Will we really be able to use the watch to check in for airline flights? Whenever I fly my watch has to be taken off along with everything that's in my pockets.

I make it through security of all kinds with my Gear S. Not sure on the :apple:Watch since it is metal if that will still be the case. The scanning systems where you hold your hands up over your head will still likely let you in and they will just simply in rare instances look at your watch.

The "Us" spot looks so ripe for late-night mocking that it looks like it was done intentionally so. Like dangling it in front of stand up comics. Is it a stalker movie trailer? Abilify commercial? So bad and just so tone-deaf.

am i missing something?

I thought the watch was supposed to act like a remote for the camera, so you could set up the camera and then press a button on the watch face to activate the shutter and take a nice remote shot? Yet in the 3rd spot, it looks like the woman sets up the camera and then runs to get in the shot like it was on a timer? We never see the guy tap his watch to activate the shutter. Am i missing something? This seems oddly staged to me. Otherwise, the spots are typically subtle and nice Apple marketing.

It's nice to see Apple also promoting an active life style.

Well, it's time for me to go for my daily walk/run. I live in the hills so no cell service here. Bricked iPhone 4s(music), a bandless cheap Timex watch, house key and pepper spray(dogs).

I don't think there's anything that ad that tries to really appeal specifically to women. In case that was their intention, I don't think they did a very good job.

I do however agree with you that a lot of the marketing behind the watch has revolved around trying to reach out towards potential female users.

My feeling was that by showing ways that couples can stay connected emotionally through using Apple Watch that the company was trying to appeal to women, because that's a well known priority for female consumers.

OK. I got teary eyed at the end of the last one with the guy obviously traveling getting the heartbeat from home.

The arrow drawn to get the woman to look up was cute too.

If someone wants you to follow what they're doing all they long it isn't stalking. Just saying.

But.....

....unless you're Beyonce, Kay Perry or one of the lucky folks that actually received their phones today, it's NOT here. :(:(

None of the use cases apply to me, at all. I do not have that hectic life depicted in the ads, am I a lesser human?

Nope, your just from a rural and anti-elitist country like Sweden, where the individual ego is shunned in public, but coveted in private # Your post is totally Jante.

The Stockholmers will probably love it though, they all think Stockholm is like a mini New York City, and that they are all Manhattaners. ☺️ # #

I know they are ads by Apple, but seeing the watch in so many practical real life scenarios is exiting.

Never been to an airport where you check in at the security line. This shouldn't apply at all, you check in and show your boarding pass and then you get in the security line.

I guess it's no surprise that the most useless product Apple has ever created is receiving the most marketing effort.

Just to clarify, it's when in the security line at the airport prior to putting your laptop on the conveyor, you need to show boarding passes and ID to proceed. That's where I've encountered the issue with my watch and the TSA agents wanting to either see the boarding pass on my phone or on paper.

I've never had an issue at the gate when boarding the plane. The gate people don't seem to care so long as whatever you scan works quickly.

Maybe i am dense, but what does the middle segment of "Us" mean, where woman seem to be unhappy? The first one has missed several calls, right? Why sad face? Just call back. Dito the next 2. I do not see the message, how Apple Watch can help those.

I think it's trying to imply that she and someone else (Eric) are fighting, or not speaking. The Watch presents the missed calls to her, and reminds her of it.

It's not necessarily a positive message, but simply demonstrating how the Watch can enhance our connections with each other, during good times and bad.

Riiight, cuz Apple hasn't marketed its past product launches?

Cue the haters and trolls. AKA people who will be the 50 millionth customer in 18 months.

Agreed. And the decision to migrate won't be marketing or cool factor - it will because of possible maintenance costs, security issues, the ability/desire to collect data and leverage that for a better customer experience, etc. New hotels being built, I can see, choosing NFC locks as they will need to choose "some" technology to adopt. But hotels already with systems in place - it will take a lot longer.

ETA - Also the fact that not everyone would be able to use the functionality either - so these systems still need to have some form of entry (NFC card you hand out and/or keypad)

Just a thought but there might be more momentum behind the nfc lockmakers being more aggressive selling them to hotels if there are two methods to use them (phone and watch) and the opportunity to push offers to the watch and phone (which is another reason for them to expedite adding the locks).

FWIW- this is from an article in November:

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has unveiled a mobile keyless entry system that will allow guests to use smartphones to unlock rooms using Bluetooth at 150 hotels around the globe by early 2015. The service will also be available via an Apple Watch app when the new wearable device ships next year, the hotel chain has told NFC World+.

SPG Keyless will go live in ten locations in Beijing, Hong Kong, New York, Los Angeles and Doha on November 5 and will be available to members of the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) loyalty program at Aloft, Element and W hotels.

Now that the Watch is out it will have a halo effect on you being able to use your Gear at TSA. Like it or not, I suspect Apple is better at making sure TSA is educated about boarding passes on watches. Like with Pay, there will still be a brief period of them getting used to it but it'll pass.

Right. And I think that's her sitting on his lap kissing in the restaurant later, so they made up. :)

Sorry, my post was intended for people who not only know how to read, but understand what they're reading.

I said "receiving the most marketing effort" that doesn't equate to other products not being marketed at all.

Now you know the difference. You're welcome.

In 18 months it won't be the same device and may not be as useless. You're welcome again.

Right. That should in reality really appeal to both men and women (takes two to be a couple), but I honestly found it to be very corny, almost like scenes taken out from a mediocre rom-com. The music and the general production value is still miles better in that ad though.

I'm not really sold on these features yet, and that's coming from someone who regularly stays in touch with family/friends throughout the world thanks to iMessage and FaceTime.

Anyway, it's a small forgettable ad. We'll see how this will unfold.

also lol at the "time to stand up" and she randomly stands up in the metro scene in the 2nd ad

Agreed. It's not a real world scenario since she would have had to be sat down on the tube for an hour at that point. Unless she's going round and round on the Circle line, that's never going to happen.

Right. And I think that's her sitting on his lap kissing in the restaurant later, so they made up. :)

Oh, I thought it was his other woman ;)

Seriously, there's just too much disjoint, unintelligible stuff going on in the ads. A bit like the watch itself.

Apple needs to slow down, prioritize and focus.
