"Bought some Apple stock... from here on out everything I post is from the point of view of a shareholder."

Since you don't give a flying f about the products, only the sock price, why should anyone care about your opinions regarding Apple products?
We own the company...of course we care about the products.

I've already bought my last apple products. Macbook pro? Too expensive and doesn't work well. Iphone? Give me a break.
I'll keep buying used or no name. osx used to be reliable to the point of insanity, now it's garbage. windows 10 is better.

There has to be a German word for that syndrome where people who continually claim that they’re done with Apple because Apple is so awful or Tim is too political or they can’t replace their MacBook Air SSD with one they found on craigslist feel the need to constantly hang around here to remind us how they no longer have any interest in anything to do with Apple.

Jeff knows the games he's been playing with supply and pricing. Aluminum is now a second-tier metal at Apple when everyone knows it's more expensive than steel.

Apple wants to convince X and Watch buyers that they have the premium steel when Apple is saving money and making a flimsier product.

Apple COO Jeff Williams spoke at Elon University on Friday, Feb. 22 and spoke of his history in joining Apple in 1998. The Times News covers his talk in detail. Williams also took questions from students in the audience. One student asked Williams if Apple had any plans to reduce prices considering the seemingly large margins on Apple products based on analyst reports.

Williams dismissed those reports, suggesting the actual cost of development isn't considered:He goes on to explain that to build the Apple Watch's activity tracker, Apple built a physiology lab with 40 nurses and 10,000 participants. Still, Williams conceded it's an area that they are paying attention to:The Times News article goes on to cover Williams' talk about his reasons for joining Apple back in 1998, as well as how it feels to be part of a company that has been so successful.

Pricing on Apple's flagship phones has been cited as a factor in iPhone sales underperformance in the last quarter. Apple's flagship iPhone has increased in price over the years with the most recent iPhone XS Max starting at $1099.

I Don’t blame the Apple, if people are paying the current price then why would you lower it. Economics101 for crying out loud.

OK, other than maybe the MacBook Air which I would assume was not intended to be easily upgradeable, when did Apple, before Cook became CEO, did not offer at least one MacBook or MacBook Pro that the memory, drive and battery were not easily replaceable?

by Apple's own service department?

Steel - heavy! Not as strong as Aluminum-Magnesium alloy.

Even automobile manufacturers are using aluminum when they can, not just in the chassis but also the engine.

Kids in school know this.

“Waah. Apple under Tim Cook has continued trends that started at apple with the Lisa but I don’t like it because of Tim Cook’s politics and also I have no sense of history and think all of this is new. Waaah.”

I think this is a right wing talking point. They hate Tesla and Apple because they use aluminum which is not manly enough or something. Someone called me an “NPC” in another thread. I have no idea how these people even think chemistry and physics work.

Obviously I meant by an end user in the context of my post that preceded the one you quoted. But I would expect that even a large portion of Apple’s own service department could not even do the replacements (without also replacing the main logic board) unless they have PCB rework stations in the Apple stores.

Just wait until Apple introduces a folding iPhone for $2000+

No. Apple has to up Samsung there, it will cost $3200 plus AC+ before tax!

Apple will tout how great and bigly the ASP (or per unit profit) is for this "landmark" discovery product.

Hah hah because APple is expensive! Hadn’t heard that before.

Their profit margin has been steady at 38-39% even after the recent price increases. I suspect that they have quite a lot of other expenses in creating their products lately.

I got what you meant.

This is my biggest gripe - the entire precious motherboard is useless if the SSD or memory goes in the bin since they started soldering the components like the SoC.

I bet that you haven't heard that specific piece.:p

Funding car development isn't cheap. Gotta fill those coffers somehow.

That really is the bottom line. All companies (at least try to) price at what the market will bear. Who wants to leave money on the table?

Apple has plenty of customers who think Apple offers the best combination of hardware, OS, software, usability, ecosystem, warranty, quality, privacy, reliability, security, etc. and are willing to pay for that which they value.

Those who complain Apple products are “overpriced” are ignoring the most obvious proof that they’re wrong: 900 million active iPhones, 1.4 billion active devices.

Sure, Apple’s prices are high. But they (apparently) aren’t too high. Too high for some buyers, sure.

So why does Apple make the case of the more expensive Apple watch with the sapphire crystal out of stainless steel if it isn’t as strong as an aluminum alloy?

It doesnt scratch as easily and it looks shinier (watches are a fashion thing). Different metals have different properties. Strength is only one relevant property of materials.

The $500+ watch category all have Sapphire crystal, and stainless steel is very pretty.

Aesthetically much better than the aluminum watch anyway of the week.

This guys is a horrible executive. So Apple has large fixed development costs. (Just like Samsung and every other tech company). So Apple wants to crank up the price, revenue drops as customers leave the ecosystems and total contribution margin drops.

Nice one buddy.

Apple premium was a price I was happy to pay when I was getting reliable hardware, software, and great utility. Now we get outdated processors on MacBooks, old tech in Mac pros, ancient tech in Mac mini, useless speakers that sound great but only work with Apple Music (unless you use airplay), and watch android dominate most of the world (except japan and USA)

Go Apple executives! (Over paid school boys who are lost without jobs whipping them into shape)
