While I think the pricing is horribly high, where is going from a 32" to a 27", 6k to 5k viewed as a good thing for a brand new product?

The new premium display experience introduces innovative new capabilities and ProMotion for a lot less money than the previous model. It’s a great value for those who need the very best display technology from Apple.

Why sell you one 32" monitor when they can sell you two 27"! I jest, I can't understand why Apple seems to have such a dislike for large format monitors.

The 32" isn't even big compared to the variety of other (much cheaper) monitors on the market. I swear by my flat 34" ultrawide now, which is annoying because they all seem to be curved now, I'll never be able to replace it.
As someone with a large 49" UW... there is a downside.....
MacOS's menu bar.

There are plenty of times I wish that the menu bar could snap to the half or the third of the screen that i dock the window to.

But this is an Apple-centric issue, not large monitor bad issue. Its just Apple can never admit shortcomings and penalizes their users for trying to work in a flow that they don't like.

Honestly i think 27" is the sweet spot for size anyway - I don't know why people want 32" and bigger, or multi monitor setups - any time I have to start turning my head to see things my eyes can't just glance at, i'm out.
Different strokes for different folks. Really comes down to the type of work you do and how much info you need to see at once. 3 monitor setup is a must for me. I’ve considered adding a 4th, but that always feels like too much.

32” is my standard size. I never thought Apple’s pricing would be reasonable on any new 32” monitor so i’m not super disappointed. However, I’m sure people in the 1-2 monitor world would have liked a 32” option from Apple.

Not the stand!

The original XDR specs are still a monster. I would not trade my trusty Pro Display XDR 1:1 to this new one. Surely 120Hz would be nice, but not nice enough to give up 30% of pixels and area.

Nice to have speakers, mic, and camera built-in. But they do not matter if you already have better ones.

They’ll probably replace it later this year.

The most expensive aspect of the display, like the Mac Pro, was the ‘honeycomb’ milling process for the enclosure. I can’t see any other reason they would discontinue it.

This means that Apple no longer sells a 6K monitor.
I think we may not be done with displays…….. yet.

Unless they release it tomorrow, we still have Mac Pro and Mac Studios that need to come out with M5 chips. And most likely people will want even higher end display for most demanding pro work. I would not be surprised if Apple released the Studio Display XDR as mid range, and we get relaunched Pro Display XDR with 8K display during WWDC this year. (This is the “every other year” where Apple usually announce a hardwares during WWDC, so wouldn’t be surprised Apple was holding off on those until the developer event)

I know the pandemic was the real reason they switched to pre-recorded events, but I think the reaction to the stand reveal was the reason they never went back 😛
If I recall, the gasps and subsequent disappointment during the Apple Vision Pro price reveal also didn’t help.

There may be another 32" display, but it sounds like 6K 120Hz is not possible with Thunderbolt 5, so it will have to wait for newer technology.
What is the next connection technology after Thunderbolt 5 though?

(There's no word on any TB6 standard ever happening, mainly as TB was designed to go up to 100Gbps and TB5 already does 80/120Gbps.)

I understand why they introduced the new 27-inch XDR Display. What I don’t understand is why they haven’t updated the 32-inch XDR. Many people are looking for larger monitors!
Why not keep selling it and introduce the upgrade as soon as it’s ready with TB5.

Have you ever used Figma with 100+ screens on a design board? I do it daily and the extra screen space is much more productive. 27” is ok but there are all kinds of reasons to justify a 32”.
