Cue the handful of people outraged about this because they still have the 30 pin docking alarm clock they bought in 2010.
Alarm clocks should definitely last more than 8 years!

Nah - they are just killing anything associated with musicFirst they kill the headphone jack and now the lightning to 30 pin adaptor? What's next? The home button?
My collection of iPods cannot wait .....We're going WIRELESS, Apple fans!
Get yer AirPower Wireless Chargers now!

Plus, have you used wireless charging? I have and it’s a disaster and based on recent rumors, it’s one not even the great Apple can figure out how to fix.
I want wireless stuff. In the current implementations, it's useful for making devices impervious to water and dust. In the future, I want to stop having to plug my devices in. I just want them to work all the time.
Definitely like wireless communication. Nice not having ethernet cables everywhere.
Next thing that should go wireless is HDMI.
At least I am not the only one. I don't know if it's the port, or the cables, because it seems once a month or so, I wake up with my phone at 50% because the charger keeps going off and on again, continuously. I try a different cable and it seems to be fine, until it doesn't. And it just sits static on my night stand....and I've been having charging problems ever since. Lightning is hopeless, as a physical standard.
Haven't seen anybody using a 30-pin cable these days except for myself. Always fun to ask if someone has a 30-pin cable and hear the countless responses of "what is that?!".

Well, can't wait until they retire the lightning port in favor of usb-c.
Can you imagine using the same cable for android and iOS devices?
Wouldn’t Apple need a hardwired port available for troubleshooting?

Really nothing left from Steve's time...wait except for that Mac mini![]()
Not sure your point. The Apple Watch has a hardwired port.See: Apple Watch
The home button is already gone, dummy!

Not officially, and not yet anyway. Regardless, that can be accommodated on any Apple device in the same manner. Customers, don’t necessarily need access to a port for troubleshooting anymore. That said, I expect Apple won’t remove a user accessible physical port on devices which may need physical attachments for certain customer’s needs. A watch really doesn’t. That’s what I think the SmartConnector is for.No need for name calling, as his post was a sarcastic joke; in jest.
Not for use by the common end-user.
Wow. I still hate the lightning connectors 6 years later. They always break. It’s insane. I went through at least 20 cables
Apple has discontinued its $29 Lightning to 30-pin Adapter and has removed the accessory from its website as of this week.
The Lightning to 30-pin Adapter was first introduced in 2012 after Apple debuted the Lightning connector to replace to 30-pin connector that had been used in iPhones and iPads up to that point.

At the time of the transition, many people were using 30-pin cables for charging purposes for existing devices, prompting Apple to launch the adapter. The adapter was also useful for connecting existing 30-pin accessories to the new Lightning devices.
Lightning connectors are significantly thinner and more compact than 30-pin and the switch over to the more svelte Lightning connector allowed Apple to save space for other components in iPhones and iPads.
Apple's iPhone 5, fourth-generation iPad, and first-generation iPad mini were some of the first devices to use the new Lightning connector, which has been present in all mobile devices since 2012.
It's now been six years since Lightning was introduced and there is no longer a need for the Lightning to 30-pin Adapter as a limited number of those cables are still in use in 2018.

As far as USB-C goes, I'm neutral on it and at this point sort of numb to the fact that since I have older and newer gear too, I already have to carry around a collection of adapters and cables. What's one more set. Eventually something old breaks and that's the end of the need for that kind of connecting gear. These are all "first world" problems I can live with for sure. The guy out in SF that I buy gear bags from probably figures that too.![]()

The quality of the cables is a separate matter. Apple's own Lightning cables are thin and fragile. Do understand there are some really well-made and durable Lightning cables out there. Amazon has some which are MFi certified.
Are they the Waterfield gear bags? I love them! I have a couple myself. And they are Made in the USA. Expensive, sure. But peerless quality and build. And gorgeous REAL leather in some of their products.
The technology of the Lightning port is sound. It was actually "technologically superior" years ago compared to contemporary rival technology such as USB-A/B and Micro-USB. Unlike the USBs or Micro-USB, you did not need to figure out which side is up or down to plug in a Lightning. You just plugged it in. There was no up side or down side. You just plugged it in.
I don’t know man. 6 years with the same lighting cable. That’s some world record ****Nothing wrong with the cables. It’s the way people treat them.I have never broken one.I am still using a 6 year old lightning cable that came with my iPhone 5 in 2012.
