As an M4 iPad Pro user, i don’t understand this update. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the M4 and they’ve spent money on an M5 for no real world advantage(s). Spend the money on releasing an iPad with 50% more battery, that’s what will grab people’s attention, not M5 fluff, which doesn’t mean that much to the average user.
I’ve got some wonderful news for you! You can just ignore this M5 update and go on with your life like it was never even announced! Have a good day!

My M1 iPad Pro is finally starting to feel slightly sluggish on iOS 26 but I blame that more on the bloated OS than anything. Even so, waiting for the 2nm M6 in the next model.

I’m curious if the 1TB model will include 24GB of memory? Also wondering how much we need that memory on an iPad for typical usage. Now that the iPad has a proper system to swap to SSD, and this new SSD is twice as fast, it would seem less important with the base starting at 12GB. Also wondering if the 1TB model gets the 10-core CPU? It says “up to 10 core”, have they been doing this on recent iPad Pro models?

I would honestly get an Air if they ever put an OLED in it and if had more memory. Perhaps they would do a non-tandem OLED which wouldn’t be as bright.
16GB of ram

Maybe Apple has no reason to upgrade. It’s just a box that plays videos.

Gaming has never been a serious consideration. And a camera was not confirmed. 🤷‍♂️
My bedroom TVs built in Roku has gotten really slow so I want to buy an Apple TV 4K, but I'm afraid a month or so after I buy it, they will announce new ones. LOL

I still have my A12X iPad Pro and it's fine right now for me, so... LOL
That’s great, it’s such a good device. I definitely didn’t tax ours. However, just loading Mail, Messages, Disney+ (to watch a movie) or ESPN (to catch a hockey game), I definitely noticed some pretty big lagging. Maybe I could do a fresh install? However, I know 7 years was a good run. If the screen wasn’t cracked, I’d still keep it!

The M4 iPad Pros with 8GB ram will likely stop getting OS updates in 2 to 3 years so don’t be so optimistic.

The M1 iPad Pro is currently 4 years and 5 months old as of today, October 15, 2025. With either 8GB or 16GB of RAM. The M1 still received OS 26. Apple roughly hold a 4-5 years of OS updates before being phased out.

The M4 iPad pros will last to 2030.

"New"??? this "stick a new processor in it and call it new" now with pretty much every device. As a huge apple fan - this is disappointing. There is ZERO innovation anymore with Apple - they are doing as little as they possibly can with the product line.

As someone else said, the iPad is a mature device. It functions extremely well for what it is supposed to do. What “innovation” does it need? Over the M1 iPad, I see a better screen (OLED), faster processor, superior wireless radio, more RAM, better support for peripherals.

I prefer these iterative updates — giving iPad users what they need. Apple should not tack on junk and bloat no one wants or needs in the name of “innovation.”

The screen work as intended ,the users eyes are defective hence user error
I can’t tell if you’re joking or not, but a low PWM rate has been measured, objectively, on iPad Pro M4 by NotebookCheck:

And there are many reports of this model of iPad in particular causing more issues than other OLED devices, which I personally suspect is due to the tandem OLED resulting in a different PWM waveform.

Furthermore, a low PWM rate is not a necessity by design. iPhones 13, for example, had rates that were high enough to be tolerable to people with sensitivities.

I don’t see how it’s “user error” to experience a physiological response to a stimulus?? Everybody’s got different visual systems. Nothing wrong with wanting an update that mitigates the conditions that could prevent someone from using the device.

Pick up an Amazon Firestick 4k or 4k Max when it goes on sale, as a temporary solution. You can also take it with you when you travel, use it in hotels (we do). I’ve seen the 4k Firestick on sale for like ~ $40 on occasion. Worth it.

Then get your Apple TV when released.
