Nope, I go by the history of forums like these. Personally, I prefer and own mostly Apple tech, but that doesn't mean I drink the Apple koolaid. The bias of the typical Apple fan is hilarious. Insult an Apple product and they act like you just insulted their mother...

Ooh... please do share!!!
I would LOVE to hear how such a sophisticated, high-minded individual as yourself is impressed with attack ads by Microsoft & Samsung that the rest of us lesser mortals find atrocious. Please bless us by explaining how this poignant, moving quote- coupled with amazing evocative humanistic technology-related footage is actually garbage. Perhaps a few of us will be able to comprehend enough to join your ranks, oh wise one. Apologies for that other poster claiming that you lack imagination. Obviously they are not as privy to the depths & latitudes of your impeccable taste as you and I are. Please forgive or at least pity them.

/scathing sarcasm

This is too funny. I think your post just proved his point.:D It's an ad. Your level of outrage seems a little over the top. It's not like he's advocating the clubbing of baby seals.

I would say this is the beginning push for the iPad Pro, or like a setup to lay a foundation to people who might not see the iPad as a way to use it in such a professional environment.

VERY perceptive. I can't believe I didn't even think of that. *hat tip*

Two things I'd say.

For the non tech person, all they saw there was people using A Tablet. May as well of been any brand.

For about 1 second right at the end saying Extra Hardware Required for some uses.

Nice to sneak that in for a second right at the end in smaller font so it's missed.

Lol. Sorry- I do NOT see your point.
I'm sure they must put that type of notation in for legal purposes.
If you think that anybody believed that the iPad Air comes with, for example, the SLR/microphone rig for free just because it was briefly shown in this ad.... I suggest that you get a renewed opinion of your fellow man. Sounds like you believe that they are all idiots.

To be fair... I'm not outraged at his opinion of Apple's ads. I'm irritated at his smug opinion of himself, to whit, that his (quite ordinary) degree sets him above others, etc. I thought this was obvious in my post, but will try to be more clear about my points... thank you for the feedback.

Impressive ad! Although the voice was a bit on the sinister side. A departure from previously light and breezy ads. Maybe that'll become a new trend now.

Robin Williams making you want to be a poet and inspiring you that life itself is about the art, while work is about survival is sinister?

Does anyone have any insights as to who the man at 0:11 is supposed to be? The speaking starts just after we see him. He's sitting at an old vanity, smoking a pipe, looking in the mirror. Flowers, an old photo, and what looks to be a face powdering brush on the vanity.

Edit:
Never mind, It's the character "John Keeting" played by Robin Williams from the movie Dead Poets Society. And he's the one speaking, as those are his lines from the movie. The image of the man in Apple's ad is apparently not taken directly from the movie.

Hey I get it. Reading the tone of your post, I figured it related to his use of his degree to further his point. However, none of the words you used conveyed your specific irritation with the poster. To be fair, you actually never mentioned the degree at all. Your words were pretty specific regarding Microsoft/Samsung and the iPad ad. Since that was the written focus of your post, you sort of came off just like his characterization. It's all good though. No harm no foul. It's a forum. All points of view are appreciated.

Apple is trying to move the iPad away from the notion that productivity means a keyboard and an office suite.

A question tho' -- these iPad ads keep showing these video-apps where someone films some doing something technically sophisticated (choreography, sumo wrestling), and then using the app to refine the technique by drawing angles on the screen.

Are these real apps? If so, could you point me to one of them?

Loved it though still prefer the Air ad with Bryan Cranston.

Apple always has the best commercials ever. BTW Love Robin Williams. :)

Apple owes it's soul to a brilliant marketing program. For years they've led the pack with a blend of hype and good TV commercials to reach Joe & Jane Public. If not for the consistently well thought out and polished ads, Apple would be selling a lower volume of product. It's a brilliant testimony to the power of marketing.

Really nice.
Watch this one ,then go watch Samsung's "stalker ski bum"ad for their hideous watch.
"Heeey pretty lady!"

Gag.

If you're #1, there's no need to mention the competition. If you're 2 to whatever, of course you mention how you compare to (are better than) #1.

Marketing 101 would not agree with you. Look at the car industry. They do it all the time.

As for the ad, it was okay. Nothing wow for me, but a nice ad nonetheless. I just hope it doesn't embolden more people to use iPads for photos and video in public situations. I use to say I wanted to take a bb gun to every iPad - not just iPad, all tablets - videographer at my kid's play or sporting event. Then I realized it's not the iPad's fault. It's the user. {rant over}

You confused yourself. Apples to apples, oranges to oranges... the car industry/market is not even a close analogy so, to NOT confuse either of us anymore, I'm pretty sure you agree with me & Marketing 101, you just misread the initial post a lil.

I understand the intent of the Ad but does anyone here do any of those things right now? I'm betting that a majority of users just check emails, read a book or play angry birds.
Nice Ad but just not realistic for what the "average" person does with them. I have a full size pickup truck that can pull a 9500 pound boat but I never installed a hitch. I've only helped people move (maybe 4 times in 10 years) and brought home large appliances. I've only needed the utility of my truck just a few times and is the reason why I drive a Dodge Neon beater and the truck stays parked.

Nobody could of foresaw what that rectangular piece of aluminium and glass would do for so many. Except for Steve Jobs. When I see these ads, I can picture that these images were in his mind when he stood on stage introducing the iPad.

I don't know if that's quite true. I mean certainly Jobs gets a ton of credit for realizing the potential and making it a real product that people want to buy. But I imagine there were lots of other people within Apple who also saw the potential (not just because Steve told them to), and probably even a lot of people in other companies as well, who just didn't have the pull or the resources to make it happen themselves. A lot of people probably looked at all those 2000s Microsoft tablets and thought there was something there but the execution was crap.

Love this ad, very powerful.

It's incredible what you can do with an iPad these days. And to think people said "iPad is pointless, it's just a big iPod Touch" when it first came out...

Good work Apple :apple:

Embarrassed to say, but have to admit.....I was one of those people!

Since then though.....have I ever been glad to have been proven SO wrong!

----------

I have to laugh. If this commercial came from Microsoft or Samsung, all these "brilliant!" comments would be "ridiculous". And you all know it too.

If this commercial came from microsoft or samsung, after I woke up from fainting, I would rush quickly to my window to see if pigs were flying! Although I'm sure now that Apple's come out with this commercial, samsung won't be long to come out with something JUST like it!

This ad and the pencil one, make a point of how much of a visionary Steve Jobs was.

Many doubted him and Apple when the iPad was announced. "A big iPod touch" they shouted.

Much like the pencil, the iPad was born as a blank slate. A tool in which people's imaginations defined its potential.

Nobody could of foresaw what that rectangular piece of aluminium and glass would do for so many. Except for Steve Jobs. When I see these ads, I can picture that these images were in his mind when he stood on stage introducing the iPad.

I think a lot of people until recently saw the iPad as a lesser innovation when compared to the iPhone and the Mac. However it seems that it took a little extra time for it to be seen of the same or even higher esteem.

Thank you! Hadn't looked at it like that. I can see Mr. Jobs on stage, imagining all this......

This is a very Wieden+Kennedy spot. Surprising move for both Apple and their agency.

Not a bad spot.

There's a reason for that - I'm sure some creative director at MAL (Apple's agency ,for those who don't know) skin grafted the idea of a Go Forth! ad with the v/o from DPS. Someone at Apple liked it and bam - you have an anthem challenging Apple's errodingly commoner customer base to stand for something.

It even quotes Walt Whitman, whose poem is used in the Levis spots. Connecting the dots ain't that hard.

These ads really crap on the competition. Showing the product, showing the product being used. That's all it takes.
