Is anybody else facing a buggy and unstable Face ID when unlocking the phone?
I have an iPhone 17 pro max, and it’s a 50/50 chance if Face ID will unlock my phone. It often requires me to enter my passcode.
Face ID is rock solid and working in every app where I have it activated, it only affects the Unloxk phone feature. I’ve tried resetting my Face ID, restarting and every other good advice, but about 50% of the times it simply will not unlock my phone. Given that it works for Apple Pay and other apps, I assume it’s a bug in the software and not a hardware issue.

I have no issues with faceid on my 17PM, no miss yet. Since you tried resetting it, I'd exchange it.

I started getting faceid issues on my 13PM 2.5 years in, like you worked only half the time, got it replaced under AC+

Hopefully this will fix my iPhone 15 Pro being insanely laggy since I updated 19 days ago.
Thats interesting because ios 26 has been smooth as butter for me on my 15 Pro, really snappy, for which i am quite surprised. Only updated from ios 18.7 because of Apple watch ultra 3, otherwise would have waited until 26.3 probably.

Thanks for replying… I’ve been considering exchanging it - but since it works in every app (and sometimes when unlocking the phone), I’ve been thinking that it not a hardware problem but a software problem

Trying to select an exact color for anything is annoying as hell! I finally loaded up Paletton, figured out the color I wanted, and then copied the RGB hex code. Perfect on try one.

(I have no connection to Paletton. I've just been using it for years. :D)

I noticed that Face ID is a tad slower but I haven’t been unable to unlock my iPhone with Face ID.
I think there’s a bug with Face ID as i haven’t been able to unlock my iPhone with Apple Watch or Vision Pro

I wish apple would clarify exactly how long this is going to last?

“Immediately after completing an update, particularly a major release, you might notice a temporary impact on battery life and thermal performance. This is normal, as your device needs time to complete the setup process in the background, including indexing data and files for search, downloading new assets, and updating apps.”

How long is a “temporary impact?” Does this mean like a couple hours? Or does it mean random hearing up doing basically nothing for many days after the update which is what has been happening on my 14 pro. I went as far as to wipe my phone and restore from back up from my Mac and the issue remains. I’ve never had this problem this long after any iOS update up until iOS 26. I just wish there was some more transparency with what the heck is actually going on? We are left in the dark.

Could they at least implement a status bar somewhere in the settings app showing the progress of the “indexing” and an estimate of when it will be complete? Would this be hard to do? It’s really annoying having my phone so hot and stressing me out! Some people on here say “give it a week”. Some day “mine is fine”. I’m really hoping there is some notes in the bug fix noting thermal performance because something weird is definitely going on. Really regretting updating so far. Of course my sons 17pro is nice and cool while my 14 pro is cooking all the time.

Yeah, I’ve seen others say the same. Seems that post-upgrade indexing isn’t completing for some people. I can’t search my messages from before September on my 15 Pro. I was running the public beta on my M4 iPad Pro and have had no issues on there

But, you have to unlock the phone before using any app?!
well, assuming this 26.01 comes out in the next couple days, you can of course give that a try.

I am so annoyed with the wifi drops, if this isn't fixed within the next couple days, I'll return my 17PM before the 14 day return window closes, got mine on launch day at the Apple Store.

Agreed. Apple isn't leave us much choice, since they aren't saying anything about the Wifi/Bluetooth/Carplay issues.

I think we have to assume if 26.0.1 isn't released soon and fix the issues, that either it's a hardware problem or Apple may address the issues with 26.1 someday. Either way, we are better off returning the phone while we can, instead of guessing.

I get this once a day on 17PM and iOS 26…

And I’ve not changed my passcode, nor have I ever seen this on previous devices/OSes.

Just curious, is it downloading your photos or do you have Optimize iPhone Storage turned on?

I’m sorry you’re having an issue like that. You already tried a restore.
I assume you’ve done a reboot.
The only other suggestion I’ve read is to keep it plugged in when practical so it can devote full power to the tasks it’s performing.

yup.
I actually thought I did not have the CarPlay issue as I had no drops, but then today I pulled into the garage and wanted to change some setting on my car via a remote app, sure enough, I unlock the phone, and wifi to CarPlay drops.
I very rarely use my phone while driving so just hadn't noticed it.
And yes, U2 on watchOS 26 too

I do not use photos in the cloud at all. It’s turned off.

how did you set your phone up? restore from backup, iCloud or Mac? or as new?
I'd suggest to actually change your passcode and see if that fixes, and secondly, reset faceid and set it up again.
Or just wait for apple to fix. Or return the phone (Friday deadline).

MacRumors has also seen evidence of iOS 26.0.1 in its visitor logs in recent days, as Apple's software engineers test the update internally.

iOS 26.0.1 will likely address a handful of software bugs and issues:
Too bad … i was hoping the UI legibility issue would be solved by changing the Reduce Transparency toggle to a slider with 100% at On and 0% at Off.
