screen??

Dear God,
I know its a long shot, but you brought someone back about 2000 years ago and Apple could really use some help....

Considering the increasingly competitive environment for mobile devices, and with increasingly shorter iterations to complicate things, IMO it would be a squandering of resources for Apple to issue a 4" 5S model at this juncture. Fingerprint sensoring and faster wifi can surely wait. Apple needs to focus on recapturing hearts for their devices and for their engineering, both hardware and software. They already are on the right path with iOS 7. And with a 5.7" phablet device they'd seal their fate. But another year wait time is too long. OTOH, a $99 device this year would be welcome if that's the best Apple can do. Selfish of me because I already offered my full-price iPhone 5 to my ex, for free. :( So, a $99 price point would hold me over handsomely until the advent of the 5.7". Bring it on.

Not going to happen, a large amount of apps haven't been updated yet to support iPhone 5's screen and with the new UI changes in iOS 7 it's really unlikely Apple wants its platform to start fragmenting (like Android) with Apps that don't support Retina (a small amount but they still exist), Apps that aren't universal, Apps that don't support 4' screen and now Apps that don't support 4.7' and 5.7'.

My guess is that at least for the next 2-3 years hardware isn't going to change drastically in a way that apps need to be updated to work properly.

Screen size and resolution are two different things. They could keep the same 1138x640 resolution or even double it to 2272x1280 for the 5.7" version, it's not that much more than the 1080p screen Samsung manages to cram in the 5" S4.

Tablets have to be smaller, phones have to be bigger????? Confused, so we are going to end up with a Hybrid divice,a "phablet" or a "tabones" or something like that??

We wait until the phones are bigger than the tablets, then add software to make phone calls to the tablets and remove it from the phones. Makes perfect sense. :D

Finally! Choice! I'd love a 5.7 screen, hardly use my smartphone for calling, it's my portable mini computer.
BTW if they wait until late 2014, their market share will drop even more. Get these larger iphones out later this year.

iPad mini with VOIP for the few times you do need to make calls?

Can't wait for the 5.7" screen...and the cargo shorts apple will provide to carry it around.

I love the size of the Galaxy S4. 5 inches is a great size, I hope Apple does something near this size.

I really hope that if they make a 5.7" iPhone, they don't make it the "larger iPhone"......

In my mind, I figured they'd stick with a 4" cheaper version, the current 4" version and a 4.7-5" version......if that last one becomes a 5.7" version and the 4.7" is the cheaper one, I'll be pissed.

However, if they do something like, 4" cheaper, 4.7" regular, 5.7" larger, I could get behind that......though I still think there is a relatively sizable portion of current iPhone owners who actually preferred the 3.5" size....

EDIT: and now that I've actually read the article, going with both the 4.7 and 5.7" devices in addition to the 4' cheaper and 5S versions coming this year would work too......just worry they might be muddying the line a little bit.....

Believer of the large screen size. It's all personal preference really, I've had each iPhone and several android phones. I'm currently using the galaxy note II and thought I'd give it a try. To be honest, the size is nice and much more pocketable than I anticipated. There is definitely a market for the 5.x" phones. Release the classic 4" and thus alongside and everyone wins.

I would actually prefer it if they started doing 3.5 again. I much prefer the iphone 4 size to the 5

Agreed. The iPhone 5 just looks ridiculous. Long and skinny? An extra row of icons? Why?

Combine that with the cheap, junky, lightweight feel and it's no wonder the 5 received such a lukewarm reception.

ahhh yes.....the good ol' "cheaper iPhone model" rumor we've been hearing for about 5 years now....

And isn't it amazing how switching from a very cheap metal- Aluminum- to different colors of plastic could potentially result in a huge discount on the cheaper phone? I already know the comeback about how expensive it is to "mill" the aluminum, blah, blah, blah but it can't really be all that when you can replace a damaged case at a retail price of not that much money.

I think the cheaper iPhone is real and will probably be for emerging markets. Or, if it's rolled out here, I think it's because the subsidy providers have basically said they don't want to pay the high(est) subsidy anymore and Apple knows they can't sell as many if that subsidy is switched back to asking consumers to fully cover it out of pocket.

As pretty as the aluminum case is (and as elitest as it can make some feel to have the superior (case) iPhone that obviously cost more because it is made of aluminum), if a plastic-case iPhone rolls out at $99 or maybe even iPod prices off contract, I predict the significant downturn in volume of sales for the prettier, more elite model. Don't most of us wrap an iPhone in some kind of protective case anyway. If the iPhone experience is just about the same, why pay more for the part of the phone no one can see (inside of a case)?

but but Schiller said that the current iphone 5 screen size is perfect:confused:

They also said that about the 3.5" screen size. Steve Jobs also said that a tablet with less than 9.7" screen size would be unusable - and then came the iPad Mini.

The only back draw is that you look like a foul when making a call. It is even dangerous when making a call on the street because you cannot see the traffic coming from the side you are holding your tablet-phone.

I busted out laughing when I read this. Are you for real? 2 million people should be dead then.

I'm really glad that Apple is taking notes and giving what the consumers want.

First they've adopted Android's software with the iOS 7 and now they're adopting the hardware portion.

Google has Apple's full attention now, which is a good thing. Losing market share will do that to a company :)

You mean how its the same aspect ratio as every other smartphone out there? And how the weight actually makes it less susceptible to cracking when dropped?

And if by lukewarm reception you mean 60 million sold in just over half a year?

Ya I completely get your post.....

Take it from me: waiting for the next :apple:TV can be very frustrating. I bought the "1" the first day and then longed for a "2" for 4 years. Since you have one now, the frustration won't be as bad but those who want their first one, but want to wait for the next new one is missing out to maybe save $20. Those without one that want one should buy one. Waiting on "hobby" upgrades can be very long waits.
