just put the d@mn phone capability in the iPad mini and call it done. Would be Suweeeeeeet (Joe Swanson voice).

I'm not going to say I have Samsung envy. I find the android OS to be horribly forked, ugly and unintuitive. It's as if the worst aspects of IOS and BB were merged.
I do however have pretty lame eyesight, so I am jealous of Samsung users who have the larger screens.
Also there are a few apps that are iPad only that may become available on iphone if they had enough screen real estate.

Overhere the largest carrier for normal phones (KPN) has fully switched to IP-telefony, they have left the native phone calls some years ago. I bet you, that cellular phone calls will go that way very soon and will be no different than how Skype works.

This is great information, yet irrelevant to our debate . Which was, you are saying the Galaxy S4 is not a phone and the rest of the world knows that it is.

Surely you are not trying to lure me in with strawman tactics...? I am too long in the tooth for that one.;)

she choose the iPhone because it worked well and could nicely fit in her stupid small pocketed girl pants pocket

Not many people wear stupid small pocketed girl pants.

And for the majority who do not, any company that makes products solely for such a niche loses our business. Have you reviewed Apple's market share lately? The trendline is going in the wrong direction.

Dear Apple go to 4.5" and stop there. thats the best size for a smartphone.

For you. But for others the answer will be different.

Personally I don't want to see them to bigger. I don't want to see plastic etc.

I wouldn't mind, although I don't demand, for them to make a low feature phone. What I mean by that is an iPhone that is basically a phone. Some of us use our iPads so much now that we don't need our iPhone to be that smart. And our grannies etc don't need it to be that smart.

So why not a reduced feature phone that makes calls, sends texts, etc. only uses cell data for pulling voicemails and sending MMS so there's no need for huge plans. It would have the camera, contacts, perhaps calendar and reminders. Wifi for syncing to iCloud and backing up. But no App Store. Music only iPod maybe. Price run perhaps $149 no contract.

THAT kind of plan is a 'cheap' phone that might make sense to include. Rather than this rumor of a plastic based one.

Agreed. The iPhone 5 just looks ridiculous. Long and skinny? An extra row of icons? Why?

Combine that with the cheap, junky, lightweight feel and it's no wonder the 5 received such a lukewarm reception.

I don't even know what to say.

I guess not everyone can get it. Somebody has to be clueless.

Ya, but you can't fit that iMac into your pocket or jacket - or even under your arm.....

At any rate, I was simply making a statement - don't know why I get a "So?" response....

Because, you appeared to interject into a debate which 'Mr-Strawman-argument' is morphing into something else, other than his original and bizarre claim that the S4 is not a phone, but a tablet.

Apologies, if I mis-read the intention of your post.

I think 5.7" is way too big. 4.7" might be too big, but the point is Apple will give you the OPTION. Just because you hate the idea doesn't mean someone else will find it useful.

I think I'd pick up a 4.7" if Apple ever released one.

If they price it right and offer a pre-paid non-contract version for parents who don't want an expensive contract phone for their kids I can see the cheaper colour iPhone being a roaring success this Christmas.

I'd like to see a little colour in the iPhone 5s to. Ditch the two tone and go all black like the iPad mini, all white and a few other more tasteful colours. Not keen on gold but metalic blue would look nice.

Haha, ya I was just agreeing the VOIP-comments that were coming out. With FaceTime audio, this whole "use your iPad as a "phone"" thing is becoming more of a reality.

Just interesting to see how carriers react as people move to data plans and use tools like this and Google Voice on both smartphones and tablets. Maybe we get gouged more on data?

A vast majority of girls wear those pants. (Seriously, I challenge you to find a pair of pants made for girls with a pocket that could hold a GS4 and not have it stick out of the pocket/ be a huge lump on their leg) I'm just saying that if a phone company made a well performing android phone that was smaller, it would do very well. I'd say as well as any other flagship phone. I just think it funny that with all the choice of android phones out there, there isn't a high end small one.

And the iPhone easily outsells any other single phone 2:1. If apple had 15 different phone models, it would own the market. But that isn't their strategy.

Android might have had larger screen phones - but Apple made them popular/better.

Apple didn't copy Samsung/HTC/Motorola. They could have had a larger iPhone. They chose to wait until they could do it right.

And so on.

And, there will be a video where somebody demonstrates that you can reach anyplace on the screen with just 2 thumbs.
