The Apple Pencil 1-design is embarrassing enough.

Fake or not (and a $50 Apple accessory certainly elicits a grin), I’m in the camp that believes the larger iPhone screens now completely warrant Pencil support.
Yeah, yeah… I know what Steve said about styli. Steve was a salesman. He said lots of things. But these devices are now Field Notes-sized and there have been countless times I’d love the ability to sketch or doodle or work through an idea with a Pencil on my 14 Pro.

I would definitely like to see Apple add Pencil support to the Pro line. Amongst other things, would make a tangible differentiator.

This would of been very stupid. Imagine having 3 models of stylus separated by $50 in price lol

As an artist, I’d love an iphone compatible apple pencil. I have the iPhone Pro Max, and it’d make a great portable digital sketchbook on the go. I currently use an 11” iPad Pro at home & an iPad mini while traveling. It’s a great setup… But being able to use an apple pencil on my iphone would come in handy for those times I am just walking around & want to sketch something. I currently use my finger for making quick sketches on my iphone. It works, but being able to use an apple pencil on my iphone would be 1,000x better.

Yeah this story is bogus. Jobs already explained stylus on a phone size device is pointless (Joke intended).

Tablet or iPad mini is another thing.

A larger trackpad on the MBP with Pencil support wouldn’t be a bad idea. Not perfect but not bad.
People get this wrong, even when posting the actual video.

Context is important. When the iPhone was launched Steve was explicitly saying, if you HAVE to use a stylus to use the product you’ve already failed.

A pencil as an *additional* input device on an iPhone is not ruled out by the logic he laid out. Given how monstrously large some iPhones are today I think tons of people could benefit of the option of a smaller pencil, though I wouldn’t be one as I’m a mini holdout.

This would be another nail in the entry level iPad's coffin; probably the iPad Air too.

I'd just get the biggest and best iPhone with the pencil, and use that together with the Macs, Watch, and AirPods, HomePods etc.

iPad Pros would be quite niche as I just don't see it being a laptop replacement.
That might work for you, but for those of us who use our phones and tablets differently, an iPhablet is no replacement for an iPad.

I just remember all the Palm Pilots I had and the pain in the back of my hand.

I like the piece about Apple considering the incredibly obvious step of making the Apple Pencil compatible with the iPhone, which is an excuse to print money on a high margin accessory while making iPhones even more useful as information gathering devices. I don't know about those other specifics.

On second thought, you might be right: education market would probably use it.

Nope. Not buying the fake rumor.

Are people who post this in every Apple Pencil thread being intentionally obtuse? Steve Jobs clearly was talking about styluses that were required to navigate the UI. An Apple Pencil is not required to navigate iPad OS and it wouldn’t be required to navigate iOS either.

Steve was trashing it in the context of being required to navigate the user interface. There’s a difference between needing a stylus to navigate because the touch targets are really tiny and using a stylus for drawing or note taking. I guess we’ll never know if Steve would have vetoed that coming to iPad (and possibly iPhone).

I would have loved a pencil for the iPhone. Especially when everything can be hooked up and you use it as a scratchpad for the main machine. Hopefully they release it later.
I love the pencil but have no "professional" need for it. Buying an iPad just for drawings would be a bit over the top. However a phone pencil to try things might pave the way.

They should just add support for Apple Pencil 2 in the Pro Series. But then its not possible to charge or stack it on the side.
I concur that Apple should just add support for Apple Pencil 2 in the Pro Series. An imperfect pencil charging might be achievable by reverse MagSafe at the MagSafe charging location on the iPhone Pro: place the iPhone face down and the pencil on the back.

Or just specify out a pencil charger. The third-party-device folks would have a dozen different chargers available in a month. My guess is that there are lots of folks like me who have been craving an Apple Pencil2 for the iPhone. My XL hands and fat fingers are just too large for ideal iPhone operation, especially the photo editing that I do a lot of.

I would buy this, but would prefer to simply be able to use an Apple Pencil 2. Once USB-C comes to iPhone, a USB-C to Apple Pencil 2 Magnetic charger would do the trick.

I would buy that. And I think other people would too.

It sounds proper sketchy but when you consider the mess that is the iPad 10 and the 1st gen pencil dongle it does kinda make sense.
