Starting to feel that way too. Originally the difference between macOS and Windows was huge and macOS was clearly superior. Now I'm not so sure. Windows is a lot better than it used to be. The appeal of macOS for me is its integration into the ecosystem, but even that isn't perfect. Now they're porting neutered iOS apps onto macOS without touch functionality and I just don't get it. It's beginning to be the case that the main advantage the laptop has over an iPad Pro is its trackpad/cursor, but now I'm even hearing that there may be mouse support in iOS 13. So then why get a laptop?

I think a powerhouse desktop is still worth it for pros, but for the average user I'm starting to find the laptop with macOS less and less appealing.

iOS feels innovative, with significant updates adding more functionality. It feels like the future. macOS feels like a relic of the past.

It’s supposed to...I mean, it is...NeXTSTEP is 30 years old this year, macOS is 18 years old...iOS is roughly half that age on the iPad, at least.

So this is my take on the new Macbook Pro 2019.

Since its in the keyboard repair program already prior release:
https://www.apple.com/support/keyboard-service-program-for-mac-notebooks/

I just will buy a second hand 2018 Macbook Pro with the max duration of apple care. Because it wont matter if i take the 2018 or 2019 model anymore its the same keyboard if the 2018 keyboard fails and requires a replacement.

The speedbump is wayyyy to minor to justify buying it new at retail price. I need a Macbook pro for FCPX as i will be editing videos on the go alot and really dislike using Adobe premiere also due its monthly costs.

So disappointing.

This is going to be no improvement, the materials aren't the problem it's the thinness and overall design of the keyboard.

I've never known a Pro that needs a razor thin laptop. A laptop that doesn't throttle so much under load on the other hand.....

I know it is correct. You have had no problems with your machine. So you are really just talking out of your..... aren't you.

Again. Mine is 2015.

The disinformation campaign run by this forum and to which Apple fell victim before the whole sinister plot was incredibly outed by yourself was the 2016 machines onwards.

macOS could certainly improve Touch Bar in very significant ways:
  • There should minimally be an option to hide on-screen feedback of certain Touch Bar controls, such as changing the volume. I don't want to see a giant volume head up display on the main screen.
  • More Control Strip items, such as ability to launch a specific app, eject all external volumes, and invoke the dark mode.
  • Option to always show the Escape key on the left.
  • Dock mode. The entire Touch Bar becomes the dock, minus the Control Strip (with option to always show the Escape key on the left).
  • Multi-tap Fn key. For instance, single tab = Control Strip. Double tab = the dock. Triple tap = function key row.

Maybe this will help - https://medium.com/@svinkle/how-to-make-the-touch-bar-slightly-more-tolerable-857d29041f6a

I have my ESC key up all the time, but I cannot find where I made that setting change or where the article was that helped me to do that. Consequently, though, I always have the ESC key and Fn Keys displayed in Terminal. Perhaps I was able to do that in Better Touch Tool.

I you go to System Preferences> Keyboard>Keyboard and choose "Show F1, F2, etc Keys" under Press Fn Key to that works well for me if I need the Fn keys in the rest of the OS.

Being able to Eject All Volumes or Launch an App would nice at the System level as I can do that in the Finder, but it isn't really all that convenient. Being able to choose One or All Volumes to dismount would be helpful, especially if I want to dismount a physical device, but want to keep my network share mounted.

You gotta be nuts to buy one of these machines until the butterfly keyboard is relegated to the dustbin of history.
That, the throttling and the processor hit from the malware mitigation”fix”
There are so many reasons to skip this until solutions are addressed.

time to wait for ifixit video on this keyboard and other flexgate issues.

'substantially reduce problems that some users have seen' , so problem is 'Not eliminated/Fixed'.

who release new versions with out eliminating existing major design flaws. bad move.

My 2016 13" MacBook Pro has battery swelling to the point it won't close properly. That's a good enough reason for me to get a 2019 model. Probably a dumb question, but which processor should I get, the i5 or i7? I don't do any video editing or gaming. Money is not a concern. I prefer to get speed without sacrificing unnecessary heat and battery drain. I spent time researching the different processors and it's hard to discern the facts. In one thread I understood it to say the i7 might even run cooler than the i5. If that were true, I will get the i7. Thanks in advance for any clarify you offer to help me finalize this order.

Another new MacBook and another supposed fix for this failure of a keyboard. What “generation” of the butterfly keyboard are we up to now? Fourth? Fifth? Why didn’t they fix it properly the last few times? Are we supposed to have confidence that this is the real and final fix that actually works?

I never had a single missed, double or stuck key on any of my scissor-mechanism MacBook Pros. They never had to fix that keyboard. Just sayin’.

upgrading Macbook pro in just around three years???? (looks like it is less than three years)what a sad state we are in.

may be wait for some reviews on throttling. 2018 MBP already have throttling issues, this i9 will definitely make it worse.

Thanks for the feedback. The 13" doesn't have the i9 option. My choice is between the i5 and i7. Either way, I guess you're saying until they are tested, I won't really know which runs hotter. It seems the i7 must run hotter, but I don't want to assume anything.

really? That's not so horrible, really. Methinks you are being over judgmental.

I've been waiting for the new MacBook Pro to get released! Today is the day! :)

I'll have this purchased within the next two months in case there are any issues with it that are reported...

I may likely be in the same vote yet I’m going to be very smart and careful how I go about doing this. I may delay for 3mths first.

Does it come with a keyboard that works?

Lol it had better else Apple’s R&D will sky rocket form this product line alone. Furthermore their revenues from hardware will drop and thus Apple will NEED to push for iPad Pro’s iOS implementation to have a real file manager, full mouse (1st & 3rd party) support!

It's exciting to see an Apple computer get regular updates again!

I know right?! Now let’s see what the MacMini gets ... too soon to have 6-core upgrades?

The Octo-Core

Finally we have this! Been dreaming about this in a laptop since Jibs mentioned a potential G5 in a PowerBook during the Panther+G5 supercomputer introduction.

The smart route would be fixing it.

The reality is the keyboard isn’t getting any sort of redesign until the chassis does and the chassis isn’t getting a redesign for another year or two. While not my favorite keyboard, it works for me and many, many others. I’ll gladly trade it for the Magic Keyboard scissors mechanism, but that means a thicker chassis and Apple is not done paying for this chassis yet, I’m afraid.

If the revisions they made have the desired effect and the perceived reliability improves, then this whole thing is moot.

For me, if the keyboard works, it works. Again, it isn’t my favorite, but I don’t absolutely hate it. The 2012-2015 was too jiggly and mushy for me, the issue here is that the butterfly keys are a bit too close and require a little too much precision when struck and that means a bit more travel would be welcome to keep my speed and accuracy up as opposed to kissing every sixth T.

Those are the realities...so was Apple adding the 2019 to the program before the first one hits the streets. It is what it is.

That's a neat trick. While I prefer App Control as the default, the compromise seems well worth it the hassle of hitting the Fn key.
