Probably best if you've been holding out to upgrade to just pick up a used, refurbished, or close-out higher-end 2015 model.

It's like Apple is doing this to kill the Mac. They'll lower their sales numbers to the point that they can say in interviews "The Macs just weren't selling well anymore, so we decided to make a really tough decision and get behind iOS fully as the future of our platform across all devices."

The Mac is the backbone of everything creatives like me do. If I had to pick one Apple device that I'd have to use forever, it would be my Mac. It's how I get work done. It has the power and software capability to push through my workflow like a boss. Without the Mac, I would be in a world of hurt.

If you don't mind me asking what type of professional creative work do you do? Because all the Adobe software runs far better on the surface devices than the 5k iMac I have.

Unless you live in the UK, where the exact same product now costs £250 more than it did before the announcement... 10/10 Apple.

Just bought one from John Lewis at the old price.

It was always a toss up between a new MBP if the spec and price were right, or getting a refurb, but I'm not paying £700 for a touch bar when I'll never use the 'old' spec to its full potential.

So a new, old model it is! (Free 3 yr warranty, too)

I'm a photographer and all round artist. I've been using Macs for the last 16 years. In England I've been buying the 15" normal spec Apple laptop (ie mid-level) for 15 years. First 8 years the machine stayed the same price, think it might have actually decreased at one point. There was a price hike by £500 with the new retina screens and SSDs from £1500 to £2000. That's a lot of money, but the screen upgrade was huge as was the speed upgrade with SSDs. The normal spec 15" model is now £700 more than before. £700. New touchbar- £700. So now for what I consider a normal level working laptop for professionals- £2700.

You're insane. I gave up waiting for this to come out in June. Wow am I glad I bought a second-hand mid 2014 rMBP instead. Sliding further and further Apple. No longer a computer company- this is basically your new phone and my word, there's not many people who'll be able to afford it. I really don't wish you well Apple, you've continued to go too far while your software gets worse and worse by each iteration and now with these prices- you're off the chart.

Shame on this company that started with a few hippies and is now the very epitome of the Corporate Tax Dodging Elite.

Simplify your damn product lines Apple.
Two product lines probably would be ideal. Three in a transition phase (eg, towards retina) are probably ok as well. But offering four different 13" laptops* and total of five laptop product lines** is insane. Hello Dell, hello 1990s pre-Jobs Apple.

Apple was too cheap to develop a proper 13" MacBook (ie, retina screen, tapered design) and instead is offering a de-contented 13" MBP (minus the touch bar and minus two USB-C/TB3 ports). And for some reason the MBP price had to go up and to keep offering something at the previous price points, last years models are kept around.

*13" MBP -- 13" 2015 MBP -- 13" 'entry' 2016 MBP -- 13" 2016 MBP
** MacBook One -- MBA -- 2015 MBP -- 2016 'entry' MBP -- 2016 MBP

My next laptop will definitely be a Windows laptop which has all ports I need and does not cost a ridiculous amount of money...

I boight a better spec'd windows lapstop last month for £600.

I have absolutely no idea why anyone would buy this new mbp...

Is MacOS worth £2000 extra, plus less hardware and ports.?

While new MacBook Pros with faster specs and a Touch Bar launched earlier today, Apple continues to sell base model 2015 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pros on its website for the same entry-level prices of $1,299 and $1,999 respectively.

How does the processor compare between the March 2015 13" macbook pro and the October 2016 13" macbook pro (no touchbar)? Is it the same processor? Did they update the processor?

And, in terms of **LONGEVITY**, how would those compare to the April 2016 Macbook Air 13" with the 2.2ghz processor?

Now I'm a teacher, so here are the K12 education prices that I am comparing:

$1199 Mar 2015 Macbook Pro 13" 2.7ghz (128gb)
$1079 Apr 2016 Macbook Air 13" 2.2ghz (128gb)
$1449 Oct 2016 Macbook pro 13" (non-touchbar) 2.0ghz (256gb)

I'm trying to buy the best value for the longest life that I can get. All three are doable but I had originally planned to buy the Air for $1079, so the extra money comes out of saving for other things.

Help is appreciated.

I have the 2015 Retina MacBook Pro which has all the ports I need. So I won't be needing a new laptop soon. But I believe my laptop is worth the price because it has everything I need. The new MBP on the other hand is just shocking... What were they thinking?

Someone needs to write an open letter about the price point that they use for the new MacBook Pro model... They still selling the SAME model (2015) with the SAME price ! Greedy Beast Company. Another thing, please simplify your product line. It's a mess. Tim Cook, what have you done to the great company. *cry*

In Canada the base model went up $250 to $1550,
The new MacBook Pro with function keys is $1900.
My current MBP motherboard died and I need a new one.
As a loyal user for 15 years with over 20 apple devices at present time, I think I'm going to wipe my hand of apple, they are pricing themselves out of business.

I wish people would just be reasonable and stop buying Apple for a while. They have clearly lost their mind and need a reality check. At this point its almost offensive how full they are of themselves

- sent hypocritically from my iPhone 7 Plus

Strongly agree. When they raise the price of 9.7 iPad (base model from $499 to $599). I said it is insulting to customer that they add "Pro" to the name and expect me to pay an extra $100. And I would never buy an iPad unless price drop back to $499 for base model or new features added to justify the price increase.

Now add MacBooks to that list.

Check out Asus ZenBook, LG Gram, Acer Aspire S7, HP Spectre and the MS Surface Book. Some beautiful and powerful Laptops. Great prices and upgradable. And then visit some Hackintosh instruction sites. You will save half the prise.

Part of that price increase is due to the fall of the pound. You cannot blame Apple for that, only the people who thought that leaving the EU would actually solve anything beyond giving you a warm fuzzy feeling.

Not dropping the prices is asinine .

They've dropped prices for previous macbooks and ipads when new models get released. WTF

If you don't mind me asking what type of professional creative work do you do? Because all the Adobe software runs far better on the surface devices than the 5k iMac I have.
Graphic design for web and print. Interface design for web and apps. RAW photo editing for print and web. Occasional video editing. Web development including HTML, CSS, LESS, SASS, PHP, JS, and MYSQL. I'm pretty much the only visual creative for an in-house marketing team (sometimes we contract out if I'm too busy), as well as the only programmer aside from a coworker who does HTML and some CSS (and we contract out for iOS dev). I've done freelance on the side since college, ranging from wedding photography, to branding, to full stack web development.

I just don't think I could ever go back to Windows. I've got everything just so. For design and editing I regularly use Photoshop, Lightroom, and Illustrator, less frequently use Indesign, Sketch, Briefs, After Effects and Premiere. For development I use Coda, CodeKit, Terminal, MySQLWorkbench, MAMP, Virtual Box and lastly Xcode to test iOS app builds that my external app dev team sends so I can test my designs and the usability of the implementation of my designs. For utilities I can't live without MagicPrefs with my Magic Mouse which is assigned a bunch of gesture-based shortcuts. As for other utilities and apps, I use Dropbox, Droplr, Duet Display, 1Password, Paste, Bartender, Better Snap Tool, Carbon Copy Cloner, ImageOptim, Kaleidoscope, Daisy Disk, Gemini, Calcbot, Xscope, Scala Preview, iStat Mini, Text Wrangler, Deliveries, Fantastical, Tweetbot, and Pocket. Some of those apps I don't use as often, but they're important when I need them. I make heavy use of built-in apps like Notes, Reminders, and Messages throughout the day. I often have dozens of apps running at a time, jumping between multiple projects or entire projects where I'm pretty much doing every part of it as I go, so things like Exposé and Spaces are really important to me, love Notification Center, and I use continuity a fair bit.

So yeah, I've become pretty heavily invested for many years since switching to Mac back in design school and it would really suck if I had to switch again. All I remember from my Windows days were headache after headache doing crap like rebuilding registry hives and creating custom batch files to remove viruses that the virus software couldn't get and fiddling with CPU and memory voltages in the BIOS because it would get too hot or constantly upgrading nvidia graphics drivers or removing bloatware that would come along with a lot of software installs like Java or having to replace faulty power supplies. It's probably better nowadays but I'm likely scarred for life, lol. For now my machines are running ok for what I do, especially my more beefy iMac at work that has upgradeable RAM, but I worry about the near future.
