Well i think Apples approach yesterday was very confusing with the introduction of the 10.2 and no mention of the iPad Pros. Or no hint at another event.

If there is no new iPad pro.. the lineup will look incoherent.
The new lowend model will have the A13 chip
and the Pro model will have the A12x. A Pro with a processor that is a generation behind the low end entry model..
Makes no sense.
There are no iPads at this point with an A13, the lineup currently is:
iPad (now 10.2") - A10
iPad Air and Mini - A12
iPad Pro - A12X

I don't find it confusing at all to be honest.

Someone forgot the "/s" at the end of this sentence. There is no explanation for the $150 difference between a 64gb phone and 256gb iPhone other than higher margins for Apple.
No, the explanation is they can market the lower price point, and then up sell you to the 256. Hardly anyone buys the 64.

I guess when you once again become a trillion dollar company, you can afford to cut the price of your 1TB iPad Pro by $200.

The iPad Pro is an entirely different class of device and in an entirely different market altogether.

There is no iPad specific event. The event will be about the Mac and the iPad Pro, which Apple positions together.

If you think an iPad is an iPad and this one just fancier than that one...well I tend to agree with you, but Apple and the market do not agree.

No iPad pro is not entirely in a different Market any more than the iPhone 11 pro is from the iPhone 11.. or any other product lineup from entry level to pro level.
Apple has never separated the lineup presentation based on entry level and pro models ( with the exception of mac pro earlier this year) .... so the confusion here is created by Apple and its not just some random thought in my mind.

There may not be an iPad specific event .. but all iPads have been presented in a singular event all together. Not scattered senselessly.
There is nothing to debate here.

iPad is an iPad.
There is the low end and there is the high end.

What they did yesterday would be equivalent of introducing the iPhone 11 in one event and not saying anything about the 11 pro.. and then later introducing an iPhone pro in another event.. scattering and confusing things. And then justifying it by the logic of one being pro one not.
It’s senseless and confusing and totally uanessacry...
Unless its some ploy to generate talk!

That really depends. Not everyone has good connectivity everywhere they go, and even when they do, you might not wan to download a 100GB file from iCloud when you need it.

I totally see the benefit to having a device where you can store all your data.

Yeah, having to swap what you are working on between iCloud and your device, when its GBs worth of data? No, they would not be anywhere near as effective as if they could have it all locally on their iPad.

Don't get me wrong, iCloud is a great option if you need to do that sort of thing, but it creates a bottleneck that you would not have if you could store everything locally.

Do we get the same cuts in the UK or are we being punished for having a spastic for a Prime Minister?

That's not really the answer, because it doesn't address how iCloud fits in. iCloud enables a lot of offloading. It isn't necessary to keep your entire file history on your device anymore, so people don't. You can keep what you're currently working on, which even for the things you describe are not going to eat up more than a few GB at a time.

The same person can be equally successful with a 256 GB iPad as a 1 TB iPad.

So OP's question remains of what is the actual use case for a 1 TB iPad.

It takes time to move files between the cloud. Depending on your connection strength, it can take a lot of time.

I'm not saying that a lot of people fall into that use case. But the use case does exist.

This is simply false. They presented the last low-end ipad at an event just for that (the education event at that school) and didn’t discuss ipad pros then.

This is no different than times they have discussed new MacBook pros at separate events from MacBooks. They do that sort of thing a lot.

A mobile DJ who wants to use an ipad instead of a laptop. You can still use an external controller and have all your music on the ipad.

Is the 6GB RAM only on the 1TB models? I seem to recall that somewhere. Apologize if this has been stated here before. My wife uses an original iPad Pro 12.9 and it's finally starting to show its age. She has really enjoyed using that as her primary photo editor so I want to buy her the new gen, but would like to get one with 6GB RAM for extra future proofing.

How is it showing its age? Speed? Or RAM? Other? Just curious.

Yes, only the 1 TB model has 6 GB.

Personally I'm waiting for the next gen because I want a 128 GB model with 6 GB.

The premium over the base model for a 1TB drive is now $550, down from $750.

Samsung 970 EVO 1TB SSD (MZ-V7E1T0BW) NVMe M.2 V-NAND Internal Solid State Drive: $169

That's still an absurd margin for something that takes additional cost to Apple to put in the device over the 64gb.

1TB of flash costs Apple no more than $150.

How this is seen as anything other than an insane money grab is beyond me. This is a $400 BS service charge.

This may indicate iPad Pro won't get update until next year...
No, if you watch the iPhone 11 presentation, when they talk about the iPad they seemed like they were going to go into updates for all of the models but they said "We're incredibly excited about iPadOS and our entire iPad lineup, but today we are going to talk about our most popular iPad."

There is also another 2 GB RAM.

Hmm... I don't remember that. I'll have to check into that.

Some of her apps have a delay when opening and general fluidity is less now than it was. We have no complaints. It's still pretty fast and has been an amazing device for the last 3 years she's had it. She was hesitant to not use a desktop for editing, but she never touches her MBP anymore. The iPP is a great tool for her purpose.

I would totally buy this now if not for one thing: I should be able to backup and manage iOS devices on an iPad Pro.

Now that iPadOS is distinct from iOS and the iPad Pro has a USB-c port, it should be possible.
Then, and only then, can it replace my computer. Frankly, I would gladly do it. But if it behaves as an auxiliary device, I can't use it as a primary device.
Please don't hold your breath waiting for this functionality. Apple is slowly separating the iPhone from iTunes, so before long you will no longer be able to backup/manage iPhone locally and will be forced to use iCloud. I've already started the transition, and its not so bad.
