No love for the nTB. :(

But good to see a refresh nevertheless.
Intel hasn’t introduced any new 15W CPUs with GT3e graphics since the i7-7600u and i7-7660u. Those highest performance CPUs available in this class are already in use in the nTB model.

Until Intel releases a newer CPU, there’s no upgrade possible. By that time, Apple may already have switched to their own ARM processor, who knows.

Exactly. It never happened. So you aren't talking from experience. It seems me saying this 5 times isn't getting through to you. Your data is from other people who have never had a problem either. By all means keep posting nonsense about things you have no experience with. I am laughing because I have yet to see one person on here who has actually experienced a problem themselves. Just a bunch of people with old machines trying to justify why they shouldn't buy a new one.

Is your argument really just you don't have one so you can't know?

It's high enough to cause delays/backups in keyboard replacements; for Apple to try to fix it with a new revision pretty well every year; for reviewers to have issues with several test units, in their limited time with them; for Apple to run extensive repair programs for them, etc...

But sure, it's not an issue because one person doesn't own one or has not (to date) had a problem with theirs.

Starting to feel that way too. Originally the difference between macOS and Windows was huge and macOS was clearly superior. Now I'm not so sure. Windows is a lot better than it used to be. The appeal of macOS for me is its integration into the ecosystem, but even that isn't perfect. Now they're porting neutered iOS apps onto macOS without touch functionality and I just don't get it. It's beginning to be the case that the main advantage the laptop has over an iPad Pro is its trackpad/cursor, but now I'm even hearing that there may be mouse support in iOS 13. So then why get a laptop?

I think a powerhouse desktop is still worth it for pros, but for the average user I'm starting to find the laptop with macOS less and less appealing.

Completely agree. It started years back and actually pushed me away from macOS. I’m not even sure what I would want in a traditional OS today, but iOS has completely met my needs. I’m comfortable as is today with my iPad Pro, but mouse support would be a really nice addition to using certain apps. Macs will remain for a small group of Pro’s, but I think the iPad has so much more potential than we sometimes realize.

7th gen processors only on the no touchbar 13”. What a joke.
How exactly do you expect Apple to upgrade to a non-existent U-class GT3e CPU? The 7th gen is the newest available, and Apple is already using the two top of the line parts in the 13” nTB.

Yes. That’s 100% correct. There is no keyboard issue, nobody has problems with them.

Jokes in you Apple.

No idea why you wouldn’t upgrade for a possible 40% speed increase. I mean why not? I’d be running down there for that alone.

That is a 40% improvement for the 45 to 60 seconds it takes to complete the benchmark (and heat up the CPU). If you really need the CPU performance you're using the wrong computer. Thermal throttling will knock that back significantly.

macOS has lost its shine for me. The whole idea of a traditional laptop feels very dated at this point. I’m looking forward to the transition to Apple’s own ARM chips and some interesting new form factors. At that point, I’m hoping they tighten the OS up, or just use iOS instead.
I take it that you are a consumer, not a (technical)producer?

I know it is correct. You have had no problems with your machine. So you are really just talking out of your..... aren't you.

Heh. Traveling for work today and missed this breaking news. Good thing I decided to return my previous purchase. I’ll wait to read reviews and for discounts to come along.

Let me get this straight. People who have never had a problem with their machine are complaining about machines they have never owned or are not able to buy? Ok I get it.

A couple of things: . . . .
• While transcoding video with all 6 cores maxed out for a prolonged period of time, I am not getting any throttling - so that pretty much negates your entire post. . . . .

And how do you know it is not throttling? Apple CPUs cannot and are not designed to run at full speed with their current thermal design.

I bit the bullet and bought one; with carthage and cocoa pods, my trashcan just can't cut the mustard. Can't wait any longer for a modular Mac Pro. I'll use this 95% of the time in clamshell mode tied to my 2 4k displays -- sitting on a block of ice. :)

Wouldn't you be better off with a Mac mini?

You gotta be nuts to buy one of these machines until the butterfly keyboard is relegated to the dustbin of history.
Possibly. Some of us still have to get work done though. I do miss the old Apple where things seemed to consistently work better.

the johny boy needs to give up his fascination for thinner and thinner. thats killing entire product lines . . . . . .

Not the entire product line. There is a place for overly expensive, small, light, low capability computers. There is even a place for overly expensive, small, light and moderate capability computers. But Apple is killing the over the top expensive full capability "Pro" computers because they don't make one, but advertise they do.

If one has to go someplace else to get a real computer, with real performance, then why stick with Apple?

I’m a consumer, but I also use my iPad Pro to manage a team of 60 people. No, I don’t do any operational work like you mention, but that hard line between being able to use iOS for content creation is blurring faster everyday. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Xcode for iOS this summer either.

macOS could certainly improve Touch Bar in very significant ways:
  • There should minimally be an option to hide on-screen feedback of certain Touch Bar controls, such as changing the volume. I don't want to see a giant volume head up display on the main screen.
  • More Control Strip items, such as ability to launch a specific app, eject all external volumes, and invoke the dark mode.
  • Option to always show the Escape key on the left.
  • Dock mode. The entire Touch Bar becomes the dock, minus the Control Strip (with option to always show the Escape key on the left).
  • Multi-tap Fn key. For instance, single tab = Control Strip. Double tab = the dock. Triple tap = function key row.

Terrific ideas! This would improve the usefulness of the Touch bar a lot. I hope someone at Apple is listening.

Exactly. I mentioned this earlier. The big mouths talking about problems with the keyboard have never owned one.

Yeah, I bet 3 of my coworkers (out of 9 who use touchbar MBP15) were just making up that this or that key stopped working. In a country that replacing a keyboard costs more than the minimum salary and takes ages.

I don't care about not having SD Card, HDMI, old USB, thick bezels, whatever.
But keeping up with the "lightest and thinnest" quest is absolutely ridiculous. It makes NO sense to save 4mm for the sake of design in a freaking 8 core 32gb ram laptop. If you buy an i9 32gb 4tb SSD machine you want performance, not microscopic bragging rights.

Btw, I have a 2012 15" retina and a hackintosh, just before someone yells "you dont even have a mac"
