I almost always think Apple does fantastic with their ads. This time I did not connect with it at all. Then again, I don't need a boyfriend or a mixtape. :p

This ad is so unlike Apple, what the hell is going on there?

I'll bet there's a separate Beats team doing Apple Music commercials and they're not coming out of Apple's marketing shop.

Not just the marketing, probably the whole service as such, which would explain the abysmal performance and the many issues people are having with it.

Gross they're using that new crappy MacBook in their ads now.

Spotify FTW BTW !

Have you tried the new MacBook? Why would you say it's crappy?

It's an amazing computer! It's a great lightweight form factor, and I find myself using it more than my six month old 15" max spec'd out MacBook Pro. Don't be a hater.

With that new iPhone commercial I thought Apple was getting back to good commercials again but this one is just terrible. I'll bet there's a separate Beats team doing Apple Music commercials and they're not coming out of Apple's marketing shop.

Well, the commercial had to be approved by one man in Apple to promote Apple Music. And that would be Mr. Cook.

The buck stops with the CEO. If he didn't OK it, then it wouldn't have been aired in the first place. There's no way Beats would be doing this independently. After all, they got bought out and report to Eddy Cue, I believe.

And who the hell comes up with ideas like ' boyfriend mixtape '? That idea had to be pitched by an ad agency either internally or from an outside source that got the OK. But then again, someone at the top in Apple must have set a 'tone' for this commercial as a framework before the pitches came in.

It was quite a tacky commercial because when I noticed actual cassette tapes on the coffee table, it made me wonder why they were there. What was Apple trying to associate cassette tapes with the 'mixtape' on Apple Music? I grew up with cassettes in the 80s and then CDs. And I grew up in Cleveland which is a very ethnic and diverse city, before I moved to the northeast ten years ago.

I don't have a problem with the hip hop/rap scene despite growing up listening to mostly rock/metal over the years. And that's cool. I understand this is a focus on hip hop music in the commercial, but they could've gone with some mix of other genres without the stupid ' boyfriend mixtape ' concept.

Yeah, there's only one problem: it just doesn't work. I am an Apple zealot and have been in denial as long as possible. But Apple Music is terrible. This weekend it obliterated all of my playlists, all of my likes and all of My Music... AGAIN. The third time is has done this. Plus, even when it isn't nuking everything, it randomly drops certain songs, greys out others... On all of my macs and iOS devices. Plus the lag is incredible and embarrassing. I am talking minutes. On a 100 Mbps connection.

Spotify just works. Don't love the UI but it's better than that clunky AM effort. And, it streams instantaneously and manages to remember my playlists. Not a big ask!
Didn't notice any lags when I used it. The AM interface is indeed better and if I'd pay 10 €/month for such a service I'd choose AM. My big music listening days seem to be over, though. Somehow doesn't interest me anymore. There are weeks without me listening to any music except to random stuff they play on the radio.

That ad has more African Americans in it than the entire audience at the Emmy's. A friend of mine attending the show just took a picture inside the theater. It was blinding.

You obviously didn't watch the Emmys. Two of the ladies in the commercial attended the awards. Then there was historic winner Viola Davis, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Terrence Howard (and at least two additional cast members from his show Empire), and Emmy winner & presenter and Hollywood fav Reg E. Cathey. That's just off the top of my head. The host joked about diversity and Viola Davis's heartfelt acceptance speech was on point, but it's not as bad as you make it appear.

Edited to fix typo

It's far from a "amazing" computer. It's not even really a computer. It's a **** device for the price. 1300 dollars when you can get a MacBook Pro for the same price that runs circles around this thing. It's just an iPad with a keyboard.

Well for the people looking for an "iPad with a Keyboard" then the Macbook is for them. Just because it's not for you....
Oh and when is the last time the iPad ran Mac OS X?

Weird. I bought a Macbook, and it certainly seems to be a real computer.

Maybe I got lucky, as it seems to be running OSX and I seem to be able to do everything on it that I also do in my iMac.

A Macbook Pro doesn't run rings round the Macbook in terms of weight and portability.

But hey! Maybe I should base my views on your use case scenario and requirements. :p

No, black ladies + hip hop equals reality. I suppose you prefer to see 3 black ladies (with 2 of them I know that grew up in the hood) listening to heavy metal or country? ;)

Normally I'd be right there with you complaining about the stereotype, but I've met Tariji several times and she did grow up in the "hood," so I can easily see her listening to Old School Hip Hop (plus "everyone" did back in the day) and you have Mary J Blidge, one of the biggest Hip Hop stars in history, I'm shocked they listen to hip hop.

Only if the product were any good. Love Apple, but Spotify is so much better.

I go to find a new cool playlist on Spotify and I'm presented with all kinds of interesting mixes like "Evening Commute", Deep Focus", "Indie Mix" so many eclectic choosings. It knows what time of day it is and shows relevant playlists, it feels smart and connected.

I go to find a new cool playlist (after a dozen clicks on the horrible UI) on Apple Music and all it asks me is "What Genre?" Stop thinking so inside the box and limiting playlists to genres. Most the time I don't even know what genre I want to listen to. They're also very short playlists.

Why do you have to make it all about race? Has nothing to do with it.

Okay, so I can easily tell you accidentally replied to me because I'm 100% certain you meant to reply to the person complaining about the stereotype because the reply you gave me just mimics everything I said.....except for the last part that I highlighted. Not sure if that was sarcasm?

YEAH....BUT....one thing I love about Music that kicks the crap out of Spotify is if I already know the name of a song I just use Siri to get it and play it. I don't have to even touch my iPhone screen or use any search tools.

I can't really say you're being fair because Spotify has been out far longer and has had time to perfect it's system. On the flip side, Apple has been in the music business far longer and iTunes has been out many years over Spotify so the library on iTunes is unmatchable. Spotify will perhaps never catch up to iTunes.

I will say both offer something great for me however, based on my needs. I can't say one is far worse than the other. I hate the black UI on Spotify though for daytime use. It really sucks.
