Now if they only put in a 1TB SSD drive into the iMac 2019, added a T2 chip(For Hi Siri), made a new touchbar keyboard, and upgraded the monitor size that would be awesome!!

This is great. Just getting ready to buy an upgrade as I have the first gen of the macbookpro with the awesome USBc ports.

Wonder if someone has discounts on the models just behind these?

It’s the same two dozen lunatics complaining about a keyboard. They don’t represent the majority of users and some could easily be corporate sock puppets working for a competitor. This is the new normal.

Yes I figured this. Not one of the complainers has actually ever had a problem themselves so they are just blowing hot air.

Even worse, they haven't come down on year-old pricing for graphics/memory/storage upgrades for year-old parts in a non-upgradable machine.

I really wish I could run Mac OS on a Razer or Lenova...

Well, you can more or less. Both Windows and Linux are very usable and if you've been into macOS for a long time it's not uncommon to have views based on the state of thing 4-5 years ago. Give it a spin, neither is is bad choice.

That said, a linux installation with a macOS KVM virtual machine with GPU passthrough is not very hard to set up and will get you near bare-metal performance of the PC hardware, often with a lot better components than any mac, and for a fraction of the price.

Personally I'm not sure which OS will be my next - probably linux. But I do know that if Apple doesn't do some very drastic changes soon, I've bought my last mac. The keyboard, throttling, touchbar, price, lack of ports, lack of gpu options and such makes it seem like a horrible choice nowdays.

this thing is egregiously overpriced. The 13" is still limited to DDR3 and standard configuration is 8GB, with a gimped i5... and they want $2k for it. Microsoft has put DDR4 in their surface machines going back to 6th gen... what the hell is apple's excuse here?

Apple's previous keyboards were often reviewed as one of the best mobile keyboards in the business. Regularly praised. They had great feel to them. They had good resistence. Decent throw length. Good enough tactile feedback. So much so they are the standard that every other chicklet style keyboard tried to live up to.

these new keyboards are terrible. I have used a couple when prepping Mac's for roll out. as someone who has been a touch typist now for probably 30 years, They are one of the worst mobile keyboards I have ever typed on. I don't even care about the noise (I still use cherry blues). But the lack of keythrow and actuation feedback makes them like typing nearly directly on wooden board.

The keyboard alone lost Apple a sale when I replaced my MacBook Air. I will at this point claim that i will never buy one of their laptops while they are using these keyboards

As someone who has owned almost every PowerBook and MacBook Pro ever made I can verify that previous keyboards were utterly crap and very flaky.

PowerBook G3 Lombard/Pismo - felt like typing on bouncy sponge and the keys broke off easily.

PowerBook G4 Titanium - same keys as prior, not as spongy, but too much travel. We only realize how bad these things are in retrospect.

MacBook Pro Unibody - solid keyboard but quite large gaps accumulated dust and hair. Standard problem in PC industry.

MacBook Pro 2012-2015 - Improving, but still has gaps and a lot of light bleed.

MacBook Pro 2016-2019 - extremely stable, lightbleed fixed, first gen needed a dust protector, less travel means you waste less energy but some people can’t adapt to 1.5mm less movement after 6 million years of adapting. Age of corporate sock puppets spreading disinformation and attacks on competitors.

Considering that I have a 2018 MacBook Pro 13", just about to hit the first year anniversary sometime in August.
I was wondering, whether or not to get the AppleCare as I never needed it for my last 2012 MacBook Pro and I had it running for years.

For the moment, my keyboard is running as expected. But, I'd rather have the "new 2019 keyboard" just for longevity sake. Would they charge me if later I run into that problem without an AppleCare?

https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-for-apples-keyboard-service-program.2182149/

Apple just extended the four year KB program to the 2018 models, so you would be covered by that.

Is it possible to get the 2018 keyboard in the 2019 models?

All jokes a side, what is going on? I have waited for them to fix this keyboard and they will still use these butterfly ones? Who is in charge over the Macbook division? What are they thinking? All this money and people working there and still this, why?

Will we have another 3 days of releases like we did a couple of months back?

WWDC is 2 weeks away. We’re getting 14 days of hardware releases!

But seriously, the fact that they’re putting out a new MacBookPro, by all means their flagship Mac product, in a press release a couple of weeks away from WWDC tells me that they want to save the stage for something bigger. I’m growing more confident in the prediction that the new Mac Pro will be shown.

Not really, I sold my 2015 macbook pro and got 2016 then 2018 then 2018 vega i like the best and im greatful money is good for me but its not about money I want something new that I can see like faster GPU is great but cpus are already fast enough and I expect more of a change year after year

CPUs are never fast enough. If you are happy with the speed then just get an older one.

Your MBP is also running cooler and doesn't have the T2 chip. I would call that a win win :).
Why is the T2 chip a problem? I am looking to upgrade from a 13" mid 2014 and I cannot decide for which generation of 15" to go.

The jury is out on the keyboard and thermals. This 8-core beast will do to the MBP what Drogon did to the Iron Throne. And as long as "butterfly" and "keyboard" are still in the same sentence, that's a big NO.

Huge letdown there wasn't the slightest redesign, at least making the touchbar BTO. They're too much in love with their own designs to change anything but the basic spec. And given the kernel panicking, erratic keyboard mess my 2017 MBP has been, I have no trust in their engineering choices at all.

Ah, decisions decisions.

P.s. - Does anyone have an actual quote, on what Apple charges to replace/repair the keyboard? Knowing it's the hardware that is at fault. It'd help me understand whether or not AppleCare would be worth it for just next two years.

For keyboard only, you should be covered by the program and not need Apple Care. Regarding potential cost; my battery quit charging on my 2016 15" pro. The repair included a full top case and keyboard (since its all glued together). Invoice cost showed $900 but it was all warrantied.

Did they revise the cooling? Because the i7 was already faster than the i9 in certain tasks because of throttling. Now with an 8-core it will only be worse. Unless they’ve redesigned cooling.

We’ve all grown used to Macs not hitting anywhere near advertised speeds both in iMac and MBP, but some progress here would be welcome.

Well if the VRM overheating problem is solved then I will ask Tim for a refund to buy this new one

Don't the Surface Pro machines use LPDDR3 just like the 13" Pro? It has to do with power consumption. Would it make a real-life difference to you anyway?

You technically can, if you have the know-how. I was running Mac OS on a custom built PC a few years ago with relatively few issues. It looks like they’ve been keeping up with the most current OS releases, so something to look into if you’re interested: https://www.tonymacx86.com/

Is Apple playing with the TDP of the new 13”? Another site is reporting it’s now a 15W chip as opposed to last year’s 28W, although Apple could crank that up a bit.

Lol hol' up... my 2018 6-Core gets hella hot... but this is 8 cores... same chassis??? Really Apple? Hmmm lol idk chief
