I pay £45 pounds a month for my iPhone and I've had the first, second and third generation iPhone. I've spent over £4000 on Apple computers, peripherals and accessories.

Add another £3000 or more for iTunes purchases, OS X and other software. I pay plenty.

It might be wrong, and I might be impatient, but I'm a loyal Apple user, and I like to have advanced previews of iOS.

I don't moan when it crashes, or apps don't load. I restart and carry on... In any case, while it might not be right, I wanted to have a go with iOS 5.

I love this attempt to scare monger... lol.

A note to all the self righteous folks here slapping wrists, get over yourselves.;)

i personally think you have just made more sense than any other person on this forum. you are my hero! you hit the nail right on the head.

Once you are on 5beta, you can't go back to 4.x

Yeah you can. I've done it. You do a full restore in iTunes. While the device is connected to iTunes hold down power and home until the device reboots and iTunes asks you if you want to do a factory restore. Did it several times with no problem.

Not quite the full story. Once you have installed iOS5bx, it also updates the baseband. That cannot be reversed. Shouldn't matter for the purposes of going back to 4.3.3 as far as I know.

1) lots of lamers posting negative (1-star) ratings on App Store because our (the legit dev's) apps don't (yet) work with iOS5. We are left to assume that these "lamers" are not dev's... just tools that want to show off their iOS5-ness.

Oh I can vouch for this. Sales on my app(s) have already decreased and slowed down because the ratings have plummeted due to problems with application compatibility and reliability on iOS 5, e.g syncing not working.

I see where you're coming from but to me thats just like the argument I often hear about jail breaking which goes along the line of "I've paid £400+ for this phone so I deserve to download all the apps I want for free!", which is a tenuous justification. That being said, I don't really have an issue with you doing it as you've said you don't really moan when it crashes etc - thats what annoys me the most, when someone posts here about an issue caused by the beta and expect it to be finely tuned and perfect software.

Question how are they proving it, not that it matters because the co tract probably gives them the right regardless. The other day I was the dev page and there was a new warning about giving away info and I new something was up, I guess this is it.

That would drive me up the wall. The affect on sales, I mean. But then to be fair I've seen so many stupid reviews on the app store I don't understand why I'm surprised...

I am a legit developer(paid), and had iPhone 4 beta 1 when it locked up on me last night. I only have one device registered to my dev account. I didn't realize the betas expired. All is well now as I re-imaged the phone with beta 4, and my device is now back online.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

I don't think these people who sell UDID's are real developers. These people who signed up for iOS Devs account are the same kind of people who buy UDID's. They just want an early access to the iOS because they think they're cool to have the beta version of iOS. Now they messed up because these teenagers or early 20's kids are now banned to become an iOS Developers until Apple change their mind. If you want to become an iOS developers and you 're banned by Apple then there's no more future for you on iOS. Well, there's still an Android OS or PalmOS or Blackberry to consider. Sorry!

Apple's NDA is a legally binding contract. Breaking the contract is against the law.

I've yet to see anyone go to jail for breaking an NDA, but Apple could sue you and get you in trouble.

Speeding is against the law as well, yet people speed and get away with it all the time.

I think you should stick to technology stuff.

I am 95% sure that this is just iOS5 beta 2 expiring, as my iPad was disabled last night (on beta 2) but my iPhone, on the same dev account, was not (On beta 4).

On ios5 beta 3

I was on iOS 5 beta 3 around 7-8 last night and it died on me (music was still playing though...but I can't get passed the screen - when I plugged into itunes it said to update)...I am in Canada...it would have been nice if they had given us some warning...I've been without my phone for the entire day...I don't think i'll be able to do a backup before I reinstall either...what a pain...

I paid for all the other expensive stuff that Apple put out, so I will just steal Lion. Apple has plenty of money, they don't need any more.

That part is a lot of a dick move by apple. Fair enough suspending the account, but people on iOS5b this way are the people who are probably your most keen customers!

and some of these technically literate idiots started to rate apps one or two stars because they didn't work on iOS 5 beta

9to5 has posted an update:

http://9to5mac.com/2011/08/05/apple...-running-ios-5-going-after-udid-slot-sellers/

We did receive a tip from a person, though, who claims that their developer account was recently shut down due to their selling of UDID slots:

"My iOS developer account was disabled by Apple recently, last month, as it had appeared that I was breaking the agreement (iOS PLA) by distributing Apple confidential data. Granted, I was selling UDID slots."

In summary, we doubt that Apple is disabling “non-developer” devices running iOS. It does appear, though, that some sellers of UDID slots are being shut down.

It's the beta's expiring

My dad's phone did this yesterday, I had forgotten to update his phone to the newest (he had ios 5 beta 2), suddenly his phone wouldn't activate. Plugged it into itunes, and it very nicely told me that all i needed to do was update the phone to get it working again. Very easy fix. I think people who are reporting that they had beta's 4 & 5 are confused? I have beta 5 and it's working just fine, no interuption.

I think apple better keep working on sorting those bugs out, because iOS 5 was unsuable, I downgraded just 2 days after I used the beta, it was pretty much a horrible experience

same with Lion, god that thing is full of bugs... they should really get their asses back to the desk instead of hunting down fans that just want to try it out.. apple are a bunch of wankers sometimes

So did you just breach your NDA, or did you admit copyright infringement?

This has got to be the DUMBEST reasoning..

I disagree.

When I decided to become an iOS developer, it cost me around $3k. I did not own an Apple computer prior to 2008, when the SDK was released.

The minimum cost of entry is around $1300, since one can theoretically develop iPhone apps using the cheapest macbook air ($999) and test on an iPod ($200). But that's assuming there are no extra costs other than the laptop, test device, and the dev license.

If someone is willing to drop $1300 to become a developer, it's not THAT much harder to drop $2200.

A higher cost of entry would also result in less junk in the app store. I do agree that there's a price point, which would have a very negative effect. For example, I would not have started iOS development if the cost of entry was $10k.

I'm sorry gnagy and I do share your disgust with people abusing the developer account, but this logic is so unbelievably flawed and ignorantly stated that it had to be brought up again. Not everyone starts from scratch when they choose to dip into the application development. With that said, some of us ALREADY have Apple systems and have had them long before developing apps. For you to say $1000 dollars to start a dev. account is not a lot of money makes you sound like an extremely naive individual who has only been associated with other well off people. "Junk" is subjective to the individual who feels that way, and if there were not "junk" applications then other individuals could not learn from those "junk" mistakes to provide more efficient, and higher ranked apps of the same type. I'm glad you are an app developer, but keep in mind YOU do not represent the masses and not everyone has the same ridiculous price point limit as yourself.

It's people like YOU who need to stay away from the BETAs, because it's obvious that you have no idea what a BETA is.

This seems to be the week for a new trend: people getting all worked up over mere rumors which turn out to be baseless within a matter of hours :p

In fact, I’m starting to get all worked up over this trend! I’ll be embarrassed it turns out to not to be a trend at all, and Apple really is abandoning the mouse and going after the customers of shady developers selling private betas.
