Wow i must of been sheltered my whole time on MacRumors. Had no idea that there were so many Ad execs on here. Wow doesn't that arm chair burn already?

I don't think it's about people acting like they are execs, are people who the ads target not allowed to say the ads suck and they are not doing anything for them? You're acting like only execs can evaluate an ad. Anyone can. For instance, most people love superbowl commercials. I bet you none of those people are ad execs, they just like or dislike them.

It seems on macrumors, majority thinks these ads SUCK.

EVERYONE. The idea is to get as many people to sign up for Apple Music as possible. So that includes you, me, and everyone here.. We all kind of fall under the "everyone" category.

In fact it even covers android & windows users too, since Apple music is available on both platforms as well.

So then your telling me a 5 page thread on MacRumors defines that the Ad is either pass or fail? This board is not the end all be all. I know plenty of people including MYSELF that don't have an issue with the Ad

So thank you and others so much for trying to be the universal voice of all. You guys remind me of the folks who tried to convince people who were happy with 16GB that they needed more space. Just because it made you feel unconformable.

Do me a favor don't be a voice for everyone because you don't speak for the world. You have not brought the world a coke and tried to teach it so sing. Speak for yourself only and don't ever speak for me.

That's just it: The ads are NOT targeting you or any of the others complaining here. There's a whole market of people who will never join MacRumors but enjoy these ads. That's the point: Not all ads will resonate with everyone. Different ads for different audiences.

Personally, I liked the Nail Salon one but not the Naomi Campbell one but neither upsets me. I just shrug my shoulders and look elsewhere. I didn't care for the Taylor Swift ads, but there are others that loved them.

Apple is way bigger than they've ever been so obviously they're gonna target more people than they used to; people with whom these ads will resonate. Apple will continue to make different ads that appeal to specific audiences and as long as one of those ads appeals to each or most audiences, they will have done their job and run a successful campaign.

What part of it's just our opinion are you missing? I don't need to write a letter to Tim asking whether or not the ad was targeted toward me to either like it dislike it. I never liked Snapple, but I loved those ads. Clearly they weren't targeted at me, but I was allowed to have an opinion and say I liked it.

Yet here you are saying we are silenced at MR and not allowed to comment on an ad. Have you been drinking the koolaid for so long that just some people having an opinion about Apple is a major issue with you and that it's everyone's problem that they don't love Apple like you do.

Who gives a damn, I hate the ad. That's my opinion. Other people agree. Some people don't. We are discussing it here. You are trying to silence everyone saying Apple is the best, doesn't make mistakes and if we don't like the ad it's our problem. WTF?

I swear, Apple is a religion for you people. You can keep worshipping Apple, we will state our opinions about everything else EXCEPT Apple lest we be struck down by the all mighty god Tim and his worshipers.

WTF are you talking about? Who is speaking for you? I said my opinion, others stated their. Some of us like the ads, others don't. What does that have to do with anything. So I can look at a burger commercial and say I hate it and it's fine. But god forbid I say anything against an apple ad lest people like you attack everyone and scream apple is good, you have no right, you are stupid because apple is so good.

Worship Apple, I don't give a shi*. I hate the ad and apparently 5 pages (not all) of people hate it too. What does that have to do with you? State your opinion, let's discuss, but don't shut everyone up because we offended your god. For some, Apple is just a company that makes electronics. It's not a religion, it's not a god, it doesn't deserve worship, and sometimes doesn't even deserve my money; sometimes does.

Do I need to explain to you the basics of the 1st amendment?

Well you said EVERYONE had an issue with the AD. I don't worship apple but i do like Naomi Campbell and DJ Khaled. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean its a problem if others do like it.

I'm going to like things whether you do or don't but its ok if you don't like the things i like. Just don't argue with me about the things i like and insult me by telling me i am drinking "Kool Aid" because honestly i don't give a *** what you think.

If you want to talk viewpoints that is one thing but i respect how you don't like these commercials but your not giving that respect. I'm done though. Sir you win the internet so i hope your proud and they make a meme out of you. Whatever you say is gospel.

The dark side has cookies and Kool Aid that i don't mind sipping from except its my choice =o)

At what point did I say everyone? In fact I was careful to constantly state it both ways (some do, some don't). I offended you because you offended me, kind of goes hand in hand.

I don't get why you became so aggressive. All I did was state what I thought of the ad like everyone else did. Yet you blew up and immediately started defending apple like I offended you. I didn't know who you are, I still don't nor do I care. I stated my opinion about an ad, and I will stick to it.

Like I said, one more time, some people like it, some people don't. After reading all the comments, seems like most don't. No idea what that has to do with you.

And try to read my post before responding. I didn't say EVERYONE hates it. I said it was targeted at everyone. Because most ads are and that's typical. They don't make ads and say "ok, we want to target everyone except people on macrumors, we definitely don't want those people to see our ads".

I'm not into rap, but I'm confused. Is DJKhaled a rapper or a mixer? Looked up the music, can't figure it out.

Apple used to connect with its user base.

Now it just alienates people with crass celebrity adverts and poor products.

Change has to come soon.
It's not for you.

I love the ads but maybe Apple wants to take the Android version of Apple Music out of beta before they start promoting Apple Music so heavily.

Aloshka,

I'm not trying to silence you or anyone else, if fact I said nothing even remotely close to that or even implied it. I'm just don't think it makes sense to be so upset about the ads.

I guess I shuoldn't have quoted your post, but my point was you can see how many posters are whining about "when Apple was great" and how these ads devalue the brand and all this other nonsense; as if their tastes are an objective measure.

We don't all have to like the same stuff; I thought I made that clear in my post. You're welcome to say whatever you want, I just feel like people are wasting their breath and being unnecessarily stressed by things that are ultimately inconsequential.

On the point about DJ Khaled, it's funny you ask that because he doesn't produce instrumentals or deliver structured vocals (he only talks on tracks). I think he just facilitates the gathering of talented people, who then make the music. Whatever he does, it's certainly worked out well for him haha.

If you didn't my biggest apologies then. I completely misunderstood you then.

Well, I see your point. Something I noticed reading all the posts too. "Didn't like it" seems too simple. Someday when I have time, I'd love to go over older posts and see if people complained just as much when Steve was the CEO. And whether the complaints have risen since Tim became CEO. I suspect people were unhappy either side.

I do admit, I used to love the mac vs pc commercials. Now those were hilarious. I know a lot of people found offense to them, but I loved them anyway. I do wish they'd do some entertaining ads again.

We don't all have to like the same stuff; I thought I made that clear in my post. You're welcome to say whatever you want, I just feel like people are wasting their breath and being unnecessarily stressed by things that are ultimately inconsequential.

People take the time to express their opinions and try to be louder than everyone else. That's human nature. Hell look at me, I took over the entire thread with just 2 posts, but that's my problem and nothing to do with this. But honestly, I do know how you feel, because sometimes you can't help but just respond because it's constant complaining. Go join the what's going to be released in WWDC threads and you'll get frustrated within minutes. Hell, I even blew up in one of the threads until I realized, I don't think I care what is going to be released @ WWDC and nothing changes based on what I think. Some people will hate the products (if any), some will love, etc.

I think the bickering that goes on here in MR has nothing to do with Apple. It's just personalities clashing. There is really nothing you can post here that won't start a fight in one way or another. Because realistically people either hate Apple are on here, or they love Apple and are on here. Any opinion will clash with another.

I reread your posts, and wanted to apologize. I definitely overreacted and misunderstood quite a bit of what you said. It's just I'm very used to having people here think that Apple is their mother, father, children, pets, job and their god. I wish I was kidding. They defend Apple as if it's their entire personality. Clearly you didn't mean it that way.

I really really wish there was a place where I could just discuss (normally) devices, companies, etc. Like I want to know people's opinion of the HTC 10 when comparing it to the iPhone. But you can't write it at android forums and you can't write it here. You know?

On the point about DJ Khaled, it's funny you ask that because he doesn't produce instrumentals or deliver structured vocals (he only talks on tracks). I think he just facilitates the gathering of talented people, who then make the music. Whatever he does, it's certainly worked out well for him haha.

Ahhh.. that makes sense. So he is a bit like Dr Dre is right now. Great position to be in. I think Dr Dre has been around what feels like forever.

I agree. From Wikipedia:

Assault cases
Campbell has been convicted of assault on four occasions, after she was accused 11 times of committing acts of violence against employees, associates, and other individuals between 1998 and 2009. During the first such case, heard in February 2000, Campbell pleaded guilty in Toronto to assaulting her personal assistant with a mobile phone in September 1998. Campbell paid her former employee an undisclosed sum and agreed to attend anger management classes; her record was cleared in exchange for her expressing remorse.[49] By 2006, eight other employees and associates had come forward with claims of abuse.[50] During this time, Campbell was photographed wearing a Chip and PepperT-shirt that read "Naomi Hit Me...and I Loved It".[13]

In January 2007, Campbell pleaded guilty in New York to assaulting her former housekeeper, who had accused Campbell of throwing aBlackBerry personal organiser at her in March 2006. Campbell was sentenced to pay her former employee's medical expenses, attend an anger management program, and perform five days of community service with New York's sanitation department.[13][51] She attended her community service wearing designer outfits, including fedoras, furs, and—upon completion of her sentence—a silver sequined Dolce & Gabbana gown.[5][13]Campbell detailed her community service experience in a W feature titled "The Naomi Diaries", and subsequently spoofed herself in a Dunkin' Donuts commercial, directed by Zach Braff, which showed her breaking her heel while gardening and throwing it through a window.[13]

In June 2008, Campbell pleaded guilty to assaulting two police officers at London Heathrow Airport two months earlier; she had kicked and spat at the officers following an argument about her lost luggage. She was sentenced to 200 hours of community service and fined £2,300,[52][53] and was banned for life from British Airways.[5] In July 2015, Campbell was sentenced to six months' probation by a Sicilian court for her August 2009 assault on a paparazzo photographer; she had hit him with her handbag for taking pictures of her and her then-partner.[54]

Blood diamond scandal
In August 2010, Campbell made a highly publicised appearance at a war crimes trial against former Liberian president Charles Taylor at the Special Court for Sierra Leone in Leidschendam. She was called to give evidence on a "blood diamond" she allegedly received from Taylor during a Nelson Mandela Children's Fund function in 1997.[55] Campbell initially refused to testify, and—after being subpoenaed—told the court that being there was "a big inconvenience" for her.[56] She testified that she was given "dirty-looking" stones late at night by two unidentified men,[56]and claimed she did not know the diamonds had originated from Taylor until being told so the next morning by a fellow attendee, actress Mia Farrow. However, her account was contradicted by testimonies from Farrow, her former agent Carole White, and former Children's Fund director Jeremy Ratcliffe.[57]

What the hell is apple doing actively having customers associate this awful, toxic, human being with their brand? Surely anyone who followed the "blood-diamonds-for......what exactly?" scandal wouldn't tough her with a bargepole?

The problem with these ads is they have limited appeal outside of iPhone users because Apple Music is unusable on Android devices.

Oddly enough, there is a huge user base they are connecting with now that you are just not a member of.

I didn't say it wasn't available for Android. I distinctly said it was unusable on Android. My friend is constantly reminding me about how his beats app always worked and he didn't have to think about the 6 month long betas and what not. it mad no sense to get rid of Beats on Android if Apple wasn't ready to support Apple Music past beta status on Android.

The only reason people can think these ads suck is cause we are stuck in the past? Owwww dear......no..... :) an ad can suck cause it's just crap. This has nothing to do with Steve passing and it being 2016.

Though if you were a long term apple fan, having watched many ads in the past and present, in my opinion these are poor, especially if you live outside of the US, and don't know the fat DJ guy ;)

Now while you are a fan, I can see while you really enjoyed it. This is one ad that will have split opinions , but the excuse for people not liking it, is not cause we are old or living in the shadow of Steve.....

They are also targeting android users to switch to iPhone, where the music app is native

Tim Cook is all profits. If these celebrities pull in the $$$ to apple, it seems he is not too worried. Also , I think you will struggle to find anyone close to the Beats guys used to promote the service with a clean record of you dig enough, which gives these celebrities the cool factor, which sells.

It's what happens when a computer company meets hip hop. Two different cultures of employees / fans.

Hey call. We all have to literally be ad executives to have opinions on them.

So you must limit your opinion only to things you specialize in right?

On the contrary. Ad executives thought this ad was great and released it , it's the general public that decides if the ad execs are right. Ad execs have lots of hits/misses. If an ad is done right , it will appeal to the masses and get positive feedback, they even have annual awards for the ads that got it right. A lot of crap also gets released .

Seems this one is appealing only to some fans, I'd call that a miss. Apple ads have historically appealed to all users, hence the opinions here.

Oh Ray!
Good job he was sitting down. He sounded a touch inebriated. At least he's still getting work.

As for the actuals ads.. Eh?

You just can't kill DJ Khaled, he's like some parasitic form of meme that feeds off peoples disgust and hatred. He's truly ********ted his way to self proclaimed success.

I don't care if Cambell slaughtered a room full of kittens. She just isn't relevant.

Listen, I think the Taylor Swift, "look at me I am one of the unwashed masses goofing around and falling over" ad was dumb, but I still think it is a good ad.

Weird choice for an ad campaign. I know this is for the US market and she's nothing more than an animatronic in the ad but.. Really?
Given the current shenanigans, shouldn't Apple have gone for some random Bollywood star named Siri?
