This is what apple has become under this leadership team.

It's really sad to see the company swooping to these lows, and what's worse are the people defending it, the same way people defend Musk as some sort of 'genius'.

1000%
I agree with you totally

There is a lot of disputing about the display. They have the highest resolution, sure. That doesn’t make them the best. They don’t have as high refresh rate as other competitor’s products and this is arguably a more important metric as it affects motion sickness and comfort. They don’t have as high field of view as other products and this affects immersivity, possibly the most important feature in such a device. It is *not* the best VR visor. And it is not the cheapest either. No surprise it flopped.
It's locked in at 90 Hz but it's not a 90 Hz display. More important than the refresh rate of the display to motion sickness is the response time from the cameras - which this has the best. I think you must be confused between response and refresh in an AR scenario.

Field of view is not a limitation of the display, that is, like the 90 Hz lock, a spec of the device itself...and chosen because stitching the cameras together on the edges would have resulted in fisheye effects.

I did not claim it was the best visor...and it's not VR... You considering this a flop is funny, in order to flop it would have had to have high sales expectations - which it didn't.

See, I actually see it as a desperation move from Tim, who can't innovate one bit, and he is singlehandedly proving the 'myth' that MBAs are clueless bean counters, only focused on stock price.

He wanted to leave some sort of 'legacy' behind knowing full well that the Car project was going to be cancelled, so they rushed this to market, despite warnings from their own internal team not to do it...

This is what apple has become under this leadership team.

Honestly, they need to cancel this ASAP, Timmy needs to announce his resignation (along with Craig and other visionless yes-men, all who are driving this ship into the ground), announce a new leadership team, with a focus back on being Apple Computer, Inc. , and move on. But I know none of this will happen, so whatever...
Apple is in desperate need of an ideas guy at the helm. Let's not forget Tim was the supply chain guy before he was CEO. He has done wonders for the stock price, but not much for product innovation. What new products were developed under Tim? Apple Watch? That was actually Jony Ive's idea. HomePod? Discontinued and eventually brought back as a cheaper version. Certainly not a device worth writing home about. AirPods? Well done, but at the end of the day, just a simple accessory product. Apple Car? Cancelled. Vision Pro? Massively overpriced and apparently not getting a lot of traction beyond the wealthy early adopters. Apple needs a Steve Jobs or Elon Musk type (minus the nutjob aspect of the latter).

It is a VR visor, no matter which silly marketing word Apple invents.
It is not at all required to have al high sales expectations to flop. All it’s required is to sell less than expected, however low were the expectations to start with. It’s clear this thing is selling far less than they hoped, hence the cut in production. That’s the textbook definition of a product that flops.

Defending it is not the same thing as swatting away baseless claims...like the one you made about Tim Cook here with no actual evidence.

You. You said 750k.

😂
A case of always remember what you post on the internet to avoid looking like a fool. 😂

On the other hand, there's some games on the Quest 3 and the PSVR2 I'd like to play, which aren't available on the AVP, so maybe I'll go that route.
Quest 3 looks to be the way to go. I own a PSVR2, and it hasn't proven to be popular enough to stir much developer interest. In fact, Sony ordered a stop of PSVR2 production due to a glut of unsold units!

(Sony now says they're developing a way the to connect it to PCs for release this year. I look forward to that, as PS5 doesn't have a web browser for viewing web 3d or immersive panoramic photos & video.)

It's XR, it interacts with the actual world. That's not marketing, the difference is clear. You are confusing XR/AR with "spatial computing" which is the marketing term. VR is what this device could be called when in that closed view mode...but even then, that's not actually allowing you to interact with the virtual environment.

This device is a dev kit, it's no different than the first couple of Samsung Fold phones.

If you're looking for a VR experience, Quest is definitely what you want. I've been sitting on the PSVR2 as well, it's practically abandonware at this point.

Musk does not follow Jobs' philosophy of actually delivering what you promise...I don't think I've ever seen a less deserving CEO be called a visionary.

Here’s what I’ve learned as an owner of the Vision Pro:

1. It’s such a cool device and there is nothing else like it out there right now at the level this device is.

2. It’s obnoxious to go through the hassle of putting it on every time I want to use it.

3. It’s great for travel and watching using your Mac screen is such an awesome experience.

4. It’s heavy and uncomfortable for long periods of use.

5. The glare and FOV have GOT to be improved. They are beyond annoying and sometimes kill the over all experience.

6. If I could do it all over again I wouldn’t have bought it. It’s not a device everyone can enjoy. It’s the most isolating and single personal device Apple has ever created. It’s cool but for me it’s just an entertainment device and a very expensive one at that.

Oh; and I refuse to wear this thing for important moments in my life like kids birthdays or other life events. I feel like an idiot doing it and that I’m missing the actual experience of it.

I sat this one out but I imagine I would end up feeling the same. It might be the first time I have ever felt no GAS waiting on a second generation (or longer).

Look, I do not like the guy as a person and will never buy a Tesla because of it, but it's hard not to see that he's shown himself to be a visionary. He's absolutely made some mistakes and questionable decisions, but so did Jobs. Part of being a visionary is being willing to think outside the box and that doesn't always pan out. When it does though, it often brings about revolutionary results. Jobs was on his own plane in that regard and is one of the GOATs, but that doesn't detract from Musk, as much as a hate to say it.

Bring it to Canada, I'd buy one today.

The Apple Vision Pro, running visionOS 1, is basically in it's beta stage, and it requires some time to mature.

Perhaps they should have allowed it more time in the "R&D oven"? Possibly.

Should they have provided a broader selection of supported apps and unique experiences? Absolutely!

However, at some point, they had to launch it and kickstart the process. Keeping it confined to their R&D lab wouldn't propel it forward. Unfortunately, this made those who purchased it essentially beta testers.

Undoubtedly, the hardware is impressive, and certain aspects of the OS are also remarkable. Yet, now they need to WOW us with visionOS 2.0, which needs to match the incredibleness of the hardware.

Hopefully, it will deliver the significant update everyone, myself included, is anticipating. If they fail to pour all their efforts into 2.0, then it will be hard for anyone to justify owning one in its current state.

I'm getting my popcorn ready for June 10!

I count 5 negatives and 2 positives

Ouch

Cancel this sucker Apple

Go back to the lab on it and consider a future re-launch with a new approach and a better OOTB support/content strategy.

The rumors before release very much indicated this was Tim Cook's pet project, and that he urged it on despite resistance from other executives. It was all in service of his "iPhone moment".
With the car project cancelled and Vision Pro looking like a flop or at best years away from any real success, what's left for Apple? We have been hearing rumors about these two projects for the better part of a decade. What's next in the pipeline? Outside of AI, I really haven't heard about any ground breaking project from Apple. That seems weird.

Has Tim Cook failed at setting up Apple for the future? If nothing else, he will leave them with a S**t ton of cash to play with.

So you do or don't have one?

(confused ... as the rest of your post reads like you've owned and used one for a long time?)

I follow Musk incredibly close...these revolutionary results you refer to just aren't happening or ignore the competition in those industries. Hyperloop, Boring Company, and Neuralink are possibly the dumbest things anyone has ever invested in, for instance. One thing these visionaries never do is take credit for the work of thousands of people the way he does, it's a case of blowing smoke and pretending to be something he isn't, at almost every turn. I really don't care about his political or social views, I've seen the guy as a menace in the tech sector since he bought Tesla.

You don’t know what you’re talking about.

A device like this was patented about 15 years ago and numerous additions were made since. This started under Jobs.

Tech companies always mess with new ideas. Some pass, some fail. The biggest pressure on them doesn’t come from consumers. It comes from investment banks like Blackrock who pressure them to join a trend.

That pressure is mostly on the CEO and the board. There are many VPs inside a company who show some resistance. Notice how many VPs and Apple executives didn’t want to be in the promotional videos even though they appear in videos for all other products?

There you are.

Look, I do not like the guy as a person and will never buy a Tesla because of it, but it's hard not to see that he's shown himself to be a visionary.

Literally everything that comes out of his mouth comes from 80s sci fi like Total Recall and the TV show Knight Rider.

But then he slaps a mother load of lies and market manipulation on top.

And he’s welfare baby who is dependent on government money while pretending to be a self made multi billionaire.

BINGO!

It's super clear too, anytime someone tries to defend Timmy (here especially), if you pay attention, you will realize the FIRST thing they bring up is the stock price, or the fact that it's 'now a Trillion dollar company'. NEVER do they mention what products or innovation he brought to the market, and that's the sad state of what the company has become, and even worse, what the 'fans' have turned into.
