Its not 2008 anymore when apple had a app advantage. Apple is aiming for the ignorant.
And who is your comment aiming for? The ignorant as well?

Apple still has a clear advantage for Apps over Android. It's hilarious to see people claim this isn't true and hand picking an App here or there as if it represents the whole of both stores.

Apple used to have a huge advantage in the past when it came to apps, now is 2015, android App Store is almost on par, and even windows phone has improved to a point it's an alternative to both.... though still lacking.

Could you explain what you perceive is the clear advantage? I use both iPhone and android and the advantage swings both ways in my opinion.

They don't own the Plus name, but Samsung knows exactly what they're doing with the S6 Plus's name.
 
Why does everyone think these ads are geared towards the tech oriented and elder? These ads are specifically designed with the iPhone's best target audience in mind - the youth.

Please name the app that Android users DESPERATELY want on their phone. Please exclude native apps, thank you.

But that's not the point of the ad, is it now. The point is the 'array' of apps. No one cares about the one millionth app, or the 3.5 millionth app. We all clamor for the 20 or thirty, or so.

I'm guessing you haven't really looked in the Windows Phone app store.

There are more dedicated iPad apps than there are WP apps, and the app-to-crap ratio of Windows apps in GENERAL (Windows Phone, Xbox and Windows combined) is still higher than iOS or even Android.

Apple still has the advantage, I can guarantee you that. Why? Currently the iOS platform has the most sales per app (be it free or paid). iOS users have always averaged having more installed apps compared to the other platforms, and the iOS app store has paid more to developers than the Google Play Store or whatever Microsoft calls their market. Most apps start on iOS or get updated on iOS first because developers know this. I can tell you with our apps, we see 2-3x as many sales on the iOS app (despite the Android app actually being (slightly) superior to the iOS one).

iOS just has a larger market for apps, and I doubt that's going to change anytime soon.
 
I'm not a big TV watcher but I saw this ad last night, and the part that made me smile and think, "THAT'S the key point!" was the reminder that the hardware and the software are designed together by the same company so they work together better.

No matter what Android phones come up with, that's the one thing they can't compete with; the vertical integration.

My local taxi company, my local butcher shop, my rec hockey league, my daughters choir and my kids karate league. All have iOS Apps and no Android App (they have to use the web version instead).

Add to that the music creation Apps my kids use (which Android is completely useless for).

There's a few examples for you. Oh, but you said DESPERATELY. Is that a qualifier you use so you can turn around and say my selection of Apps aren't something everyone needs? You might not, but they are important to me. And they're not on Android.
 

To describe a variant of the phone with a larger display? Correct, they did start that after Apple.

The Galaxy S and S Plus identical except the S uses Cortex-A8 and the S plus uses a faster Snapdragon S2. This is also the same for the SII and SII Plus - only difference is processor. Samsung's use of Plus was always to indicate an updated chipset, never an updated screen. In fact they STILL use this Plus attachment to indicate an upgraded chipset (for example, the Galaxy V came out last September, and the Galaxy V Plus came out just last month, and the two phones are IDENTICAL except the V Plus has an upgraded chipset).

Samsung actually marketed their big screen devices under an entirely different name. It's actually obvious Samsung is calling this bigger version of the S6 the S6 Plus to rival Apple's "iPhone 6 Plus". Big Screen variants are always marked with the ending "Max". For example, there's the newest Samsung Galaxy Grand, and the recently released Galaxy Grand Max. IDENTICAL phones except for Base Storage and Screen Size.

If Samsung has and continues to use the Plus name to indicate upgraded chipsets, and the Max name to indicate larger screen variants, why did they decide with the S6 to suddenly call it the S6 Plus? Because its #1 rival calls itself the 6 Plus.

True dat.
But in the end that cleverness will fail as well. Just like removing the easily replaceable battery, incorporating a lens protrusion on the back, and employing metal cases etc. in an attempt to make their phones more iPhone-like. All resulting in poor sales and seven quarters of sliding profits (link).

These new ads with the tons of iPhones look... I don't know, bad. The way the phones pretend to float a sit on the light grey background doesn't look good, looks sort of dingy.

I own a windows phone. Apps are a personal preference and in my opinion is has come along way in the last few years.

Android has most of the apps people want. However, iOS still gets apps first despite Android having the largest market share.


The Market share is completely taken out of context

You have a 2nd world country and a 3rd world country in India and China with over 2.3 Billion people.


Yeah there goes your android market shares right there. You're talking about $50-$150 dollar android smart phones for 2nd and 3rd world countries.


Yeah, guess what? They're not gonna get paid apps either.


2 things people always overlook.


1. Apple isn't looking only at consumer sales, they're pushing B2B apps hard and its in their best interest to be the Mobile OS of what Windows is to the business world.


2. Android sales are completely taken out of context when you include International sales. (as mentioned above)

Oh, it's come a long way, but it still has a very long way to go.
