I can see why Apple is waiting until the fall - that's when they typically roll out new iPads. Makes sense to keep that going for their product calendar.

I thought pro users want more ram and faster processor and even more capable software. Something like Final Cut Pro on ipad, but I don't understand the larger screen

My guess is that Apple is unveiling the new 12+ inch iPad in September so it could use the A9 system on a chip (SoC) and the new iOS 9.0, which has been rumored to be more like the "Snow Leopard" release of MacOS X not more more functionality, but a lot of bug fixes and code tightening to speed up performance. I would not be surprised this large iPad has as much as 4 GB of RAM to allow smooth running of iOS apps side-by-side.

I suspect that it will have nothing of the sort and will be typically underpowered and neutered in features so that everyone feels the need to go out to buy the next one, and the next one, etc. etc. etc. since they are already stuck in their closed ecosystem.

Well, they have switched the cycle once before. They could do it again. I for one was happier with new iPads in the spring and iPhones in the fall. That way you only had to wait a half a year to see new products :)

iPad Plus?

This seems the obvious choice to me. I don't think most people who buy a larger iPad are going to be buying it because they are "Pros" whatever that is supposed to mean. It will be because they want a bigger iPad. I count myself amongst them.

It needs iOS tweaks. Or to run OS X. In fact I think i'll bank on the latter over the former.

If they go the OS X route they'll need to seriously upgrade the RAM (with Pro on it 4GB would be laughable on Yosemite, it'd need 8GB). I can't see them doing that.

I'm going to vote for a iPad Air Plus (if we ever actually see this thing), 2GB (maybe 3GB but probably 2GB) and just a small amount of iOS tweaking for it - for folks that want a big version, pressure touch and creatives that want the stylus capability. Take whatever the then current iPad Air price is and add $200-$300.

And if so, it'd be very likely to have sales trends and a life like the Macbook Pro 17. JMHO....

What I want:
Digitizer and stylus... Wacom or N-Trig.
Reasonable bezels.
Multi-tasking.
Mouse support.
File system and boosted iOS9 or OSX. Oh and much more RAM.
Pretty much, Apple's version of the Surface Pro.

You're not alone. I think all of that will be included.

I believe that history is about to repeat itself regarding the iPad Pro. There are already "witty" people calling it the "Maxi Pad" (as in a feminine hygiene product)... that same shortsighted thinking preceded the release of the iPad 1.

Was hoping it would be in the 3X2 aspect ratio format. 4X3 is getting to be too old.

I have to disagree here. 4:3 is the perfect format for tables. I wish all makers adopted this. To me, it's been the biggest differentiator between the existing tables.

I've been using my iPad for several years now, and I am realizing I really don't like tablets that much. My next purchase will be the latest version of the the MacBook Air. Tablets are too limited for my needs. I think a lot of people agree, and the sales numbers show this.

Just wondering why do you don't like tablets not so much now?

You know there are Windows 8 tablets....

Apple has basically said that iOS is the touch version of Mac OS so don't hold your breath

I don't get the need for this. at almost 13" it's larger than a small Macbook Air. Why get this over an Air which can do more and has a real keyboard?

I disagree, given that it's very likely that Apple will add in the side-by-side running of apps on this 12+ inch iPad model. And that will require a lot of RAM.

With Apple now going to higher density for the A9 system on a chip (SoC), I think 4 GB of RAM on this new bigger iPad may not be far-fetched.

Apple is listening to their customers and going back to the drawing board to redesign with precision pen and removable keyboard/touchpad.
