Just echoing a few other sentiments in here.
1) When we placed the pre-orders, there was nothing about any window. It was fair to expect that placing an order in the first couple minutes would secure a watch on launch day. Every other Apple launch has been so, down to Apple overnighting shipments to get them there on time. This time we were greeted with a two week window - post order. So don't go saying "you bought it knowing it might not show up on launch day". No, we did not. Even with the window post-sale, it was reasonable to assume Apple would still ship on time.
2) The "working on your order" e-mail is an utter kick in the teeth. Here we are, excited to get shipment confirmation, and an e-mail shows up "Apple Watch Order W******". Yes! My trac.... videos and information. That sounds vaguely apologetic, like "sorry we screwed up". Show of hands how often we've seen Apple do something like *that* before?
Quoting another, this is probably the most infuriating:
"3) People in later shipping windows, with the same SKUs, that ordered later --- ARE ALREADY GETTING THEIR SHIPPING INFORMATION AHEAD OF EARLIER PURCHASERS. Supply constraints are understandable. But please fulfill orders in the order they were received, not all caddywhompus golden ticket style."
I bought at 2:02am CT (two minutes after they went on sale, and about one minute after the store actually went online), 42mm stainless steel, black sport band. I'd have thought buying in the first 120 seconds would get me a watch launch day. Apparently not - but people who ordered the next day are.
This is the first time I've been part of a big new product since my Intel MacBook Pro in 2006. I waited years for the iPhone, I waited years for the iPad. This time I really wanted to be part of that leading edge. If it's not here on Friday I'll just cancel my order and let someone else have it, and I'll get one this summer when supply has eased and I can just walk into a store and walk out with it.
