Your opinion of the new monitors is definitely in the minority at this point. Very few if anyone else is defending these new monitors as innovative, not when they're using 9 or 10 year old display panel technology from LG

I understand why they introduced the new 27-inch XDR Display. What I don’t understand is why they haven’t updated the 32-inch XDR. Many people are looking for larger monitors!

Probably because they can't get a new model to go higher than 60Hz for bandwidth reasons, likely because the list of macs able to do 6K at > 60Hz would be rather slim.

Why not keep selling it and introduce the upgrade as soon as it’s ready with TB5.

I suspect TB5 won't have the bandwidth needed for 6k+120Hz+HDR+accessories. Might have to wait for TB6

Please -- it's been announced less than four hours. The innovation is bringing DICOM medical imaging and (apparently) true 100% Adobe RGB, which is critical for accurate printing, to a premium consumer display. The competing announced gaming displays with MiniLED (none of which are shipping) are not in the same class when it comes to color and contrast, as far as we know. They also appear to lack Thunderbolt 5. Until the LG UltraGear actually ships, not to mention the 180Hz Samsung Odyssey, it is hard to place this new XDR in context. I think we'll also see a wave of competing non-gaming displays, but none have been announced as of today. This now stands alone, for the moment, beyond 4K.

Tandem OLED won't be ready for this until next year at best. It is still struggling with assorted issues. A lot of progress has been made, and the end is in sight, but we're not there.

- The new 120Hz display is absolutely stunning and delivers breathtaking color accuracy & mind-blowing performance.
- The refined speaker system is incredible and delivers immersive, high-end studio level, engineering-grade, audio.
- The camera system has been re-engineered to capture truly sumptuous video while shooting footage, streaming or making video calls.
- It also now includes powerful Thunderbolt 5 connectivity, providing more downstream connectivity for high-speed accessories or daisy-chaining.
- I also believe they have upgraded the on-board A series chip to help power all this new innovation.

These are great leaps forward for Apple Studio Display. I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

Complaints about the Studio Display refresh (still 60Hz) are bleeding into the response to the new Studio Display XDR, which to my mind is a near-perfect refinement. There will be competition, but not from OLED, not this year. An LG UltraFine 5K with MiniLED, 165Hz, and Thunderbolt 5 is going to be over $2000, probably closer to $3000. Their UltraFine 6K with none of those features is $2000.

They were already using DSC on the XDR 32" 6k

6k 120hz 10bit w/ DSC and tons of headroom for accessories -- not an issue.

Still don't understand why Apple hasn't come up with a 32" ASD and charge the $3,200 price tag. I guess I'm either going for the Asus or LG 6k options.

Honestly i think 27" is the sweet spot for size anyway - I don't know why people want 32" and bigger, or multi monitor setups - any time I have to start turning my head to see things my eyes can't just glance at, i'm out.

because you can fit more on the screen. stuff just gets too small and crowded on a 27

I gave up a couple of weeks ago and got the Asus 32" 6K. Its not HDR but I don't really care about that (obviously). Really nice to have one large workspace though.

yeah, I am between the Asus or LG. The price for the Asus look great but the LG seems to be a bit better build and good looking. Not sure. I have not had the chance yet to see one at the store. I would get the Apple ASD XDR if they made it at 32" with the $3,200 price tag but....

Apple still has to engineer the complete finished product. You’ll always find Apple displays look better, sound better, and perform better than LG’s own branded versions. LG monitors don’t have A series computation, for example, which really is a huge technical advantage for Apple Studio monitors.

You might want to educate yourself before making those statements. In reverse order, [1] LG did not come out with a TB5 5K last year, only a 6K, $2000 without MiniLED or a refresh rate above 60Hz. [2] What basis do you have for assuming LG Display is the source of the panel and backlight in the Studio Display XDR? Let me answer that for you -- you don't have one. It's an assumption.

You probably also think LG Display made the Pro Display XDR panel and backlight (another assumption), but you'd probably be wrong, our best current guess is AUO, with very strong circumstantial evidence at this point.

This high end Mac / display matrix that used to be crystal clear under Steve is an insane mess under Tim... matched only by the iPad & accessories product matrix. Single product launch, zero updates and then just fading away without explanation and BETTER replacement

Yes LG may manufacture some/all of the display panels, but Apple Studio display panels are definitely built to Apple’s exacting product requirements and specifications. They are not comparable to the stuff LG sells itself direct to customer.

Samsung has announced a 6K 165Hz coming out this year. It's a gaming monitor, but surely others will follow suit.
