It's unbelievable how people complain about free music from a great band.

I guess you can never make everyone happy.

Well, a step closer to that lofty goal would have been to give everyone a code to redeem and let them choose whether to redeem it or not. Yes, you would then have people unhappy about not being able to redeem the code for a different album from a band they like better than U2, but at least you haven't gone and monkeyed with people's accounts without their permission.

Why on earth would you disable reverse scrolling?

Not everything works well with it, but everything works with regular scrolling, and the rest is only what you're used to (and normal scrolling was always the standard). For example, reversed scrolling down a page is supposed to be as if you're pushing up the page itself, but it doesn't make sense with something like zooming in Google Maps.

I was born in the 70's, I love rock music - bands like AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Guns N' Roses, Rage Against the Machine, Metallica... All of my era, yet I hate U2's music. It's just people's personal preference. Bono is also a smugtard.

Until members of The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are no longer alive, U2 isn't even the best band that exists or partially exists, much less the best of all time.

Yes, it is my opinion, blah blah. U2 over The Beatles or Led Zeppelin is laughable - I'd bet Bono and The Edge would agree too. Go watch "It Might Get Loud" and see The Edge and Jack White drooling over every word by Jimmy Page the way anyone else would drool talking to them.

Wow....Who doesn't like free stuff?

But I guess there could an issue if you really despise U2.

Music is like food - I'll pay for a good meal before I eat free McDonalds.

U2's album is free, but it's also garbage. Don't want to listen to it and would rather pay for good music.

how would u like it if justin bieber's album was on your phone? driving down the road with your favorite tunes and bam! oh baby baby baby...

There are worst things in life than getting a free Bieber album. Sometimes you have to take step back and really think what matters. What makes you happy and what is worth getting upset about. Even if Apple gave a free Bieber album, it's not something that can get me agitated.

Then I wouldn't listen to it and hide the album in the purchase list which is really easy to do already.

People are acting like Apple forced them to listen to it.

Even if you don't listen, it's now in your Genius history as well now - even if you never listened to U2 or similar bands before, now your Genius recommendations are going to be skewed. That's the underbelly of this marketing "freebee".

If it was just free to download for a month, they wouldn't have this forward going bias working for them. By pushing it to everyone's account, everyone automatically "likes" U2 in their ratings.

If they wanted to give everyone the album for free, why not just make it free and let people "buy" and download it themselves? They do that for the free apps/songs of the week.

It was the force-pushing it into everyone's purchase history and iTunes libraries that was the problem.

Wow. People are really this ungrateful.

I don't think it's ungrateful. I don't want this album because I don't like the genre. I didn't make a big stink about it because I figured I could just delete it. That doesn't make me (or others) ungrateful. I just like different music.

Again.... the TYPE of music is not the point. The POINT is that a MARKETING deal between APple and U2 forced a product to consumers.

This is the EXACT same deal with Android phones with carriers like VZW where they make Marketing deals to FORCE apps like VZ Navigator on to their phones. This is OFTEN used as a debate point on the Apple side AGAINST Android phones.

THIS IS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE.

Give an album for free. People will whine that they don't want it.

Don't give an album for free. People will whine that they have to pay for it.

Welcome to our age, the age of whiners.

They aren't. They are optional downloads. How dense are you?
This is not "crapware".

Yes it is. Sure, you have to "opt to download" but it's automatically in your iCloud account to begin with. I didn't OPT INTO THAT.

100% Crap Ware. Period.

Same method

Same methodology

Same marketing tactics.

Period.

But hey... if you're fine with this, don't use the "CRAP WARE ON ANDROID" excuse or complain if ever in the future, Apple decides to make a deal with Verizon to auto install VZ Navigators on all phones.

Those Big Ego types think everyone looks up to them. They also blend well with Apple's culture of superiority, ego centric narcissism. Mix that in with Apple's desire to control everything while sucking people's wallets dry and you have a very clever behind the scenes scheme that the masses aren't smart enough to see.

Apple's always been extremely clever with their hidden agendas. You didn't really believe they made the massive amounts of money they have without getting over on the customers did you?

Wow. People are really this ungrateful.

I don't think it's so much about being ungrateful but that Apple decided to push this album to everyone, rather than make it available for download if one wants.

The Apple-U2 deal is between them, the users have nothing to do with it, so why should users be forced to have the album on their devices?

This issue isn't about U2 or the album, it's about forcing things upon users.

Think of cellphones a decade ago, bloated with carrier software which you couldn't remove. Apple was the one who did away with that, and made a 'one OS for all' with the ability to install apps you wanted. But now they're doing exactly what they set out to defeat.

Actually, I think it is pretty great!

It is a FREE album that takes up virtually ZERO space on your device. Apple over estimated the intelligence and sanity of some of it's customers.

...because we don't like U2? LOL!

Oh. I wish I had known I was both dumb and insane.

P.S. Oh, re: the underlined, in this instance, it is "its" not "it's" that you want to use, oh intelligent, sane one. :D

U2 is one of the greatest rock bands of all time, and an argument could be made that they are indeed the greatest.

If you don't like U2's music, then there is something wrong with you. This is what happens when an entire generation of kids grows up on Britney spears and Justin Bieber. No wonder the millennials are the worst generation in US history.

To be fair, I'm a millennial I hate Britney Spears and Justin Bieber just as much as I hate U2.

Because (for the 50th time), this was forced on the user. Just like VZW does with VZW Android phones: FORCE APPS ON USERS like VZ Navigator.

Don't complain in the future if Apple starts doing that.

w00master

Sir, no offences but I think we get your point with VZW...;)
Personally, I think your example is a bit of a stretch but none less, I would be mad if Apple would start doing that. I would surly delete the app ASAP and I would move along. It would certainly not keep me awake at night.

So you realize that it's opt-in but still go on to say that it's the "same method" (which it clearly isn't).
Make up your mind son.

Question...when it's added to your library does it take up space on the phone? Or is it just to stream? If it takes up no space, I guess I don't see what the big deal is

I wish they would extend that tool so that I can delete anything from my iTunes library rather than simply being able to hide it.
