You do understand that you are dissing Apple based on rumor, yes? That they haven't announced this cheap phone and may never because its not real.
That would be the stupidest thing to do and you don't need a device that's wider aspect ratio than 16:9 like the current iPhone.
Keep the same resolution at 4.7 would make 278 dpi, still enough for the "retina" claims and all iphone 5 optimized apps would work just fine. Or they can make a 5.7 and double the resolution.

Why does everyone say this...I have had every model of Iphone plus a SG3 with the supposed too large of a screen to fit in your pants pocket but its not. The SG3 actually fit better because it was large enough not to turn sideways in my rear pocket. Please stop saying a 4.7 screen is too big due to pocketability.
I surely agree with these analysts.
A phone that costs 300 $ or more is by no means a "low cost" one.
I see 250 $ as the maximum price for it, or forget the whole thing.

and your opinion is perfect for you but the rest of the millions of people have opinions too and wanting something larger than 4.2 is'nt ridiculous to them...and they are just as right as you are. if the SG3 had IOS I would have stayed with it as I dont feel the need to customize my OS. I'm a big fan of options and I wouldnt mind apple having 5 or 6 diff screen sizes, now thats not gonna happen but if it did I wouldnt be mad like some of these posters are.
The thing is though. If Apple were to do larger/various screen sizes in the near future, it would be a nightmare for the developers I would think. There could be perhaps certain apps that would be for the 5.7 inch iPhone, and some of the older apps might not get updated for the larger screens, which would lead to fragmentation.

Ok, here is my 2 cents. I don't think Apple is making a new low cost iPhone but instead it is an updated iPod.
Think about it, iOS7 will include audio only Facetime. Well the current iPod touch has the mic on the top and 1 speaker on the bottom. You would have to talk holding it in your hand like a speakerphone or use earbuds with a mic. So if they release one that's more "phone like" then the user could take full advantage of Facetime audio....and appear to just be talking on the phone.
As for the bigger iPhone...I think the iPhone 6 will in fact be bigger. I think the market is there and Apple will give the customer what it wants.

I don't see apple going larger that what they have. My god, that thing's TALL. They could keep the same height and just widen the phone out to 4:3 which is (IMHO) a much better ratio for a small device. That alone would bump the screen up to 4.3" or so. Perfect.
And? Where is your evidence to say otherwise?
Apple have not yet made a larger phone, so how can you know what they will, or will not do with it to make it a success? A success that you claim is not possible, even given current market trends that suggest otherwise.
Totally agree with the whole dev. app theory and fragmentation is what apple will never allow but if there were a way to do it, I would welcome the options.
Check out he app called Pinger. I only have an iPad now, no phone (and no $40 line fee).

The title of this thread may reveal nothing more than Apples incessant need for attention. Tiny displays are loved by the crowd who is more concerned with fancy cases, than the usability of the phone. It's hard to imagine Apple backing down over its long standing claim that the current size is perfect.

Personally I always thought the iPod Touch 3.5" display was the best form factor. Very pocket friendly and it was so easy to navigate things with one hand on the go. Unfortunately everyone seems to be moving toward larger displays.
