Actually, I think it is pretty great!

It is a FREE album that takes up virtually ZERO space on your device. Apple over estimated the intelligence and sanity of some of it's customers.

Or underestimated the modern and good taste. Anyhow, they should do this with some of those stock apps too.

Ungrateful??

For Apple violating my privacy and inserting something into my iTunes library without my permission? I wouldn't want someone to come in my house and set up a new bookcase without my knowledge, either. Even if it is "free". If that makes me ungrateful, then so be it.

Yeah I hated when Windows forced that Sample Music into Windows Media Player when I installed it. Who likes Beck???

Exactly. Make the album iTunes only for the first few weeks. Make it free, fine. Just don't push it to people's iTunes library when they didn't ask for it.

As someone who doesn't really care about U2, I don't really understand the fuss tbh. I think people are just making a stink because they can.

Maybe if Apple got with the present rather than 5 years ago and offered 32gb as entry level storage on their iDevices, or indeed the option of an SD card it wouldn't matter. But since they're tight, money-grabbing bastards in this area space is at a premium for many and they might not want some crappy, past-it, political wankers of "rock" album in place of some music they might actually like.

Pull yourself out of Apple's backside for a moment and pretend they were Samsung forcing music onto people's devices, you'd be singing a completely different tune.

Funny because this is frequently an argument that extreme Apple fans use against Android fans: "so many Android phones have junk apps!"

This is the EXACT SAME IDEA.

So, no it doesn't take up space, but the fact it was a marketing deal that was forced to users is the problem.

Wow. People are really this ungrateful.

Hi - Just don't play it - people are truly ungrateful - I am happy as can be - I won't have to pay $10 for a U2 album I would have ended up purchasing anyway.

People complaining about a free album is the definition of a first world problem.

Oh, and there is no such things as free. The cost of this is worked into the cost of the hardware and software somewhere along the line.

You live an easy and care-free life if you have enough time and energy dedicate to complaining about this.
Yes, I do, we all do. You're saying this to somebody on a forum about expensive gadgets.

And to me this is really about dignity and autocracy (again, I know these words are a bit too much in this case, but there are no weaker ones that say the same thing). I decide what I want and what I don't want, and I won't get on my knees just because somebody offered me something for free. And I know it's not important, but I stand for myself always, whether it's important or not. It's about integrity.

So next time, if Apple makes a deal with Verizon to auto install VZ Navigator on iPhone 6... you won't complain right?

Because... first world problems...

Wow....Who doesn't like free stuff?

But I guess there could an issue if you really despise U2.

Very true. Personally while I'm sure I've heard some of their songs, I wouldn't know it if I did. I have nothing against them, but if it were say, Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber being pushed onto my iPhone taking up 100s of MegaBytes of space that I could otherwise use for [insert joke here], I'd actually be pretty upset.

I'd also feel like my iPhone had been sort of violated.

You are comparing someone breaking into your house with Apple giving you a free, albeit crappy, album?

Its like Apple flew an F16 over my house and inserted a 2000 lb bomb in my chimney. That make about as much sense.

If I broke into Apple's servers and inserted some code, how would that be viewed? Today, electronic accounts are treated very similar to physical locations in our society. It's illegal to break into a company's servers just like it's illegal to break into their store. I'm NOT saying Apple did anything illegal - just explaining why....YES, I'm comparing someone breaking into my house with Apple messing with my iTunes account.

This is the kind of thing you complain about when you wake up in a good mood, there's no line at Starbucks and the barista spells your name correctly. The weather outside is perfect and your house is all clean and sparkly. That's when you're sitting there thinking to yourself, how can I include a little drama into my day?

I am pretty sure your explanation made your statement even sillier....

Like I asked in another post.

RIIIIGHT.

This. Is. The. Same. Exact. Thing.

A marketing DEAL to FORCE something on users. Period.
