Been to gym's recently that had the 30 pin connector so you could connect your "old" stuff to it and play music etc through the gym device. Last week when i saw one of those in a gym I was thinking I wonder how many people still have those old devices. I have one but don't use it anymore but I'm glad I have one of these connectors if I ever need it.

The Dock Connector was introduced with 3rd generation iPod in 2003 and reigned supreme for 9 years. The Lightning Connector will be 9 years old in 3 years, and I wouldn't rule out the connector being superseded by Wi-Fi 6 and faster wireless charging by then.
IIRC, the Lightning Connector was introduced with something like, "we've been using the Dock Connector for the past decade, and now we've designed a new connector to last for the next decade."

NO WAY!!!!!! Do you honesty think that a wireless HDMI would reliably transmit 4K 60fps / 120fps without buffering? No chance. Seriously, just try and stream 4K Dolby Vision wirelessly - it's not always a great experience!

Not with modern tech. But in ten years, I expect wires to be purely a legacy implementation. Wireless charging and data transfer is the future.

Sure. Microwave ovens do it all the time. Just don't get in the way of the signal. :)

...and I've been having charging problems ever since. Lightning is hopeless, as a physical standard.
On the contrary, Lightning is wonderful, as a physical standard. Compared to every other connector (until USB-C, which I believe Apple had some input in designing), you don't have to look at it before plugging it in to ensure it's the right way around, because the connector is reversible. It doesn't have a bunch of fiddly little pins to break, it's compact, and attaches securely, and the channels are software controlled to do whatever is needed for the currently connected device.

Will this still work plugging in my iPhone X to a iPOD cable adaptor for my car? My old iPod is definitely starting to go dead. I suppose I can always mail it to iresq to replace the battery if I can't use the iPhone with the adaptor.

Haven't seen anybody using a 30-pin cable these days except for myself. Always fun to ask if someone has a 30-pin cable and hear the countless responses of "what is that?!".

To be honest, when it was widely used and you asked for a 30 pin cable people would also say"what is that?!", it was never really an easy name.

And we march ever closer to apple removing the lighting port entirely in the quest for a “wireless future” that nobody even wants.

Maybe that's what you want but...the lesser wires the better! Wires are so 1999...;)

I bought one to use in one of our cars. Turns out it didn't work with the Apple case on the phone, so had to get the one with the short cable.

Wanted to get anoter but haven't actually seen one in a store for a while.

I like the Lighting connector standard but I can see myself reading on Macrumors.com about the USB-C (or USB-X) to Lighting adapter being discontinued by Apple in the next decade.

I have several OEM Lightning cables that do not work with either side up. Still have to turn them over, not sure why.

Cue the handful of people outraged about this because they still have the 30 pin docking alarm clock they bought in 2010.

Also cue the people who don’t realize that the adapters can still be purchased on MANY websites including Amazon.

I require one (cable adapter version) for my 2001 & 2002 Camaros USA Spec PA11-GM45 adapters which use 30-pin -- was the best factory stereo <-> iPhone integration at the time...

Yup, same here with my 2009 E90 335i, iPod integration in the iDrive only works with the BMW -> 30 pin cable, and only the Apple 30pin -> lightening cable is able to translate the iPhone commands to the old Apple iPod protocol...

What’s interesting, is I didn’t even know that they still manufactured the ‘lightning to 30 pin adapter’, so if Apple would have silently discontinued this without Macrumors addressing to the readers, would this really be that big of a deal? I doubt it for the majority who have moved on.

Uh oh, gonna need to head over to the Apple Store fast and stock up any on any remaining stock! I need these for a few places around my home and in cars!

Don't understand the "go total wireless" stuff! There hasn't been a simple and secure set of earphones that one could use while riding a bike AND one could answer a phone call without the things flying away!

The Apple ones are terrible and they look like a set of ear rings that someone put in the wrong place.
The Bose ones are huge..
The Dre have a cord that gets entangled in the wrong places...

None, will stay in place if you touch them to answer a phone call, none!
