I don't like the idea of a lager iPhone. As much I like like my iPhone 5 I would prefer that it was the size of the previous models.

The iPad has no cellular capabilities???????? Under wich stone have you been living the last 2 years. There are iPad with cellular capabilities in almost every country WAKE UP!

http://store.apple.com/nl/buy/home/shop_ipad/family/ipad

Clearly the point I was referring to, was native cellular voice call capability...

You are probably the only person on here that chose to read my comments this way. It is amusing that you are nit-picking my post, when it was you that made the ridiculous statement, that the S4 is not a phone, which caused my post in the first place.

Regardless of the amount of question marks you use in your post, it will not detract from your ridiculous notion that the S4 is not a phone.

For clarity - S4 is a phone, iPad is not a phone, case closed.

Which stone have you been living under the last 2 years? GO BACK TO SLEEP!

I was hoping Apple wouldnt fall into the trap that all phones must have huge screens. I have friends/co-workers who have the SGS3 and SGS4 and those things are HUMUNGOUS!! Way too big. I think 4-4.25" is a great size for a phone. If fits in your hand and pockets comfortably, is easy to use, and still big enough to show you the proper information on the screen in an easy to read manner.

I say Apple should create a huge, 5.7" phone with cheap plastic case, call it the "Apple Universe" (I mean everyone will get that Universe is bigger and better than Galaxy), and flog it. The effect: 1. Everyone who says they want a bigger phone buys it. 2. Everyone will associate "big" and "cheap". 3. Everyone who wants big and cheap buys the Apple Universe instead of Samsung Galaxy. 4. Everyone who wants small, stylish and value buys iPhone instead of Samsung Galaxy :D

If I were as secrecy-promoting as Apple, yet had to rely on third party suppliers for so many components (like Apple,) I'd regularly put out false RFQs for "reasonable but not serious" components.

"Hey, we want to increase buzz, let's put out some requests for different size iPhone screens..."

That may be true theoretically, but it's time Apple got their heads out of their butts and realized oversized screens are still selling extremely well.

What you need to know is that Apple's decisions are NEVER determined by what will sell well. Apple makes the best possible products without regard for what the beancounters and suits decide.

Or, at least, that's what they used to do....

actually, after iOS 7, FaceTime over Audio could turn the iPad and iPAd mini into larger "phones"

Because I still make a few calls a day. Apple needs to get more options out, phone use can be very different

I kind if agree. I use my "phone" much more for data. An iPad Mini that was a phone isn't all that ridiculous. Although I do like being able to put my phone in my pocket. Now if I were a woman with a purse....

So Apple sues and bashes Samsung for even thinking of making a square phone with rounded edges, then copies the entire market of phones for iOS7...

Apple comes out publicly against these massive Samsung phones, saying their current 4inch screen is "perfect for usability with one hand." Now they go against their own philosophy and consider a ridiculous 5.7" screen??

Dear God,
I know its a long shot, but you brought someone back about 2000 years ago and Apple could really use some help....

Things change. Look no further than RIM. Heck I remember when Toyota Camry and Nissan Maxima where considered cheap cars.

The iPad was said to be the perfect size and then they came out with the Mini.

Apples a tech company. They can keep or get left behind. Companies are always spinning things in the favor that they were against previously.

I'd be surprised to see a 5.7 screen but I think they're going to get close to 5" or a tad over.

This year we'll get the same 4" phone but next year I expect to see the cheap iPhone, 4" phones and a 4.x-5" phone

I bolded the key sentence though I know that even that isn't true. It's always about the money in corporations. Exceptional marketing can spin that it's not about the money but it's always about the money.

When jobs was with us, apple had been company producing premium, unique and niche products. Selling at the highest proce tags. Now, they want to integrate into third world thus sacrificing quality and being the unique, rebellious boy of the sector.

I want the old apple to be back.

This is nonsense, pure marketing spin. Apple have released and pulled products that didn't sell e.g. the iPod Hifi or The Cube.

Talk about swallowing the kool-aid.

Finally! Choice! I'd love a 5.7 screen, hardly use my smartphone for calling, it's my portable mini computer.
BTW if they wait until late 2014, their market share will drop even more. Get these larger iphones out later this year.

This is me too. I wouldn't worry about looking ridiculous talking on a huge phone because I rarely use my iPhone as a phone. I use it to check messageboards and twitter and reddit and whatever. I definitely want a bigger screen than the iPhone 5. I figured when they went bigger, the best I'd get is closer to 5", but 5.7" would be crazy. I'd have to think if I really wanted a phone that big. 4", 4.7" and 5.7" iPhones would really give great options and Apple really needs to give us larger screen options in my opinion.

I agree 2014 is to late. Tired of waiting

I bought a Surface this year(wanted Touch screen Air), next I will buy a Windows phone(Wanted bigger iPhone), this Christmas I will buy a XboxOne(Wanted Gaming and Apps on Apple TV).

Apple is moving to slow, tired of waiting.

Screen size and resolution are two different things. They could keep the same 1138x640 resolution or even double it to 2272x1280 for the 5.7" version, it's not that much more than the 1080p screen Samsung manages to cram in the 5" S4.

It could happen as they did with the iPad mini, but my guess is that they would do the same they did with the iPhone 5, increase height but not width in which case all apps must be updated once again like it happened with the 4' screen.

Personally I like the old screens and for the rest I use my iPad, I hate the idea of phones getting bigger and bigger, but if that's what people want it's going to happen sooner or later.

Apple doesn't care about "told you so" Samsung fanbois getting to smack down Apple fanbois when Apple flip flops on an argument about ideal screen sizes. Only some of us here care/worry about such stuff.

Apple wants to sell more product. Samsung and similar have shown that there is a pretty big market for people that want their phones to have screens bigger than 4 inches. Pride, contempt, etc can certainly make a business not adapt to what large segments show as desirable but that's shooting oneself in the revenue foot in exchange for very little in return. Apple likes the MONEY and has a long history of flip flopping on concepts. Apple marketing spin is negative to competitor differences only up until Apple adopts those differences; then, they're huge innovations "you'll love".

If some Samsung fanbois get a "told you so" moment, so what? A bunch of people would rather stick with Apple rather than switch to the other guys but they do crave the bigger screen. Apple can keep a bunch of customers, sell a bunch of new customers and make a lot of added revenues OR it can protect it's fans pride by prevent the Samsung fans from being able to write such posts.

This has happened over and over in the past. It's not nearly as painful as we can imagine if this particular rumor would pan out. All it is a "sticks & stones" situation: "words don't actually hurt "me"... even Samsung fans "told you so" words.

What does hurt Apple is losing business to those that won't settle for a 4" screen in spite of all of the rest of the Apple goodness. What does hurt "me" is wanting/needing a screen bigger than 4" but not being willing to leave Apple to get it (so it's just suffer without). A thousand comments about how "I" don't need a bigger screen (because "you" don't need a bigger screen) doesn't change that.

Apple never wanted to make a cheap phone... the subsidizing culture created by the big tele co's along with Android is what gave way to where Apple is with the polycarbonate phone. This has nothing to do with screen size, but everything to do with adoption on price-point. This polycarbonate iPhone wouldn't be released for awhile if Apple was smart in 2007 with their exclusivity with AT&T. This is what is giving way... it's just 6 years thereafter, and now a cheaper iPhone is 100% needed for the US & international market.

They need a cheap phone for the emerging markets, and to also slow down the subsidizing culture that has been happening for 2 or 3yrs now by Android/Google.

By the way Darryl, Apple creates markets... they don't push product for markets. And, don't say Apple is hurting when they have close to 150bil in the bank(100 offshore like they legally should). You need to look closer as to where they are now from 5(or even 10) years ago, and where they are headed. They create markets through useful products - a big iPhone isn't more useful unless there is production differentiation for it to make it MORE useful. The screen size is nothing more than a personal preference for most without hard pros or cons.

Why do you need a bigger screen? I bet you don't talk much for business... sounds like you need an iPad, maybe a mini.

Why can't Apple release a bigger screen phone this year? I really need a phone with a wider screen.

The difference?

It was Toyota's philosophy to make quality cars better and better until you see where the Camry has come today.

Apple has gone against their OWN philosophy they shoved down our throats for the past 2 years. Its ridiculous.

Here's what it comes down to...

I like using my iPhone 4S. It's just the right size and I can navigate it with one hand using my thumb. Period. Now, what I wouldn't mind is something like an iPad mini with optional phone. For as many phone calls as I make, and when I do I use a headset, the iPad mini would be able perfect ASIDE from not being able to use it with one hand. That's handy in the bathroom, bed, and everywhere else you all use your devices but don't admit :p

I wholeheartedly concur. I rarely use my phone for calls anyway. i've always loved large screens so I hope this rumor pans out!

One more thing...

I think the perfect solution is actually quite simple. Take the iPhone 5 size and make the screen go edge to edge. That would get you about 4.7" at 1280x720px. The trick then is to block out those portions of the screen with e-ink when not using full screen apps. That way you can go completely full screen for movies and games, and still use the device with one hand.

4.7 inch phone is realistic and something I Want to happen, 5.7 is kinda large for a phone but the Note 2 sells very well so I'd say Apple should do both.

Why do you need a bigger screen? I bet you don't talk much for business... sounds like you need an iPad, maybe a mini.

Why even make that bet. Even if he doesn't - there's a huge size gap between the portability of a phone vs an iPad and/or mini...
