Regardless of what any of us thinks, the truth is that there is a HUGE market out there for premium 4.5"+ smart phones (Samsung has sold tens of millions of those babies) so... why shouldn't Apple try to get a cut of that cake?

It is a shrinking market though. Samsung share prices are dropping too.
There is currently less money around, that is a fact.

Gold?? UUH! Seriously, I really hope Apple doesn't do a Gold product. Ever. Even if there's a choice of other colors. Please don't!

What's wrong with gold?
Imagine yourself by the seaside at sunset, making a long distance call to your loved one, your iPhone shining like a star in the rising darkness... :p

Cool a bigger screen will finally edge me to upgrade from my iPhone 4.
Now I just need this to actually happen and then for the jailbreak to be released.
Then apple take my money.

I thought the purpose of this "lower cost iPhone" was for it to be available with no contract. This can't be right if the prediction of a $99 price is accurate? What's the purpose of having it if this isn't the case? Rather just pay $199 to have the nicer model.

4.7" sounds plausible. 5.7"? The galaxy Note 2 is 5.5 inches and it is gargantuan.

Maybe it is actually the iPad Nano.

The new flatter (Easier to scale), more text heavy UI plus swipe navigation does point to a larger phone being in the works. The main problem with large screens on iOS is that the primary back button is always in the top left. With the swipe gesture they take care of that problem.

Sure, those screen sizes would offer choice, but they'd be terrible choices.

Apple's new campaign makes a great point. Not all options deserve to exist

No...they aren't.

It's like the press and analysts are pushing for it but no one else cares. Especially apple. Tim JUST said at all thing D that the current 5 model is as big as its gonna get.

they thought of what you "want" and what you "need" before you knew you needed it. that has been their business model for decades.

Some people just like being told what to do.

There's perfectly nothing wrong with that.

I'm just saying that if a phone company made a well performing android phone that was smaller, it would do very well. I'd say as well as any other flagship phone.

The Galaxy S4 Mini will be such a phone. As will the HTC One Mini.

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/06/12/htc-one-mini-galaxy-s4-mini-battle/

"HTC’s smaller HTC One has all along been rumored for arrival this summer though it now appears that those interested will have to wait until August to purchase it. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is likely going to arrive sooner than that. Samsung is hosting an event on June 20th where the company will likely be showing off the Galaxy S4 Mini for the first time."

5.7" hell yeah

If they made a 5.7" iphone I'd be all over it and drop my galaxy 2 for it any day of the week. For the people say 5.7" is to large of a phone need to try it before you knock them. Does my note 2 fit in my pocket? Yes! Does it work fine with one hand? Kinda, but who really gives a **** I have two hands!

To the people who think 5" + phones are too big,get your head out of your ass! And no I'mnot a fandroid, just don'thave to agree with everything Apple decides for me ;-p

Finally! Choice! I'd love a 5.7 screen, hardly use my smartphone for calling, it's my portable mini computer.
BTW if they wait until late 2014, their market share will drop even more. Get these larger iphones out later this year.

Their market share is already dropping another year of small phones is going to be rough.

Ridiculous screen sizes for a phone, 4.2 inch is the maximum size for been able to comfortable carry a phone in your trouser pocket in my opinion.

5.7 inch screen lol, I want to carry a phone around with me not a tablet.

You must be wearing skinny jeans :-/

If you actually knew what you were talking about you'd know the note 2 fits great in any real mans pockets.

I would actually prefer it if they started doing 3.5 again. I much prefer the iphone 4 size to the 5

I agree. This is just my preference (well mine, Ballis and about eleven others), but I prefer the 3.5" screen size to the 4" screen size.

I would really like to see Apple update the iPhone 4S with the lightening connector and a 4G LTE radio. The could call it the iPhone 4SL or something like that.

Since Apple has a trend of selling three versions of its phone at any one time, this would move all models onto lightening.

I don't care what anyone says. A 5.7" iPhone 6 running that totally Android-esque iOS 7 would totally pull me away from this kick*** Galaxy Note II. Even without the stylus, widgets, customization, ability to remove default apps, ability to assign new default mail/cal/etc. apps., ability to sync multiple Google Docs accounts,

All of that I'd be missing out on and I'd still get a bigger iPhone just to bring me back into the ecosystem.

Forget it! 3.5" is the best size for one-hand operation and pocketability. Anything larger is dead on arrival.

You, guys, don't know what you need! Apple KNOWS BETTER! Henry Ford once said: "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said - faster horses."

I absolutely LOVE LOVE everything Apple does!

Want big screen? Get an iPad!

Apple also said that they would never make an iPad mini because after thorough testing a 9.7" screen was perfect.

Steve Jobs said no one reads anymore. And then introduced a device and raved about iBooks.

Can't tell if your post is satire or not - so excuse my "serious" response.

4.5 or 4.7 will be a great size for the iPhone.

I never bought the iPhone 5 because the size and shape were just wrong. I would come back to the brand if this went into production.
