Near the bottom of Apple's new iPad "Your Verse" webpage, it says…

"New York‑based filmmaker Josh Apter has created a housing for iPad that turns it into a lightweight, portable moviemaking camera. With attachments like microphones, SLR lenses, and other accessories, he takes iPad on the go to shoot his documentaries."

I just found this on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyOCpAk6FV0
(Sorry about the ads at the beginning)

This ad is incredible.

The people saying "most people don't use it for this derp" surprise me. You use it for what you want to use it for. Just like the PC.

There isn't a whole heck of a lot the iPad can't do these days. It's not just a "consumption" device. I was looking at apps to use alongside the guitar the other day and was quite impressed by what is out there.

I have to laugh. If this commercial came from Microsoft or Samsung, all these "brilliant!" comments would be "ridiculous". And you all know it too.

Normally, I'd agree with you. But as someone who's usually an Apple skeptic and who's typing this from my Note 3, I couldn't disagree more. Like others have said, I too had an immediate and visceral reaction. I thought this was a WONDERFUL piece of advertising and really draws the viewer in.

Well done, Apple. Well done.

Two things I'd say.

For the non tech person, all they saw there was people using A Tablet. May as well of been any brand.

For about 1 second right at the end saying Extra Hardware Required for some uses.

Nice to sneak that in for a second right at the end in smaller font so it's missed.

Great ad, art actually. People on this forum that don't appreciate it, I feel a little sad for them.

Just pondering why no one has said:

"Ohh, look that bloke looks an idiot taking photo's with his iPad"

Like almost everyone was saying on these forums not that long ago.

Funny that!

So it's all cool now is it ?

Note: I have never had an issue with someone using an iPad for Photo of Video work.
I think Apple should put the same Camera the iPhone has in the iPad.
It's disgusting, given the space in the iPad they insist of deliberately crippling their tablet in this regard when they have the module in their phone they can use. Likewise no flash unit either, when the iPad with it's massive batter and internal spec could handle that with ease also.

All these deep, emotional connection commercials are getting old. They really should do an anti-Surface ad showing someone trying to be productive with excel on a touch screen. :roll eyes:

Number of people who will write the next great american novel on a laptop or desktop: 0.000001%

Number of people who will use their desktop or laptop to play games, browse the web, check email and update facebook statuses: 99.999999%.
And the number of people who will "write the next great american novel" on iPad: 0

You got it right. iPad is good for certain things but not for what this ad is saying it is good for.

If people don't understand the ad you should feel bad for those who produced the ad not the people.

well done. that said, its my least favourite apple ad since the new campaign began. its not simple enough.

I would say this is the beginning push for the iPad Pro, or like a setup to lay a foundation to people who might not see the iPad as a way to use it in such a professional environment.

This ad is reminiscent of this abhorrent Levi's ad:

YouTube: video

I hate how a specific brand of pants is equated with freedom and embracing life. They're pants. And while I'm hesitant to say that the same doesn't apply to Apple's commercial, I do think it's more appropriate to cast such a powerful product in this light.

here's another example, not quite as appropriate a comparison, but also a poem type montage:

Apple will only mention Microsoft/competitors when they need to "catch-up" in a given market... (This only realy happened with Mac OS over Windows in the mid to late 2000's - remember, the mac guy/windows dork...)

They would never mention a competitor now... Not one single good marketer would. Marketing 101 would agree.

[stuff]...

By the way, this is Apple's biggest & boldest ad since '84... Have to give it up for the Apple Marketing Team.

Woop woop

If you're #1, there's no need to mention the competition. If you're 2 to whatever, of course you mention how you compare to (are better than) #1.

Marketing 101 would not agree with you. Look at the car industry. They do it all the time.

As for the ad, it was okay. Nothing wow for me, but a nice ad nonetheless. I just hope it doesn't embolden more people to use iPads for photos and video in public situations. I use to say I wanted to take a bb gun to every iPad - not just iPad, all tablets - videographer at my kid's play or sporting event. Then I realized it's not the iPad's fault. It's the user. {rant over}

A little too much emotive message? The big news is the change of Apple using the product as hero, with full zoom... this really changed especially with iPad Air. They don't need to show people how to use the iPad anymore... instead what you can do with it.

BTW, for emotional connection ads, Google in my opinion is spot on these days.

I would rather have a $6000+ mac pro as a weapon of choice being a graphics designer, but we are talking about a device's usefulness compared to size and portability, iPads are not the logical/ideal choice at work where as a Surface Pro would have been - if the concept of the ad was deployed my MS, unfortunately MS cant seem to invest into intelligent communication/media agencies.
That depends on what field your in. I can use any device as long as it has application to my work. A surface pro is not more portable or useable than a ultra book or MacBook air. It's actually a more clumsily device with keyboard than a laptop.

It would be awesome if Apple had an iWatch teaser during the Super Bowl. Would be epic.

I've spent many years on these forums and seen a wide variety of opinions and thoughts and it never ceases to amaze me that people forget that what Apple makes is a means to an end, not the end itself. Apple's devices help people learn and navigate the world around them. Their devices help you express yourself and create things. But, all too often, we become complacent and too bound up in our daily lives to see what can be or what could be.

This ad reminds me and others that our iPads can do so much more than we often give it credit for or even know that it can do. That alone makes this ad great.

Nope, I go by the history of forums like these. Personally, I prefer and own mostly Apple tech, but that doesn't mean I drink the Apple koolaid. The bias of the typical Apple fan is hilarious. Insult an Apple product and they act like you just insulted their mother.

By the way, I have a B.A. in Media Study, with concentrations in film and video production. So my "imagination" is perfectly fine.

Ooh... please do share!!!
I would LOVE to hear how such a sophisticated, high-minded individual as yourself is impressed with attack ads by Microsoft & Samsung that the rest of us lesser mortals find atrocious. Please bless us by explaining how this poignant, moving quote- coupled with amazing evocative humanistic technology-related footage is actually garbage. Perhaps a few of us will be able to comprehend enough to join your ranks, oh wise one. Apologies for that other poster claiming that you lack imagination. Obviously they are not as privy to the depths & latitudes of your impeccable taste as you and I are. Please forgive or at least pity them.

/scathing sarcasm

You are a sad sad man.

He may be sad, but he is right.

If this were an ad for the SGNote3 or for Windows8 or the Surface, everyone would be rolling their eyes and complaining about the products.

Just the nature of this forum.
