U2 is one of the greatest rock bands of all time, and an argument could be made that they are indeed the greatest.

If you don't like U2's music, then there is something wrong with you. This is what happens when an entire generation of kids grows up on Britney spears and Justin Bieber. No wonder the millennials are the worst generation in US history.

LOL, Not even close.

I agree with the malware comment. This album is terrible. U2 pulled off an amazing con by selling this for $100 million. It's so bad, I bet they were approached to make an album first, they signed the dotted line, and then this is the result...can't even give it away for free (thank you for the removal tool).

Confusing

The real problem with this album is the convoluted way Apple is sending to users. When you launch iTunes and check the "Purchased" option in the left sidebar the album doesn't show up. You have to go to the iTunes Store and the very bottom of the Home page and choose "Purchased" there. Then you have to click on the "Cloud" badge on the album its self. If you have automatic downloads set on you device it may just show up on your device.
Wouldn't it have been so much easier for Apple just to have labeled the album free, right in the iTunes Store. Then a user could decide if they wanted it, instead they made it throughly confusing. Very un-Apple like.

Wow. People are really this ungrateful.

Exactly my thought. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth.

If Apple gave me a free copy of Britney Spears' new album I wouldn't ever listen to it but I wouldn't complain. It's free people.. just wow.

:apple:

Unbelievable!!! What next?...sneaking Justin Bieber into my iTunes library?

Shame on Apple for pushing ANYTHING into someone's iTunes library without first asking.

People talk about ungrateful, but my objection to U2 is more than that: these are tax evading, egotists. The tax evasion can only be for 1 of 2 reasons: 1, that they are hypocrites that want to maximise their own personal wealth; or 2, wealthy philanthropists that believe they know better how to spend their money and should therefore not be subject to the rules put in place by the democratically elected government - the voice of the people.

Democracy may not be perfect, but bypassing it because they're rich enough just makes U2 modern day barons.

They make my blood boil and I don't want a reminder of them every time I browse my iTunes library.

Wow. People are really this ungrateful.

Nobody asked for this album, Apple just assumed everybody wanted it and forced it on everyone.

I find it highly offensive to have this trash on my device and think it was poor of Apple to allow this in the first place.
If they had given everyone the opportunity to download it or add it to their library if they wanted then it would have been fine but pushing it on people was a cheap trick.

For those saying "stop complaining"

This is iTunes spam. It's unwanted marketing content that is being delivered without the users knowledge or permission.

It should be treated like any other spam complaint. x 100 million devices.

Kinda like Apple?

We're aware of the problem. Use Apple's tool to remove it and move on. They won't make the same mistake again.

The only reason I am interested in this tool is bc it didn't download part of a song and every time I restart my phone now it asks if I want to retry bc a prior download didn't complete. I click retry and it has continued to ask at every retstart since even though it has now downloaded. Just used the tool and it is still doing it. Hoping this is related to iOS 8 since the tool didn't take care of it. Annoying at best. So for that I say Thank You U2 and Apple. :(

So this tool means you can't get it for free in the future?

Why not just 'hide purchase'. That's what I did
Open itunes > ITUNES STORE> 'Quick Links' PURCHASES> choose item and click the X on the right. VOILA!

That would make too much sense. Some people just love to go ******* over nothing. Really annoying.

Correct steps to rectify situation:

1. Develop some taste
2. Download album
3. Enjoy album

or ...

1. Complain about unwanted iTunes SPAM that was pushed on you without your permission.
2. Wait for others to complain
3. Use the Removal tool Apple creates after they realize how stupid it was of them to do this in the first place.

also Bono has been living inside your phone for years already.

No. Apple avoid tax because they are a global corporation that generates profits in every corner of the world through subsidiary companies that are domiciled outside of the US, but the US government insists on getting its cut because they have a presence in the US. Apple chooses to keeps these funds offshore and to invest them back into R&D.

U2 move funds away from their place of origin to avoid tax, whereas Apple do not import foreign funds into a US tax system. Not quite the same.

But I am not saying Apple are wonderful and faultless, just that they are not bad enough to enrage me!

It is a FREE album that takes up virtually ZERO space on your device. Apple over estimated the intelligence and sanity of some of it's customers.

Yes but why this album. It's not to my taste and yet all of a sudden it's on my device. What if this suddenly happens every apple event.

Regardless of whether it was free or not I think Apple are missing a trick if a user has to actively do something to get the device back to how they wanted it.

If it had been free on iTunes for download rather than essentially being 'auto-purchased' for every user that would have been better!

Though now i come to think of it, could this app be hacked to wipe all of U2's music from existence?

Because, if you use iTunes Match, even "hiding" items DOES NOT remove them from view in your iTunes library and on your iDevices.

If Apple gave me a free copy of Britney Spears' new album I wouldn't ever listen to it but I wouldn't complain.

Even if it downloaded automatically, and you couldn't remove the listing from your iTunes library?

It seems as this whole spectacle basically (and unsurprisingly) boils down to jealousy.
The problem doesn't seem to be the gesture itself, but the fact that the album was by U2.

People recognize that there are other people out there who actually like U2 and virtually received free money by not having to purchase the album. People then feel cheated because it wasn't their favorite artist so they could also save some cash.

We see similar behavior any time a popular paid app goes on sale and people feel ripped off for paying full price because others got a good deal. As if someone else spending more or less money somehow affects their own purchase.

Self-entitled, ungrateful loud-mouths on the Internet. Nothing new to see here. Move along.

Ungrateful? No one asked for the album. What if it was some country music or rap or something you don't like.

i would just uncheck it in itunes (to prevent playing and syncing), delete it from my computer and phone, and never download it. same thing with any other song i dont like that i purchased through itunes or elsewhere...

i really dont see what everybody's issue was, i actually had to take a little while to even figure out how to download it in my itunes (didnt show up in purchased - had to go to the album in the store and click download)...
