Didn't you hear? Apple is buying an army which will knock on every iPhone owner's door and pry their current iPhone from their hands, throw them into a van, drive them to an Apple store and force them to buy a 5" phone.

Why would they do that when we all know thy have a remote kill switch that makes all older models stop working as soon as the new one is out.

Dustbin shaped Mac Pro? Check

Basic looking IOS 7.0? Check

No new iPhone for 2013? Check

Millions of sales and downloads no matter how much folks here call them crap? Check and check

The more folks here crap on something the more it ends up setting higher records.

Lets be honest here; Apple needs bigger devices so they can fit larger batteries. From what I've seen so far, iOS 7 is a battery hog.

WTF. iOS 7 is under NDA. If you tell us anything about iOS 7, then you are either a developer in breach of NDA, or some wannabe who found a pirated copy of iOS 7, or just lying. Feel free to tell us which.

No matter what you are, you probably haven't bothered to look at the changes in Xcode 5, have you?

If they keep the 16:9 ratio it won't be proportionate to the iP4/4S. If they add size to the display, the height will scale relative to the width, so while it may be wider, it will also be taller ... the same ratio as an iP5.

Gotcha. I realized now I didn't take into account that it would get wider also.
Personally it doesn't have to be 16:9. 4.3" w/ the proportions/aspect ratio of the iP4 and I'd be happy.

The argument that Android users will move to Apple if they bring out a bigger phone is just incorrect. From my Android friends they like the bigger screen, agreed, but they like the control and customisation of Android, the ability to add custom ROMs etc, and mainly the cost of the phones. If Apple brought out a bigger screen it would not have these attributes and so will only really effect some users, by far not all.

Not all phones have Facetime, only iPhones do. And as previously mentioned, my Macbook has Facetime, does not mean it is a phone.

Hence why the word "phones" is between these things -> " "

Again, I'm not trying to get into the middle of ya'lls spat - just pointed out FaceTime Audio will make for some interesting decisions both at the consumer level and at the carrier level.

Some would easily be able to use their iPad as a "phone" (in the sense that they can message and make audio calls to all the people they'd need to).

iOS 7? You mean the BETA OS that Apple released 3 days ago to DEVELOPERS for bug testing and development?

Are you brain dead?

Apple keeps losing people who want a bigger phone.

People are using their phones for movies, browsing complex websites, cameras, all things that work better with more real estate. Android is growing and growing fast and it isn't just in the low-end market, their high-end phones are just as expensive as a new iPhone and preform just as well. Now that the phones are equal in performance and specs, a deciding factor becomes screen size.

When it comes to the high-end phones, Apple and Android are neck and neck. My gf and I just switched to Verizon from AT&T. I went from a Nexus 4 to a Note II because I wanted a larger screen than Apple offered. My gf had a 3GS and was looking at a new iPhone, but complained that the screen was too small so she got a Galaxy 3. Apple continues to lose marketshare because people want larger screens. We didn't go to Android because they were cheap, which people like to throw around on here, my Note II was $199, same as an iPhone5. And my gf's Galaxy 3 was $99, same as an iPhone 4S (both last generation phones). Both of us have been pleased as hell with our phones.

As a heavy Apple user, I am going to say this: "Steve Jobs was stubborn and had his way of doing things. Tim Cook needs to worry about his job and make the company profitable so he will do what it takes to capture more market for more profit."

Now that that's out of the way, I will also say that while 4.7" is possible, there is no way in hell Apple will come out with a phone with a 5.7" screen.

One thing everyone says about large screened android phones selling well thus bigger screens are always wanted, I offer this way to look at things. If you want an android phone that has good processor and decent battery life, you have to get a big one. Me and my girlfriend went to Verizon to look for a phone. I had her look at every single phone in the store. I showed her all of the cool android stuff and windows phone stuff and iPhone stuff. She absolutely hated windows phone, she quite liked android and iPhone. Her problem (that a ton of girls have because, to quote her, "girl pants suck") was that the only well performing android phones were too big. So she went with an iPhone.

tl;dr she choose the iPhone because it worked well and could nicely fit in her stupid small pocketed girl pants pocket

I saw a short, nicely shaped woman at a store with short shorts and had an OG Note stuck in her back pocket. I've also see friends that wear tight pants and still have the bigger Android phones. I think you unknowing or not purpose helped her decision with the iPhone.

All we're asking Apple to do is give us choices. They do on their other lines. iOS7 looks still hasn't grown on me yet but it brings them more in line with how Android, Win8 and *gasp* even BB10 operate. The next reasonable step is a larger screen

This move may attract people who buy Android 'phablets' or Android phones with larger displays to the iPhone. There's clearly a market for smartphones with larger displays.

Just like iMac, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, they have 2 different display sizes for people to choose from. Why not iPhone? About time! (though I myself prefer one-handed operation with a 4-inch display)

Apple are now trying to imitate android and windows OS's and who knows, may give people what they want with larger screens. Thing is though, if people want that now, just buy an S4 (why wait for Apple to play catch up!!!)

Finally some choice

4,7" is too big already, 5,7" is ridiculous for a phone.

I tried a Galaxy Note 2 and found its 5.6" screen to be too big. You can't comfortably use it with one hand and it doesn't fit well in a pocket, especially now that summer is here. The HTC One, with a 4.8" screen, is just the right size (to me, at least).

Apple, I'm ready to come back home and dispense with the Android nonsense. But you gotta gotta GOTTA come out with something a whole lot better than the iPhone 5.

apple always picks crap colour ways for phones etc.

Please let these colour rumours be false.

All you need is black, white, silver, red, blue, pink and maybe yellow/gold

Orange, green, purple, brown can f off.

Or just black, white or silver. There's really no real need for even two colors. If folks really can't stand Apple's single choice they can buy a case or a skin and enjoy

Is it? I left an iPhone 5 for a galaxy S4 and have ZERO issues with the size ... Quite the opposite ... It's glorious and makes the iPhone look like a toy in comparison! Don't knock it, try it!

Exactly the same feeling I had when I went from 4S to OneX. 4S looked like a toy. I wanna come back, just give me a bigger screen.

It baffles why apple fans are so against bigger screened phones. There are so many benefits to it.

Perhaps they disagree with the absolute necessity of those benefits. After all, there are benefits to owning a stretch limo but if your need is nothing more than getting from point A to point B a VW Bug works just as well.

iOS is gaining market share.

It depends how one defines market share. If looking at total number of devices sold, iOS is increasing, although not as quickly as in the past. If looking a percent compared to all devices, they are slipping. http://www.iclarified.com/30149/ios-drops-to-173-market-share-as-windows-phone-overtakes-blackberry-chart One can argue this is because more devices are being sold across the sector, but the trend appears that Apple is holding steady, which isnt a bad thing.

Everything I have seen shows that Apple still commands the high-end of the market, but Samsung is gaining. Worldwide, Samsung sells more phones than Apple. In the US, Apple sells more than Samsung. http://techland.time.com/2013/04/16/ios-vs-android/

It isn't doom and gloom for Apple as many Android fans claim, but it isn't roses and sunshine as many Apple fans say. Adding a larger screened phones seems like a smart move for Apple as more and more phones are getting larger screens.

I don't know why people are so opposed to Apple finally offering their customers a choice. Every other computer they make that includes a display comes in two sizes: iPad 7.9 and 9.7, MacBook Air 11.6 and 13.3, MacBook Pro 13.3 and 15.6, iMac 21.5 and 27

To those who say "why not get an iPad mini?" there are two reasons: 1. it's not a phone and 2. if it was a phone you'd be complaining that it's too big to hold up to your ear.

One of my colleagues at work loves having a large tablet and small phone. He feels that's optimal. I, on the other hand, want a large (not huge) phone and no tablet at all.

I think the BlackBerry Z10 is the perfect size for one handed operation, but since I tend to hold with one hand and tap with the other I'd prefer something a little bigger like the Nexus 4. I've tried the Note II and while I loved the big screen I don't think it would be very easy to carry around something that big. All the Note users I've seen are women with bags to put them in.
