But I'm sure in 2 months there will be a ton of threads about problems with the machines. "Keyboard failed" "Screen flickering" "Hissing noise from right speaker" "T2 crash"

No thermal redesign, same GPU, essentially the same keyboard? No, thanks... it sounds like Apple is doubling-down, choosing to ignore the very real-world issues people have with these machines.

You know, it's pretty amazing that the butterfly keyboard fails every metric possible for a keyboard: it's uncomfortable - it bruises your finger tips and just isn't a joy to use. (Yes, a minority of people do like it, but then for a minority of people it doesn't function at all.) It's incredibly loud and disruptive, like a 1960s IBM teletype. It's not very reliable, and it's incredibly difficult to repair. Yet Apple has quadruple downed on it. Why? Just too inconvenient to slide in a scissors keyboard into the product pipeline even though it's been 3 years?

Funny how mine, and everyone else at work works just fine...yet people like you insist its a failure/disaster *eye roll*. A few people having issues doesn't mean the entire thing is a flop.

This is not a popular thing to say on Macrumors. It is better to complain about Apple and voice opinions to the fact that this keyboard has been the greatest failing Apple has ever had, Apple is doomed now, and Tim Cook is 103% responsible.

"Overall, the total number of service calls is lower for both the 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro, versus the older models, even including the keyboard failures. Given that the volumes of MacBook Pros sold over the years are pretty static, this points to a more reliable computer overall —which is good considering that there are no user-replaceable parts."

Check out this thread in the MBP section. It's 80 pages of keyboard complaints with lots of people personally describing how their keyboard failed.

Unless you really believe that the people are lying ?

Definitely don't think that people are lying. I realize your post wasn't directed at me but, of those 80 pages there is a lot of the same posters complaining about how terrible Apple is - over and over. One would think if this is indicative of real world problems, the service calls for 2016 and 2017 models would be off the charts, not lower than previous models.

I'm not calling anyone a liar, just seems to be a disconnect and I'm genuinely curious as to why there are a ton of complaints but the service calls seem to be lower -- as a 2017 MBP owner (my wife and I each have one).

Sometimes I hate Apple for this. I JUST bought a Macbook 3 weeks ago!

Call Apple Support, complain, get authorization to return it past the 14 day return period (it's only a week) and buy one of the new ones.

Apple will take the one you return and sell it as a refurbished unit. So it isn't like they are going to lose money. You are actually doing Apple a favor by doing this.

Definitely bruises your fingertips if you type on it like a normal keyboard. Learn to type a little softer and it can actually be fairly pleasant and fast to use. I've adapted. I wouldn't say I LOVE it, but I don't hate it.

And yes, it's loud. That's probably one thing I really don't like about the new keyboard - the noise. As my keyboard has "broken in" over the last year, it has really gotten ... loud. lol.

So everything we were fearing came true. No redesign, same thickass bezels, 4th gen butterfly keyboards, still no physical function keys (not even escape key), still no ports other than usb-c, no magsafe, same pricing, same ridiculous 256gb SSD in base models.

GTFOH Apple.

I guess I'll hold out a little longer for a refurbished model of the 13" 2018 MBP. Back in 2014 I got an 8 GB MBP with 256 GB of storage. Storage and memory hasn't increased and I'll have to pay at least $400 more.

an internal refresh is always great.

But the damn thing could barely handle the i7s and i9s from the previous chips... i'm afraid to see what any load on the 8 core does to it's thermals. I expect not good things.

as for that keyboard. 4th times a charm I guess?

At some point, Apple you have to move on from the failure of the butterfly keyboard.

What's wrong with the Touch Bar? I understand people complaining about the missing Esc key, but apart from that, what's the problem with the Touch Bar? I for one like it a lot and use it every day.
Aside from the Escape key, which really needs to become a dedicated physical key, I think the main issue is cost.

macOS's Touch Bar support hasn't evolved at all in 3 years. With the right apps, Touch Bar can be very useful, far more usable than a row of function keys.

But I think it needs more system level refinements.

I would wait until October 2019 before I consider buying to see if they release a sleeper refresh like they did this year. In fact, they might releasing the 16 inch model in October for the holiday buying season.

First time ever i dont want the latest apple product, the cpu is fast enough now, when will apple come out and shock us all with an amazing new updated product everything is so small these days

Every year small internal upgrades its starting to get boring and even the new 2019 keyboard is on the repair list before its even out lol

All tech is kinda doing this these days. I remember as a kid, going from a 200Mhz to a 400Mhz was AMAZING. Things loaded faster, things actually blazed by that normally took a long time.

Now days, tech is hitting diminishing returns. That and I think companies are trying to maximize profits by having new products every year. I'm keeping my iPhone 3-4 years and my MBP 5-6+ years. I'm glad these updates aren't massive because if they were my bank would be in trouble (and it is in trouble enough as it is).

I want my dock on there and the mouse can go down to click apps so have more space on desktop, then I will like it
