That's historically been true, but Asian car companies are now making cars in America more than not. Today's automation and tax changes in the U.S. now make that something to lookin into at least. Doesn't mean Apple won't ultimately subcontract the technology out to Asia, but it doesn't mean they won't start here.

But with many Apple rumored advances, I cannot help but remember the Sapphire Glass debacle. That sure didn't work out well for anybody.

This is an iPhone, and the US is not the only market for this product.

Nor does Apple has 16+ models of cars that Toyota assembles, nor is their product easy on costs to ship across the world. The Toyota Corolla is popular around the world and they are made in China, Mississippi, Sao Paulo, Ontario, Japan, and Thailand. Only 8 of their models are made on US soil.

Contracted manufacturing is always better because Apple is not in that business. That is Foxconn, and Pegatron's business.

Expect to see more of this. Apple's competitive advantage will increasingly be hardware-based and in order to maintain that advantage they need to develop hardware that their rivals can't copy.

Yes, but to also stop pouring millions of $$ into Samsung, which helps to finance their own development of competing products.

micro led is samsung's invention and they are already selling products based on this technology

Micro LED is not Samsung‘s invention, it’s a shared technology amongst other competitors alike have different timelines of when the actually release their own Product incorporating it. Its difficult to know when something was actually invented, which was rumored Apple has been experimenting with Micro LED since 2014.

For The record, the only product that Samsung has that they debuted with Micro LED is a 146 inch television, which is not even available yet. You stated Samsung is already selling product(s) based on Micro LED technology, what other products is Samsung selling currently that has micro LED aside from an unreleased 146 Micro LED TV?

Exactly, it's pretty obvious Apple has been a bit uneasy about Samsung being a key supplier since the X was known.

It's hard when you rely on your rivals to make it for you.

If Apple actually started making things as opposed to using things other people develop and make then they may stand a chance.

with "LOWER COST" it's not ment to become CHEAPER but to be pulled more MONEY from Customer to SHAREHOLDERS.

that is all that counts for T. Cook!

If The technology can be generated a lower cost, we don’t know that it couldn’t be beneficial to the consumer for future projects. Not sure why you have to interject Tim Cook into the situation because you think it’s about his interest, when it’s not.

Yeah but can microLED individually turn off per pixel, offering extreme contrast and crushing deep blacks?

No secret that's what they're all working for. OLED can do it. Potentially, so can MicroLED, and it's easier to control in manufacture, and it lasts much longer.

They are not going to make commodity items, they see this as a key strategy. And could you explain “they may stand a chance?”

If there's one thing that's more assured then death or taxes, its someone on this website complaining about dongles.

"Complaining"

First Apple plays catch up with adopting OLED, now they copy Samsung with MicroLED. Good grief, just damn embarrassing. When Samsung doesn't bother making an OLED TV, you gotta ask why. Instead they reveal the world's first MicroLED TV. OLED is great for mobile devices that don't have the same lifespan as a TV, hence Sammy's genius modular MicroLED TV. Apple developing their own MicroLED display obviously really means, Apple buying out companies that have already done all the hard work.

Except no one cares who is "first", we only care which is better. Apple did the same thing with OLED and they'll do the same with microLED, when it's ready. Samsung can rush it out the door like OLED, that's totally fine.

microLED might be great for the next apple watch, it will reduce the battery drain even further and the screen should look crispier, and since the watch is a low volume product they could use microled even if the tech isn't exactly ready for mass production.

in reality apple still hasn't moved to oled for its display technology, which is a huge step forward from the old lcd tech, so i doubt microled will be introduced sooner than three to five years from now. in the world of tech that is forever.

Funny this is where Apple is investing it's R&D. Samsung is the king of displays. Sorry, this is why Apple uses their displays.

Apple should focus on the what they suck at now.. maybe move some cash from their dongle department to updating hardware. Maybe focus some R&D on the mac pro, maybe invest some money into Siri, Maps, how to include multiple ports on a macbook...

Apple has all the money in the world, too bad they have no direction...
Samsung is King of smartphone displays.

They are quite poor on TV size displays.

Yea, unlikely they'll be able to survive as is. They are failing in the way they currently do business.

Will this eliminate PWM? My eyes, head, and sanity can’t take another Apple product with the dreaded tech.
Even OLED doesn't have to do that to you. I've been on the Samsung S9+ reading and posting all weekend and it's been great. I can't see the letters "vibrating" like I did on my ex-X's display. And thanks again for your efforts to get Apple to respond to that issue.

It wasn't really microled, why? because it was 146 fracking inches. Got that. Samsung was blowing smoke.
a microled display would have been 14 inch with the same resolution.
Yeah, Samsung are bS artists.
Of course it was microLEDs. Just because they are having trouble making them smaller, does not mean the rest of the technology isn't there, just because it has 'micro' in its name. And having a an actual product prototype on display is a hell of a lot better than having started development.

Your post just reeks of Apple fanboyish, yuck.

Except Samsung have a head start on MicroLED. They showed off a 146” MicroLED TV this year and have reported to have their mobile screen variations well under development.

Given Samsung’s history of pushing display technologies in the mobile space well before others, I wouldn’t be surprised to see MicroLED in a Galaxy device first. After that it will be the usual pissing match of who does it better.

They can be first just like OLED, But the first truly awesome OLED with great color fidelity was the iPhone X.

The first OLEDs sucked very much!

tbh a macbook with more ports is a macbook pro.

Good news for Apple fans, they did a good job of dropping the Face ID technology relatively un-leaked and caught Samsung off guard, hopefully they can do the same here.
