The new Apple is maximizing profit without worrying what consumers want. Aka: let's keep our product designs the same because people buy them. Also let's get rid of the headphone jack and promote it as a feature which benefits users. Granted I'll probably still buy their still but venting is fun. Their whole product portfolio is just so aged it's a joke but people keep buying everything..

Their official statement really leads me to believe they're just going to straight up not make a standalone display anymore, though.

exactly! if they had another one in development it would have made more sense to retire the old at the same time you introduce the new one. If you let go the old one and say go look somewhere else, it really feel like they're leaving this product category.

The same can be said about the old apple. If you are somehow happy with the old Apple, I am Not sure what you are complaining about.

It is a worrying trend. I hope Apple return to their roots one day. I don't much fancy the new direction Apple are taking, watches and new watch bands over powerful and functional computers. Just awful. Fingers crossed for the return of an expandable Mac Pro and professional grade monitor.

MBP and iMacs aren't powerful and functional computers? BS.

Are people really freaking out over a monitor? It's discontinued, big deal... buy a better and cheaper monitor, there's tons of them out there.

If you're going to "quit" Apple over something so insignificant, you probably should have done that years ago.

For sure on that. Just move on and stop the drama.

It makes about as much sense for Apple to make what is essentially a commodity display as it does for them to make a laser printer. Which they did for years until decent laser printers became a commodity.

"We're discontinuing the Apple Thunderbolt Display. It will be available through Apple.com, Apple's retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers while supplies last. There are a number of great third-party options available for Mac users," said an Apple spokesperson.

The end of the world outrage is hilarious here. It's a 5 year old monitor that was overpriced from the get go that about .01% of Mac users bought. It looked cute and was made nice. It's discontinuation means nothing in the grand scheme of Mac ownership.

Great display when it came out. It had a high resolution for the time, but the competition caught up and passed them by miles. Spec and price wise. I can't believe this thing still has the same price since it launched.

It's so weird they didn't introduce a new one years ago. I remember everyone thinking a new one would follow the newly designed iMacs so people could have two screens which look the same. Sadly, Apple seems to be leaving this market and it more focused on being 'cool' with their music service and 'stylish' watchbands.
